  • A 60MHz Function Generator for ~$100 USD? You bet! There are a few caveats, but they're minor for Hams and Makers alike!
    Jarrad VK3BL unboxes it, goes through the vast array of functions such as USB connectivity for custom waveform generation, and gives it a test with his Siglent SDS1102CML scope :)
    There is heaps more to cover, and we plan to feature this very unique and well priced tool in many future videos; at the end we give a sneak peak of one of its first uses!

    I have one of these FY6600.... And for a long time, i didn't use it for a frustrating reason: Everytime the frequency was fine tuned (even in millihertz level, the phase was reset to zero, resulting in large unacceptable phase shifts on each frequency step (this is even more obvious in Lissajous mode using CH1 and CH2 as sources)
    I found the solution !!!!
    The FY6600 must be in SLAVE mode !!!
    Procedure:
    1 - SYS
    2 - F3 (CONF)
    3 - F4 (M/S) and make sure generator is in SLAVE mode.
    And you're done !

    To return to sine waveform quickly from any other setting, just press the the rotary encoder twice. The first press gets you to arb1, and the next press will select sine wave. The rotary encoder switch has the same fuction as the "ok" button on the newer fy6800

    If you need an accurate frequency reference, WWV is always available, at least in North America - the carrier frequencies are derived from the master atomic clock for NIST, which means that they are _exactly_ 2.5MHz, 5MHz, 10MHz,15MHz, and 20MHz to within something like 1/1000 of a Hz.

    Various modulation types: AM, FM, PM, ASK, FSK and PSK modulations.
    - Sweep Function: It can sweep 4 properties of signals including frequency, amplitude, offset and duty cycle; It has Linear and Logarithm two sweep types; 0.01S~999.99S sweep time; Up, Down and roundtrip sweep directions.
    - VCO Function (Voltage Control Output): Can be achieved by an external input signal: voltage controlling frequency, voltage controlling amplitude, voltage controlling offset, voltage controlling duty cycle and PWM modulations.

      It is a very useful bit of kit for the money if you understand its limitations (mainly lack of calibration), 73, Jarrad VK3BL

    Nice video, I also have the FY6600 and ran into the same issues as you. I quickly determined I needed to output about 1 volt of signal and then attenuate it it to get a decent low level, (50uV) signal for aligning a Ham receiver. For the price you can't really beat them. One thing to caution you about, part of the mains voltage can be present on the grounds of the FY6600, (dodgy P/S filtering). I measure 50 volts to ground from the BNC connectors on mine. Don't blow up that nice scope! Joel, N6ALT

      Tell me more about the parts of the mains voltage. How to get rid of that ?

    You should use a 50 ohm termination on the scope to see the edges of the square wave. The fact that it was as clean as it was means it's back termination works well.
    The crap on the signal looks like switching power supply noise .

      Yeah, I was going to mention that's why you're not getting 5 volts.

    Much easier to use with the computer interface, though the version I downloaded needed a file added to it. When you try to use it, you'll get the name of the missing file which can be downloaded separately and added to the program to get it working.

    OK, people... Once again, about the signal amplitude: this generator is CALIBRATED, but it's important to understand 2 points:
    1. Output impedance of the generator is 50 Ohm; 2. THE AMPLITUDE SHOWN ON THE GENERATOR DISPLAY IS A Pk-Pk VOLTAGE ON THE HIGH-IMPEDANCE LOAD CONNECTED TO THE GENERATOR OUTPUT! So, if you need to test your transceiver that have an 50 Ohm antenna input, you must to perform simple manual calculations to set the correct amplitude value.

    I like having the controls of the scope knobs, switches etc., right where you can see them at a glance. Not having to go 4 levels into a menu is a pain.

  • @drtidrow
    @drtidrow 5 років тому

    All you needed to do was change the scope over to trigger off of channel 2 instead of channel 1... just push the trigger menu button and the channel setting is under soft button 2 (ie, second from top), IIRC. I've got a Siglent scope as well, very nice budget DSO... though I just picked up a second-hand Tek 2465 off of eBay for less than what I paid for the Siglent.
    I'll bet the overshoot is partly due to not setting the input for 50-ohm impedance.
    The FY6600 is a really nice signal generator for < $100, though I wish it would output a ramp voltage in sweep mode... if it can I haven't figured out how yet.

    Hello, this is a very good video. Can I ask for something? can you make a video that focuses on the pulse signal generated by the FY6600? I want to make a pulse signal with a frequency of 35khz and a break between pulses for 10ms.

    Will it produce a 10.7 MHZ sinusoidal sweep for doing fm radio calibrations.

      The sweep function seems to suck...it does weird voltage steps at the same time..

    I never I use the “auto” button in my scope as it’s faster and better to do it manually.

    • @RateMyRadio
      @RateMyRadio  5 років тому

      Auto works pretty well on modern (last 10 years) entry level DSOs when combined with a simple input waveform, but the truth is I had not used that scope for a few years and was just being lazy ;). That is what it is there for, after all :). 73, Jarrad VK3BL

    Amazing how many commercial products have been spawned by the growth of arduino, button and screen modules.

    I have had the fy6600 for more than a year (my firmware version is 2.8) and in general, after adding a proper iec power connector, and resolving issues with the rotary encoder and the front panel buttons, I find that for the price, it is a great value.
    However, the PC software seems to have been written by someone who was working for food. I don't think anyone would actually pay somebody to write an atrocious piece of crap like this so called waveform editor. It is completely unusable. The software is now at version six, and it still crashes completely, with a runtime 13 type mismatch error if I clear a numeric entry in a field . Even Commodore 64 software never had that problem! If the Chinese are supposedly so good at math, why is it that so much of their software (and this is just one of many examples) is such utter rubbish?

    • @RateMyRadio
      @RateMyRadio  5 років тому

      I would say its because they rely on non employees to write the software aka they bundle “open source” software, and such individuals probably don’t have access to the latest development tools or formal software engineering training. 73, Jarrad VK3BL
