As a Portuguese man, it's been disappointing to see Ronaldo's performance decline over the past two years. It's unfortunate that no one is willing to tell him that his time has passed. It's frustrating to hear people insist that he is still great and that he should play based on his past achievements, which I find quite sad to hear. For the last two years, it feels like we've been playing with only ten players on the field. While he is undeniably a legend, it's sad to see his reputation in Portugal suffer. Ronaldo you are hurting the team, THE TEAM, this is not an individual sport. You can't run, press, dribble, shoot, or head effectively anymore. Only your passing remains decent. Jota and Ramos deserve more opportunities, and I feel sorry for them. When Ronaldo is on the field, the team tries too hard to play to him, and it just doesn't work. Apart from that mistake against Slovenia, the only 40year old that still deserves to be on the starting 11 is Pepe.

It's a shame because this Portugal team is very good and certainly good enough to win this tournament. Had they chosen one of their excellent strikers instead of Ronaldo then we would have seen Portugal in the semi's rather than France - that I have no doubt about.

Starting Ronaldo every game was a poor decision. In truth, he isn't really good enough to be in the squad at all, it is all based on what he once was. When Felix missed the pen last night, Pepe was the first to step up and console him, Ronaldo (supposed captain) did not move an inch, didn't even look at him. As those Portuguese lads all stood arms around each other watching each penalty, Ronaldo is stood by himself, arms around nobody. When the final whistle went and France were celebrating, he just walked off on his own away from his team-mates. That is not a captain or a leader, that is a self centered brat who thinks only about himself & how things impact him as an individual.

Everyone knows Ronaldo is past his best. But all Ronaldo does is make himself available for Portugal, its up to the Manager to select him and to play him. Ronaldo will continue to play while the manager selects him, like who wouldn't do that. So this all falls on Roberto Martinez, he has no backbone and is a poor manager. Ronaldo will always try his best and he will never admit hes not good enough anymore, most players wouldn't admit that so its up to the manager to make the best decision for the team. Taking off Bruno was a poor decision too, Goncalo Ramos should of been brought on for Ronaldo or even started ahead of him but Martinez doesn't have the stines to make thos big calls. Martinez should be sacked for being so weak
Messi is a creative cerebral player, so even though he has aged he can still play through-balls between the lines and make those decisive passes. Messi also has a team that will run through walls for him. CR7 however, was a superb player who harnessed his athleticism and physical attributes. The issue is, as he gets older these characteristics wane rapidly and hence his timing and coordination is all off. It also means he cannot press, run-in behind, maintain shooting power and accuracy etc.
He should retire gracefully, like Ibrahimovic. Cristiano's tears are for himself and the personal realisation, which he is struggling to accept, that he is no longer what he once was. His narcissistic behaviour ruined Portugal's tournament this year.
Portugal would win every game till now in 90 minutes without Penaldo. He was awful, he destroys players around him (Fernandes, Dybala... even Benzema won the b d'or after he left an Real won everything).
