Love the ladybug addition to this vid. I have so far resisted adding Catesetinae to my collection, but my resolve is waning.... maybe I’ll have to start with them in 2020. Thanks for an informative and entertaining video!
Thanks Jodie. The ladybug is constantly on the move. Now it has deserted my catasetinae and is chilling on my ceiling lights. I don't think it understand what 'hibernation' means. Catasetinae are amazing and you should try at least one! Do you have any candidates in mind?
Every year a few ladybugs make their way into the house, I tried feeding them with honey from my town but they never survive, even the coldest window corner heats up from the sun. Here's hoping Frank and Fran make it through. Your catasetinae look well enough to me, I wonder about the forcing of dormancy myself, if the orchid is growing and clearly green, why not grow it until it's ready to stop. I forced mine, but I didn't like doing it.
I think they'll be healthy either way, whether you force dormancy or not. These are some sturdy plants. It's more about optimisation - what gives the very best results, the plumpest pseudobulbs? You could try not forcing them this year and see how they differ in the growing and flowering seasons. Yeah I'm worried that Frank and Fran won't make it either, but here's hoping. Maybe they can survive off of the happy sap from all the flower spikes?
kinda the same as I've been doing, however since I have only had time to repot 1, they definitely r not doing as well as yours someday, hopefully in the co.ing months we will b done cleaning up from the flood in March, and I will b able to devote more time to my orchids like they deserve
yes, had to take the house down to the studs to the ceiling, but yes, finally back in tbe house and changed up the floor plan, added a bunch of windows to one of the bedrooms, and built a space with a workbench, a sink with a RO unit, and shelving on wheels for my orchids😊 Now we r bringing boxes full of muddy stuff to wash and getting reorganized back in the house, moved back in a lil ovr a month ago. just ALOT of boxes, finding out what actually survived as we had alot of WONDERFUL friends and family help clear out the house, quite a bit of furniture and stuff hit the dumpsters😥 but we will get thru it, just a long tedious process.......cant wait to get back to my orchid on a regular basis and like I said, give them the attention they deserve 💜🐞
Wow sounds like a while renovation was required... I'm sorry that happened. Hopefully your home will never flood again! But it sounds like you made a great place for your orchids, and I'm sure the renovations will serve you well. I hope you'll settle in again soon!
Frank and Fran are looking for a dark place to hibernate (they clump together in the hundreds) and they don't eat during that time) they eat aphids, we call them Garden Wolves 😁

Heidi & Peter (ladybug name suggestion) 😃
I like Heidi! I have three ladybugs hanging around, so maybe one of them will be a Heidi :)

guess I should proofread, should b coming** months
You had flooding? It's everything alright? Sounds like quite a chore. And don't worry, despite often proof reading i still tend to get loads of typos.
