Hi John, hope your bladder is better than the horses if you've only been up an hour. We don't want any international incidents. See it's raining again, cloudy but dry in South Devon
What a welcomed relief. Wonderful to see the Gatesmenator and Troopers who care to enforce the rules. I finally got to see the day you, Peter and Olivia braved the icy cold and did a live with Peter answering questions, Olivia's hands turning blue from holding the gimble and your cheeky giggle. So many questions answered as to how things work and why they work that way. It was truly a pleasure to watch. Thanks, John, for everything that you do to bring us Horse Guards and the Troopers every day. Love and Blessings from Missouri, USA.
Today is a wonderful day! The Troopers are being politely authoratative and the tourists are where they should be. This makes the horses so relaxed and happy!
You deserve all the praise in the world for what we, the observers from the outside, found to be the outstanding performance of your duties every time you were at Horse Guards. I'm not talking about this channel alone, but about other channels as well that were equally impressed by you. You have no idea how many people around the world you've delighted and inspired 🙂 I've personally been watching Horse Guards for almost a year now and you're the best gatesman I've ever seen...from both Regiments.Your approach now as a boxman, with the new rules, is equally outstanding and hopefully will set a very good example among your other colleagues, from both Regiments. I really wish you all the best!
*KUDOS TO THIS GUARD!!* I had lost all hope for these horses being allowed to relax in their own space! I'm not getting overly excited, as this may be the only guard to follow the rules, and to put his horses welfare above what the tourists demand and get. But it was a wonderful thing to see him and to hear him!! He's proof that you don't need to yell. Be firm and be heard! It's just that simple! Others should absolutely learn from his example! He's also a fine example of teaching others how to treat you! Demand respect! Thanks John!
Well having worked in support of law enforcement, the agency had a Duty Manual that clearly stated duties and responsibilities of the officers. So it is very odd to me that these soldiers do not or must not adhere to clearly defined definitions of their duties. They should all conduct themselves as defined,if not, training and disciplinary measures might be addressed.
@@ChristinaEwing-qm1gv My apologies for intruding on your reply to someone else's comment but it helps answer my own comment further up as it just never made any sense to me that some of the guards ignore the rules whilst others do not... I found your info very informative. 👍
John that was such a pleasure to watch👏. The Gatesmanator is a credit to his regiment, let’s hope his example is followed by his colleagues. Thanks for coping with the rain to give us a good Monday morning video 😊🇬🇧
I would like to give a very loud Thank You to the Administration of the various departments involved for listening to the public comments regarding the stress observed on the horses and troupers. They have responded to these videos in a very positive way. They have made a lot of changes over the last year to improve conditions and safety for everyone; troupers, horses and the tourists. An example of great, collaborative leadership.
I'm so happy to see the troopers calmly but firmly instructing tourist to stay out of the box. The horses are visibly calm. It seems that it's usually required with every new wave of tourists, then the rest around take note. If there's a crowd though, they just get this mob mentality, then it takes more assertiveness from the troopers. If only it can become uniform management by ALL the troopers.
I hope the Blues read some of these remarks when off this week as a lot of them let the side down this passed week by allowing the tourists into the box area to laugh & smirk at the army. Also hopefully be spoken to by the powers that introduced the new Rules to protect the horses & GET BACK RESPECT that was sorely needed ! The Life Guards here today are far superior certainly not acting like WIMPY KIDS. This is a Military Base NOT a DISNEY THEME PARK !!
I don't have the impression any of the guards are push-overs by any means. Some probably don't want to lose their voices hollering thru-out a shift when they can control their horses w/ less effort than dealing w/ some idiotic tourists.
I agree with you. I saw when 2 guards let the people still step over the line and they would look away like go ahead people do what you want. Yes it's a place for work and I don't know how hard it is sit still for one hour on a horse. But if I came from my state of Oregon in the USA I do respect people at work.
Hey John, phew, my blood pressures back to normal today! That's the way to do it gatesmanator, and calling the ladies ma'am - what a gent. Love your videos, and they're all the better with your narration and observations. Almost feel like I'm there!
There's a video from before they closed for work where the smiley lifeguard was telling people, calling them ma'am or sir not to touch the horse and to read the signs. He is great at his job protecting his horse.
see, the troopers don't have to yell at the tourists to get out of the box. this video needs to be shown to ALL the troopers as to how to do the job. The gatesmananator wish we all knew his name to thank him for his service. I was watching the podcast on an interview with Peter Ellis and he said that he had gotten in trouble when he was in the yard and a special needs young man with his father went to take a picture beside him. The father told his son not to get close but Peter moved closer to the boy for his picture and was reprimanded for moving. So, Peter Ellis gets reprimanded for doing a kind thing and yet the troopers on the horse who allow the tourists inside the white line box, touch the horse, grab the reins, crowd and feed and the answer you get from Household Cavalry(which I did get a response) is that the trooper is to endeavor, which means to "attempt to do something, to take action" as to not allow tourists inside the box. Bottom line is the horses are not to be touched by the responses I received. .When you say John that you don't feel that the troopers have been told to enforce the rules and I have been told otherwise by even the royal household.. Congrats to the troopers on duty in this video. Bravo. This is what I enjoy watching.
I saw that interview as well. Very good one too and great seeing Peter again. I too was upset he got in trouble for showing kindness to that special needs child. Agree, seems like double standards.
Hurray the lifeguards are back now hopefully I will be able to watch the video whilst the guards deal with the tourons as they did on the reopening day
It's so nice to have you back. I love the fact that you engage your viewers in the conversation and explain what is going on. Also, you try to include all the horses, ie. Police and the OBE Transport for the horses. I had to laugh at myself today when you pointed out the horse being transported because I could only see reflections of the buildings, then I saw the horses for a brief moment. It's amazing what can be seen in London. Thank you for being a wonderful tour guide via UA-cam. You're the best!
You are right John. I have health issues and I am housebound. You are my eyes to the world. I watch you every day. Love your sense of humor. I so enjoy watching London through your eyes.
I am from the United States. It breaks my heart to see the total disregard the tourists show the Amazing Life Guards/Troopers/Gatesmen. These are amazing men and women who serve their country. They deserve respect and honor.
So glad the Lifeguards are smashing it out of the park. Controlling the tourons keeping the box clear and looking magnificent as usual. The Blues and Royals will need to do some catching up, as the Lifeguards are showing how it should be done. Well done Lifeguards!
Well done The Gatesmanator. Respectfully telling the Tourons to leave the box. Hopefully his colleagues will continue to do what he’s accomplished. Thanks for another great video despite the horrid weather. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Good morning John: looking forward to seeing HCav today. Hopefully it will be a good day today. FYI , ordered King Ormonde from the museum yesterday, looking forward to receiving him. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
I tried ordering a Ormonde yesterday to be sent to the U.S. The shipping was going to cost about $40. When it got to the charge, it jumped to $71!!! THough I love and admire Ormonde, that charge was over the top. BE CAREFUL AND CHECK THE FINAL CHARGE BEFORE YOU CONFIRM THE ORDER.
See,how our Life Guards are doing their job.I really really want to watch when they are on duty.Way to go Life Guards. You have returned our love and trusting the Kings Horsemen.❤️❤️❤️❤️
THANK YOU for this lovely video, showing more than just rude tourists around the guards and horses. It was so NICE to actually hear from a person who personally knows and interacts with the guards, speaking about the areas, other guards, horses, and giving commentary on what it’s like for them all out there on the streets of London. REFRESHING! And interesting! LOVED IT!! THANK YOU!👍🏻❤️ P. S. I think they need to have boxes wherever ANY of the horses are stationed. If tourists are going to be that rude and dense, a VISUAL makes it much clearer! People never cease to amaze me with their need to push a boundary. Unbelievable. BOXES seem to help some!👍🏻
Haven't watched the video yet, so maybe this is redundant: Ormonde is in Windsor. In one of the livestreams chat is a woman, whose partner is a Guard at Horse Guards. She always knows a lot of stuff, it's interesting.
Seriously, the best trooper out of all the regiments. I used to be a Blues and Royal girl, but I am moving towards the Lifeguards as they seem to be much more reliable in their discipline. Fantastic video.
Glad you are back, John. Hope you had a wonderful vacation. It was an absolute pleasure watching your video today I loved how both Troopers enforced the rules with a kind of quiet but firm authority. As you said, maybe they should use this video as training for the other Troopers to see how it can be done. Well done, Troopers 👏 Watching from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
So glad to see the rules being enforced! It just goes to show if there is no rule of law what happens! I stopped watching for a bit bc it was so hard to see the horses being abused for some senseless persons photo or 15 seconds of fame! Rain here in MI USA also! Prayers for our beautiful southern states battered and destroyed by Helene!
Hello to all, John I really appreciate the first Lifeguards boxman today. They showed every guardsmen you can be firm and fair when politely asking tourists to follow the rules and stay out of the box.
Mary, I so agree with this! It shows that shouting is not needed (for the troopers that may not like to shout'), and a firm polite command seems to work 🙂
Thank you so very very much for your service trooper’s. If all of the troopers took control of the hour they spend doing their duty, the bad feelings of people watching wouldn’t exist. All most people want is that the horses and the trooper’s are able to do their job in peace, while the public get a chance to take their photos to remember their visit to London. 💂🏼♂️
Today is so much better. Hopefully, the troopers were informed on what to do and hopefully the B&R are being told the same thing for when they come back on duty.
@@Brandonholland-z9e You’re the Gatesmanator/Boxmanator. Great job, sir! This referred to the Blues horses who came off duty when you and Yeti came out. There’s another comment with the Life Guard horses 😊
Great trooper!! So refreshing to see a trooper not afraid to tell the tourists politely to shift. I’m hoping more will enforce it, the lines are there for a reason & I’ve noticed how the horses are more calm by not being so closely surrounded & all those hands patting them, that must be very irritating.
Since the last time I watched a video of the gates, it seems much calmer with the modifications that you have done for the security of the animals end guards. Seems much calmer and it seems like it is also helping to keep the crowds in control in the courtyard area.
Gatesmanator is a rock star. It was good to here the other box person also telling tourists to get behind the line. I wish Colin good look with his operation and hope and pray all goes well.
What a lovely calm day today. No shouting but quietly told to get out of the box, why can’t they all be like these two wonderful troopers! They have set the bench mark in my opinion. Saw a podcast of Peter E earlier. A lovely gracious young man and he is so missed by me and many others I didn’t realise that when he moved over for the young downs syndrome lad to get a better picture that the powers to be had him punished. Shame as he made that lads day. He mentioned your channel too and said what a good friend you are, well done to you.
The punishment came from whichever NCO/officer was on duty that day. However, Peter also did mention that he had been praised by those higher up the chain of command and I can remember, shortly after the video went viral, reading the statement from the Household Cavalry in which the CO said Peter's actions were prime examples of the values and behaviours espoused by the HC. That would have stuck in the craw of whichever officer/NCO punished him at the time.
Absolutely how this should be, you don’t have to shout but be firm, the blues this weekend were absolutely horrible glad to see them go! It was horrible how they represented the Blues! There was only one on Sunday that did his job!
Thank you for the information/knowledge you give to us in your videos. You make me feel like I am there visiting the Horse Guards with a tour guide. Appreciate you very much!
The gatesmanator should also be called the boxmanator! It's wonderful to see the guards and the horses being left alone. After watching for the last couple of days, this is refreshing and amazingly relaxing. I hope this keeps up!
The Trooper is doing a great job ensuring space for the horse and tourists are getting lovely pictures. Hope the museum is doing well since your demonstration, i have been purchasing items from them since i have seen your videos and would recommend others look them up, they have a good selection of different items.
Good morning John from California. I loved to see the guard lift himself off the horse’s back while he relived himself. I was taught to do that from my riding instructor. Also horses don’t like to get urine on their legs which happens when they pee on hard ground. Thank you so for your videos
If anyone is interested that horse pottied for 25 seconds!! Almost a half a minute! I backed it up and he went potty from the 3 to the 8 on the second hand on my clock!!!! He was holding it in! Poor fella. He was probably planning to go before his duty, but was rushed and did not get a chance, and just couldn’t hold it any longer. Hope he wasn’t embarrassed! I love to see the Trooper lean forward, so the horse can go easier and more comfortably. 😊. They love their horses.
Hello John. Great video's & Narration of the Horse Guard's. Also like to mention; that the 'boxed off' area at the front of the Guard's boss...thankfully seems to be working in keeping the horses protected, and the Guardsmen...Happy. You can actually notice the difference in the horse's and Guard's demeanour...(less Stress for all). Most Tourist's are abiding with the new Rules. At last... Great to look at now John. Regards anne
They aren't being consistent and a lot of them aren't enforcing the rules at all and allowing people to walk right up and just paw all over the horse. They need to talk to the guards and tell them they must enforce the rules and if they're too timid to do it then they are unsuitable to be a horse guard.
John , I like to say to you again you’re so polite to people when they talk to you when you make a conversation with them nice people were talking about now not idiots. You have a wonderful personality with them. I really like it. I enjoy it. My name is Carol and I’m living in California. I’m the lady but the COPD watches your channel all the time and today’s Monday so I hope you read this just to let you know you have a wonderful personality.
Great enforcing of the rules. It’s a lousy day here - pouring down & freezing so the heating is on (so up yours Starmer, you’re not making a pensioner popsickle out of me) and I’m sat knitting goodies for the local hospice to sell on their Christmas stall. But because the tourists were being kept in check and the horses weren’t being mauled I didn’t drop one stitch through getting riled up. Let’s hope that’s the start of the other troopers following suit.
Pensioner popsickle love it 😂😂😂. Maybe you should start knitting Cavalry Blacks for the Museum , or for people on here your local hospice could make a fortune 😀
Good morning John from 🇨🇦. We are not raining, but going from 30C yesterday to 15C today. Fluctuations in temps are ridiculous. Enjoy the rest of your day!🐴🐴❤
Sounds like where we are in Western Australia ...... 31C today but back down to 17C tomorrow as an expected cold front moves in from the Indian Ocean. It's spring so to be expected.
@heatherharvey3129 Two days ago, I had the A/C on. This morning I had to turn on the furnace. Only 0 C. Never had to do that before! Our west coast (Pacific Ocean side) gets warmer weather, but more rain. I was born in the wrong part of the country, but too expensive to move west.😕
@@starvingartist2824 Our son has lived in Vancouver BC since the start of 2013 so we know about the weather there. We've had a couple of summer visits to him where it was so much hotter and humid than we expected and they don't have A/C. We were there in May last year and the weather was perfect (apart from one slightly damp late afternoon at Ucluelet on Vancouver Island when the fog rolled in). However, there's a reason why they call it Raincouver. 😁
I visited London (and Great Brittain in general) numerous times back in the 60's and 70's . . . I enjoyed those visits immensely! I thought it was crowded back then, but today, the crowds are intolerable!

As you said, maybe they should use this video as training for the other Troopers to see how it can be done.
Well done, Troopers 👏
Watching from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
Would like to wish colin a speedy recovery.
Do you know the name of Colin’s channel?
Morning John what a pleasure to see the guards telling the tourist off… different than the weekend..I’m loving watching it today..😊
Well done that trooper for telling people to move out the box
The women and their poses are hysterical! They look so silly! 😂
It shows that shouting is not needed (for the troopers that may not like to shout'), and a firm polite command seems to work 🙂
I love the way the box man has to lean forward when horsey takes a leak! It always looks like it's the Trooper doing it.😂
Thank you so very very much for your service trooper’s.
Blues and Royals horses: Valiant on the left, Zambezi on the right.
No they was life guard horses not blues and royals I was on yeti and the female trooper was on tennison.
@@Brandonholland-z9e You’re the Gatesmanator/Boxmanator. Great job, sir! This referred to the Blues horses who came off duty when you and Yeti came out. There’s another comment with the Life Guard horses 😊
@geliconner9669 awww grand ah sorry had now saw the Life guard horses name post sorry about confusion.
@@Brandonholland-z9e No worries, Gatesmanator 👍🏻
So glad the guards are speaking up!
Thank you so much again John, for making me smile and keeping me company. Best wishes from Fremantle Western Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you John ,we here in Barbados 🇧🇧 would really welcome you
Barbados AKA 'heaven' 😍😍
Good afternoon John, nice to hear from you again.
Hi John, great to see the gatesmanater back, top trooper.a refreshing change to last week ❤
Looking forward to this…will watch this evening…thanks again for keeping us entertained 😊
Hi John, 12am in Queensland Australia Love your videos ❤ From Queensland
The gatesmanator should also be called the boxmanator! It's wonderful to see the guards and the horses being left alone. After watching for the last couple of days, this is refreshing and amazingly relaxing. I hope this keeps up!
I like that guard .He is so respectful to the tourists who go in the box telling them to get out. Well done to him.😊
The Trooper is doing a great job ensuring space for the horse and tourists are getting lovely pictures.
I thought you meant the Guard had peed himself 😂😂😂😂😂
@@christinewhitfeld7939 Hahaha 😆, the guard lifted himself up off the horses kidneys to make him ( the horse) more comfortable to urinate
Kudos to the Guard. Consistency is the key!
So happy to see the troopers in charge of the boundary lines!
Spectacular to see your horses cherished in London. Wish ours were in the states 👏
What a star the Gatesmanator is!!! 🥰🥰🥰Thanks John for braving the nasty weather to bring us wonderful content!!! ❤❤❤ xxxxxx
Thank God the Box and no touching rule has been introduced happy days 🎉❤
It is so good to see the horses more relaxed. They needed to do this years ago
Thanks for stepping out in the rain. Good to see the boundaries being respect ))
Nice to be home here in New Zealand and see my Grandson and his wife on your video John.💖
Afternoon John from wales 👋, curled up with a cuppa watching the video.
I hope the new rules are enforced. The guards all must be consistent.
They aren't being consistent and a lot of them aren't enforcing the rules at all and allowing people to walk right up and just paw all over the horse. They need to talk to the guards and tell them they must enforce the rules and if they're too timid to do it then they are unsuitable to be a horse guard.
@@NighDarkeSo agree!
Absolutely!! 💯
Love the Gatesmanator! So beautifully polite but firm. A role model for all the others?
Definitely a great improvement! Love to see that the guard and horse are not as exposed to the idiot tourists as before.
Even though the Guards are not strictly enforcing the box lines, the horses haven't been upset as much. No one is getting so close to them.
What a really gate trouper firm and polite, he is a keeper
Good morning John from 🇨🇦. We are not raining, but going from 30C yesterday to 15C today. Fluctuations in temps are ridiculous. Enjoy the rest of your day!🐴🐴❤
Bruh no offense but your country was TOO DAMN HOT when I was up there in Quebec 😂
@@TheEliteClown_ Lol! I'm not in Quebec, but it was unusually warm these past few days in central Canada for this time of year.
