  • This film was made in the 1960s for Durham Photographic Society by Tom Peel and Robin Wallace and was narrated by Fred Dawson, and has never been seen in public before now. It depicts Durham and its people, showing Silver Street as it was before the through road was built, the building of the through road along with Milburngate bridge and the Miners Gala. The start of the film does suffer from cine degradation but it soon disappears. The narration was added later but is slightly out of sync.You can hear the projector chugging away in the background.
    I hope you all enjoy these moving pictures of a City that has been radically changed over the years.
