I’ve been listening to you for years and I never knew you did tutorials! God bless that you provide this content for free. It’s inspiring me to take producing more seriously. (Aka making more than an 8 bar loop and leaving the WIP to die LMAO) Lots of love from a long time fan
Exactly the sorta thing I needed, amazing as always Stazma!! Been creatimg live jungle performances using launchpad and a mixer and needed ways to make it more breakcore-y/interesting you're approach is exciting ✌
Outstanding work as always Julien!!! Thank you so much for this. It filled in quite a few gaps in my understanding. One question and one suggestion. Question, why quantisation of 1/4 for one and 1/8 for the other? Suggestion, as a follow up it would be great to see a video where you discuss how to set about structuring the live set you demonstrate here. For me it is a challenge to figure out how to set up a Live set that reflects the various lifecycle phases of a performance, and also how to make a set that is sophisticated like yours but not cluttered. It is a nightmare to have to page through a set when there is a lot going on in it and there must be a strategy or something for thinking about, designing and implementing a set that facilitates building up song structures and performance phases. Anyway, such are my thoughts. And again many thanks for your outstanding contributions to the community!!!
Triton was one of the two tracks that got me through lockdown with my mental health in tact. The other one was Dragonball Durag by Thundercat. That clip
Wow impressive job! small question: where are hidden de 16 additionals breakbeats? are they in a drum rack on your fifth track and you use the crossfade to go from track 4 to 5? Is that the trick ?
je n'étais jamais tombé sur cette vidéo , excellent :) ton workflow est vraiment cool ;) par contre le time stretch sur le general je n'ai pas capté la technique. en tout cas big up
this video convinced me to use a daw. i really tried my best to use only eurorack but in the end i find it too slow for this kind of music. techno-yes, more or less but for comfortably doing breaks you just don't have the capability to adjust cables this fast. or at least i don't have it. and it gets on your nerves fast. this constant thinking... can i ask you - since now i'm a newbie again- is there a unit that is capable of doing what the block does that you could recommend? thanks mate
@@Stazma thanks man. It looks like a good choice versus the push which seems a bit overloaded. Btw i looked up your album on tidal. Shreds! Anything new coming out soon?
I also moved from eurroack to a DAW (haven't posted anything on YT yet). Worlds apart, the hardware just holds you back when trying to make breakcore/jungle stuff. I got an ES-9 and might try to incorporate some modules into live performance, like the nebulae, but for now, Ableton for the win.
Dude! first of this is Im teaching myself music for about 2 years. What scale are you staying in? My brain goes blues every time but that sounds too happy. Your Midifighter as usb effects pedel... LOVE it! ( @10:00 pauses to just listen to you jam as I type lol) Love it bro.
@@Stazma like 1-7-1-5 or 1-12-1-7 Breakcore sounds like it exponentially goes up from the root like blues with more steps. lots of octive jumping. My talent is finger drumming. All I come out with is live finger drumming jungle. I having a hard time melodically with jungle/breakcore/drum and bass.
@@JoshuaFricke that’s what I thought but wasn’t sure hehehe. Most of the time I use the Locrian mode or either melodic or harmonic minor scale. I also like to play around with Japanese pentatonic, like Hirajochi, Kumoi and other like this. Then I just go by ear.
@@Stazma I try SOOOO hard NOT to play Japanese Pent lmao. I love it too much. Thanks for the tip. Im on the right path then. tySm! Keep up the Awesome all around content.
You can find it here: illformed.org/ It's in the "Free Windows VST Plugins" pack on the main page. Otherwise no I havn't found any proper alternative that I liked but I havn't looked much as I have this hehehe.
Do you have any advice for how I could achieve something like this on a broke teenager budget? My audio equipment currently consists of a midi keyboard, a DJ controller, and Reaper.
The only mandatory thing here is Ableton I think, unless there’s been someone designing a clip launching matrix for Reaper. You could use the dj controller to scroll through the scene and map drum breaks to the keys of you keyboard (Rotator, Electric Kettle and myself had similar setups in the past)
@@Stazmainteresting. The idea of doing this kind of live set up always scared me because of this reason. and do you use any bus/master compression inside the computer, if I may ask?

Speechless, perfect use of whatever you got under your hands, yet good sounding and unpredictable.
Thanks for this.
Thanks sir ;-)
You would think it would sound like mad chaos with all of the triggering of effects. Ironically, it sounds like musical genius.
Super inspiring! A really great selection of live effects and methodologies. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man, this was amazing, I've wanted to see a live setup this detailed for a long time
that Midi Fighter is crazy fun, appreciate the close-up here

Always a great time with stazma, thanks for this it has helped me alot to understand the live side of ableton.

P.S., I don't know where the name @BigBandFanMan comes from. I didn't set it. It's actually Len, the Irish guy!!! Have a great weekend!

One of the best
Those 165.40 and 171.30 BPM are intense
This seem to confuse people all the time but it’s just that I set my tempo via tap tempo most of the time hahaha

great material, thanks for the explanation, how Your breakskiller setup works:)
Thanks. Good video
I wish you could still get Livid Block controllers, the aesthetic and layout is so unique and cool.
Indeed! Quite sad they don't exist anymore. Try to find a second hand one, these are usualy pretty cheap now.
Dream festival line up for me would b you, cdr, kid606, shitmat, mochipet. You’re one of my faves

They are clips on a audio track and yes I use the corssfade to go from the main playing breakeat to the one controlled by the Midi Fighter.

Hey there! For the grid part you can use any version of the Launchpad, you just loose the faders and knobs but that can be done by another controller.

For the gros thing for sure, tho you might still need another pad type controler to handle what I’m doing with the Midi Fighter

I would like to know why you decided to choose a Livid block instead of a Akai APC instead .
The APC had too many controls I would have not used, the launchpad no knobs, the block was the perfect in between

that many effects and you never have cpu problems?
It's not that much in the end but yeah I'm mostly around 30% of usage of my CPU on a four years old laptop.

@@personnealienee Yes there's a parralel compressor on the master to tie everything together + a limiter to get a bit more output level if needed.
