The core of his message is that God's plan for your life and for the life of others will be different. For some, God's plan may involve having an intimate relationship, married with kids, so that God can use them to fulfill his will. For others, God's plan may involve being married with no kids, or just have a courting relationship, or simply remain single so that God may position his people in the right place that He may use them to do His work and fulfill His will. Too many of God's people get caught up in culture, forms, and traditions and position themselves in such a way that God can't use them the way he originally wanted to
I think he's just talking about the time we live in. Some of us can't find a suitable mate and will settle for something that does not lead us heaven bound. Others will get caught up with children that it will impair your ability to do God's calling in your life. If you don't understand that part then it's not your calling.
God didn't tell everybody to not have children. He gives express commandments to people he chooses for particular purposes. If you read the scripture in Jeremiah, GOD went on to tell Jeremiah the reasons that he should not take a wife or make children. Also some men appoint themselves eunuchs to give their full commitment to the work of GOD.
Paul even spoke on this and encouraged the people to not marry if they can avoid it because once you take a spouse your interest is turned toward him or her and God is moved down the line of priorities.
