Run into that alot doing retrofit jobs in HVAC controls. Put controls on equipment that's just limping along and notify the customer of issues and potential issues. Alot of times they just ignore it. But hey it's not our decision to make , we just make sure we fullfil our contract obligation.

I am super impressed with the variety of parts in your service truck. I was doing service in the Cape Cod/Plymouth area and we were lucky if we had a fuse with us let alone a capacitor or relay. I imagine you keep it stocked well because you hate chasing parts as much as I did. Part of my job was to "invoice" the customer and after multiple times of chasing parts with a helper in the truck and charging time and travel, I told my boss that I was no longer handing 80 year old customers 800$ invoices for 75$ in parts and 20 minutes of labor when we should have the parts on hand. I was once sent to replace a gas valve on a 5 yo HW tank when all it was was a plugged burner orifice that the OTHER tech did not see, it could have been fixed in 15 minutes. IMO that was OUR fault and we had no business doing service, for those reasons I refused to write up any invoices again...

You can tell the difference between guys who do service for a living, and a arm chair “technician”. You can only make your recommendations, present the evidence to back up your quote and leave it up to the customer to decide. Period. It’s not your money till they sign on the dotted line and pay the deposit. Even then your not entitled to full payment, till the job is complete and the customer is satisfied.
Just try making a living demanding every customer do everything you think ought to be done. You’ll soon find your starving to death from lack of income.

There's a phonebook full of people to call if you just want something replaced for top dollar, very few people left now that can get something going "good enough" to keep the person going down the road. Not everyone is rich. I see it on the car mechanic side a lot, people with $2k cars for back and forth to work, get a leaky fuel line or a hole in the exhaust and the body shops only want to replace the ENTIRE exhaust or the entire fuel line instead of a patch. Can't even get someone to patch a tire on the clock anymore.

Whoever did the job must had a reason to downsize to 2.5 ton. Perhaps more dehumidification purpose than cooling... because cooling is not the main focus in your area where it's relatively cool temperature. If so, then probably same a lot on electric bill. Oversized or not and also depends if home air leakage is improved. Price of 4 ton and 2.5 ton is not a whole lot of difference... like a couple hundred dollars difference wholesale. Installation is same no matter what size condenser but customer cost is bigger of course. Guardian is York/JCI product.

All the hack HVAC installers out there don’t know Jack compared to Steverino and need to watch this channel and learn some things.

I liked qnd subscribed just because you said it's not my money I don't get to make the decisions and you had to do the best you could to make it work how it was. I know that's not easy and it just adds to your character to be that way. Wish I had you working on my moms unit a few years ago when they told her they couldn't get parts for it anynore.
