Honestly, for the centenary I'd love to see them recycle some of the old idents. Some from "Balloon", some from "Rhythm and Movement" and some from "Circles".
yeh but they would have to remove the bbc 1 logo in the middle, corner and bottom middle, so they could put the bbc one logo
@@jtaplays280 Yeah that's a good point. Although I think logoless copies of the idents exist somewhere.
It's much better than Oneness Ident set since 2017, but this feels quite good.
Great seeing the series back! Personally quite like the alternative takes of the trampoline and Skateboard idents, I like seeing what each one looks like fully instead of for a few frames
If you listen closely in the trampoline ident you can hear the theme used in the Circle idents!
@@videonut1988 they were 2006-2016.
It’s weird how you could play them today and they’d still look modern
The skate park and rave idents reminded me of the skateboarders and festival idents respectively from the Rhythm and Movement collection from 2002-06
Nothing can beat the Balloon idents from 1997-2002 though. They were the idents I grew up with as a little kid and I still love them to this day - the balloon itself, the music, the locations, the camerawork, everything really
I like the night/day fliparound of the idents. It's the strongest part of the concept.
Camping and Park Bench are definitely the most memorable in this collection! Love the colour palate in both. Great review xxx
As these bed in I thoroughly expect to see special editions featuring BBC shows as they celebrate milestone episodes. For example, can you imagine a 60th Doctor Who one where the main sweep is the show now and then the lens reveals clips from the past?
When I saw one of the lens idents in the 100th episode, my 1st thought was that it was kinda of an homage to the LN globe from 1991.
Love this series but have to respectfully disagree on them swapping the scene around (eg bringing the disco ball forward and moving the trampoline back). I love it and it lets you get that look at the scenes which in other variants were there for half a sec.
My favourite ident of this set is definitely the Park Bench variant.
@@AdamMartyn When will the new Doctor Who viewing figures video be uploaded?!
I like these, very original and much better than those dreadful Oneness idents. I also feel that there's a reference to the old globe theme in them too with the main focus being circle shaped.
3:45 this is village underground - usually a music venue. can confirm that these were shot in the same place
"I wish we had a few more seconds looking at the different layers that the lens showcases"
I was lucky enough to find alternate versions of the idents where the Lens device has extended screentime, they're up on my channel
I remember a couple of years ago Oneness Idents were released full image logo and program announcement free on iPlayer proper.
I disagree with you on the lens and tieing everything together. Also, there are small details in each of them that show they actually put effort in (the same dog and walker in each of the bench idents, the birds coming across the screen at the same time in the sky ones - I think there's a few more.
The Lens ident is a fusion of BBC One Circle Ident and Globe Ident
And finally.. it's back.
Makes me think of the cycle of the moon. Nice to hear the film Braveheart geting a mention as I am William Wallace's ancestor.
Great video
I must admit, for a second, I thought, the “oneness“ was a parody! I do like these, I actually really like seeing the “other side“ of some of these idents as well. But that’s partly because I’m expecting there will be more of them overall. And then it’s kind of like how we had a daytime and nighttime 2 in the tank of liquid.
Also think it’s pretty interesting retroactively how old the new ITV a dancer also trying a similar kind of motif. Except they’re doing not so well! With less interesting visual design. These are absolutely gorgeous, every single one of them has brilliant, lighting and colour in plenty of extras and little props going on. I much prefer these.
I also think that the orb/circle idents from the mid-00s are themselves an homage to the globe, so I think there was a false distinction there. These are all part of the same thing.
Good review. Now I understand what was being portrayed here. It happens so fast I didn't get it was the same scene at various times. I agree it's done too fast. But looks pleasing if not exactly outstanding
I feel like every group of Idents has the "boring" one - either because sometimes a channel introduces a programme so serious you need a moodless Ident, or just the graphic designers running out of ideas. No idea which it is.
It's definitely because you need a neutral one. They got flack for using an ident that some thought was a bit too frivolous when one of the royals died, and so they had a 'serious news' one ever since.
Nice video Adam! BTW are you planning to make a short video discussing the widespread cuts to the BBC that have been announced today?
I think they're reminiscent of the BBC HD idents
I’m sure that market stall is eastenders just a different angle toward the station
I remember doing my first ident review about these idents about a month ago, and to be honest, I think they are a bit blank in my opinion. But I reviewed just one ident, sooo...
Thank god they are at least better than the stupid oneness trash
Do the boomerang 2000-2015 idents
Can you do Ident Review on SCTV(1997-2005)?
it's very similar to BBC2 to be honest
Can you do Starz for The Ident Review? (An American film channel) Can you review the idents from 2005 to 2016?
Episode 103 should totally be the ITV little be idents
Adam, can you please do the 2012 idents of Cartoon Network Too next please
Sure is a BBC HD looking boi.
Great I dents
Still bland-looking, but definitely much better than the Oneness idents of 2017! Oh, and happy centenary, BBC!
I’d say it’s not bland. It’s better, but being bland is a bit of a stretch. You need to put into account that most BBC One idents are in technicality “bland”. It’s their iconic status that make it alive. The globe is iconic, but it’s just spinning there, however we have immortalized it, saying that it IS BBC One. The most out of this world for this channel was the Rhythm & Movement idents, and people look back at them in dismay.
I feel like replacing (the very boring) oneness idents with these wasn’t the greatest idea. Because oneness was boring, going from those to these just feels samey - like nothing to keep an eye out for? With the circles ident set at least they always caught your eye whether it be aliens, hippos etc. The ‘Lens’ idents are just kinda.. meh?
Also @adam, do you think we’ll get specialist idents for the jubilee/centenary? I love when we have the odd one off one now and again!
this doesn't beat the circles logo
It's taken me a while to realise why these don't work for me. They're an attempt to fuse Circles and Oneness into a single thing, without understanding anything about what made Circles work (it's more than just "it's like a globe" or "people like circles", there are mathematical properties to a conic section that Circles maximised and Lens deliberately doesn't) or what people hated about Oneness (the fact that they're cheap, stiff and bland; Lens has a bit more dynamism - in the worst place - but I still find them bland and cheap - and they tried to make them cheaper!).
that was a nice little review, but on some of the critcisms i hate to disagree.
first of all, the "Sky (Night)" ident may seem weak or maybe even dull, but you have to take into consideration that this is an ident made specifically for serious programmes, of course it's gonna be dull. almost the same can be said for some sombre idents that you reviewed.
second, your "recycling" criticism: the Lens here is supposed to show the same location but in different times of day and nothing else. it also helps that each time of day shown also have their own variant. if the lens shows something else entirely, it loses its purpose IMHO.
third, the duration of the lens, i've seen a lot of people complain about that and i can understand why, but i think it's perfect the way it is, with the lens subtly disappearing in the background (kind of BBC4-ish if you ask me)
you also failed to bring out the fact that the Lens ident format was teased with the Christmas idents of last year
UA-cam membership makes me a staff member? With respect how dose that work I.pay you to work for you that's odd
I'm so glad oneness was discontinued
What you call the weakest ident, I would call subdued. I assume that's the one reserved for the news and such like.
This is BBC1 all over.
Coming up, I'll explain what I mean. But earlier we saw I said this is BBC1 all over. Repeats of the same clips over and over again, just like their programmes.
Later in the comment we'll see a park bench, but for now, let's go back to the main comment.
This is BBC1 all over. Repeats of the same clips over and over again, just like the programmes.
Coming up later is the park bench, but before that we're going to see why this is BBC1 all over.
etc. etc.
# park bench
The reason they’re tied together is because they are used at different times of day. So Skatepark would be used at day, Art Gallery in the evening and Rave at night
