You had the probes plugged into the wrong sockets, and you didn't press the test button.

You did not press the test button. First rule of testing, test the tester to make sure it is working properly

insulation test for 500Mohm ?.... the black probe, you insert wrong terminal (G)...supposed (E) terminal. are you sure you do the right test?

On electrical motors and cabling you can safely check the double the running voltage as there is not enough current to cause any problems with the hardware. Just watch delicate electronics.

You don't seem to understand how to test the insulation of motor windings... you're really just touching random terminals together instead of measuring resistance to ground. And it's 1000, not 10,000 volts... there are plenty of industrial applications with motors above the more common 480v. *face palm* bad information like this gets all the beginners and apprentices out there in trouble at their jobs when they miss finding the problems.

This guy doesn't have a clue how to use a megger. He isn't even using the correct terminals on this unit.

You guys must be drunk. 10 thousand? Where does it say that? And how the hell are you testing? The leads are improperly connected and you didn't press the TEST button! You guys need to take a nap. Seriously.

Sorry Sir, but you have NO IDEA of how to use that tool properly. You are connected to the wrong terminals on the meter to test for insulation resistance. You SHOULD be connected to the L and E terminals. Terminals G and ACV are used for testing A/C Voltage only. You are also testing between winding leads instead of testing between each winding and the metal case (frame) of the motor. You will NEVER EVER get a correct reading on the insulation doing what you are doing in this video. I'm not being mean here... just pointing out that you don't know as much as you think you do. I would recommend that you learn how to use the tool correctly before attempting to show others how to do it. No matter how well the intentions, misinformation doesn't do anyone any good.

    Oh man...
Sorry for that but I must say that you are not using this meter properly.
It is a while now since you have published this video and you have 15K+ views, so it's weird to me that no one commented till now to tell you so.
First of all, please read instruction manual on how to use equipment before you use it. It may safe your life.
Next, it is not so smart to hold that probes and cables in your hands like that. Very high voltage appears there. 1KV is not a joke. It is smarter to use those crocodile clips if possible, and to keep your hands off a wires while doing a test.
And last one note, you are using wrong connection terminals for insulation test.
Terminals "L" and "E" are supposed to be used for insulation test, and not "L" and "G" as you are shoved on the video.
Please, be aware of all this. Someone may make wrong conclusions based on this video and get in trouble.
I wish you all the best.
