Yeah, never understood why they changed Jack (Lang's version mascot for BlackJack studios) to Mack... I want to say maybe its for language/localization purposes. Odd. I'm not sure what country BlackJack Studios even originated in. But if it's in China or Japan, it's most likely because they don't have a "J" equivalent in their alphabet systems. Some letters/sounds are foreign from one country to another, so often times when translating to and from any languages, most of the time it won't be 100% completely accurate in the meaning and/or inflection (emotion) of whatever you're translating, unless it's very simple and short phrases.
actually, Mack is male. The bio for the characters says "he," "him," and "his" multiple times. Which is even joked about in one of his random speech texts. "Age and gender? (nya~) I'm just a young and innocent little kitty in her prime~ (nya~) Just kidding! Stupid two-legged beast!" So yeah... the cat is male
