Starting a New Life in France as Americans | Moving to Greater Paris, New Jobs, Apartment Hunt

🤭 We’re back, and we have exciting news! You’ve probably been wondering what we’ve been up to for the past few weeks as Americans living in France, and in today’s video, all will be revealed! After we graduated from our master’s degrees at the Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne last fall, we upgraded our student residence permits to job seeker/new business creator residence permits and began looking for full-time jobs in France. We are so excited to say that we have both found work in France and are officially young professionals beginning our careers abroad! For this reason, we have also said goodbye to our beloved Reims and moved to a mid-size city in the southern suburbs of Paris called Palaiseau. Follow along as we pack up our things, move from Reims to Palaiseau, hang out in Paris, apartment hunt in Île-de-France, and more. Would you ever consider working abroad? Congratulations to both of you for having found jobs that suit you. I believe you'll miss the provincial atmosphere and relaxed life of Reims. Life in the Paris area is more stressful and demanding. In addition the prices for everything are also quite higher. Hope you soon find a convenient home to settle for some time in Palaiseau. Beware it is forecast a lot of strikes, specially in trains, RER, Metro and Buses as of next week, due to negociations in progress (or in lack of progress!) about changes to come in retirement plans.
Thank you so much! Funnily enough, since Palaiseau is quite a bit smaller than Reims, it feels like we moved farther away from Paris when, in reality, we moved closer! Reims will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thanks for the heads up about the strikes and for watching our video! 😁

So my wife is native of Paris, we are moving back to Paris in mid July or so it was dope to see a recent 2023 video of a couple living in France. We are also bringing my car and a whole house lol

Could you share more about finding / transitioning business careers of seasoned American professionals to the French market? The language is going to be a challenge. But what’s the experience of those not speaking French. Congrats on getting jobs!!!!
Hello. Thank you! Since we more or less started our careers on the French market, we don't have much insight on what transitioning to it is like. We would say that not speaking the language would be a detriment to anyone's chances of successfully undertaking any professional venture in this country. From what we have seen online, people who successfully transition to working in France after being further along in a career that they started in the States typically have highly in-demand, industry-specific skills, start their own business, or get transferred to the French office of their American company for a specific project/assignment.
