How Sweet has been stuck in my head since release. I'm singing it none stop at work. It's crazy how much this group has taken over my life. They've jumped to #2 on my fav groups list (behind Twice) and Haerin is knocking on the door of being my #1 bias.
T-ara will always be my all time fave kpop group.. but newjeans brought me back after i stopped listening to kpop a couple of years ago and right now im the same newjeans have taken over my life too!
Yea New Jeans skyrocketed to the top of my list lol it’s kind of wild. Haerin is the best 💜

Its pure 'Miami Bass' so given your love of hip hop i knew you guys would like it :) Early 90s 'clubland' derivative of rnb and hip hop. They had small elements of it on supershy but it was so nuanced under the uk garage and drum and bass unless you were well knowledged in miami bass you wouldnt notice it. You probably remember 'ghost town DJs 'my boo' which this song reminded me of so much i went and watched it again after i watched this :P
Theres theories going round that this is actually about their situation with HYBE ... they are in a literal 'car crash' moment right now looking for help and a way out.. and all the lyrics are about 'leaving' and not wanting drama.. the toxic lover (hybe) dont come to my door :O ... hybe are also deleting comments and region blocking the official video on youtube which also adds substance to this theory. anyway on a more positive note i love how for the first time they have let them sing in their deeper tones especially minji and haerin... they have only done the light soft airy angelic vocals until now..
I love how much you know about all these sub genres lol it’s great to see as someone who really enjoys exploring different music genres.
As for the theories I haven’t looked into them but I’m not even surprised when it comes to the world of kpop. Everything has a reason to someone 😂😂
@@HallyuBlastEnt thanks :) i have been told this before but its just that weirdly newjeans focus on the few genres that were my favourite growing up... its why they brought me back to kpop i couldnt beleive there was a group focusing solely on my favourite music types its like they were made solely with me in mind lol.. i had no idea what citypop was for example when i heard bubblegum it just sounds like rnb to me.. but yeah everything else they do i am very versed in those :)

For me, Newjeans' top songs would be:
1. Ditto
2. How Sweet
3. Hurt
4. Hypeboy
5. OMG
6. Bubblegum
7. Attention
8. Cool With You/Get Up

It's insane how many unique genres they did with such a small catalog of songs, they don't stop evolving and they don't play safe...as a musician, and listener of many genres, as well as an artist---this makes me a big fan of them, they lean so much on creativity and they don't play safe even when there's a risk of some people who are just used to KPop not liking their songs (they can easily do the same songs over and over BUT they keep on reinventing themselves and trying new things.), they're so creative and unique from other groups that they even really sound KPop to me, they can actually exist outside of KPop.
They focus on 5 genres... all 90s sounds.. 90s rnb, late 90s mainstream uk garage, jersey club, drum and bass and miami bass.. some songs are a blend of 2 or more of these genres. uk garage, jersey club and drum and bass although different share enough similarities to be seamlessly blended together... the same can be said for 90s rnb and miami bass given that miami bass is literally a 'clubland' version of 90s rnb and hip hop. its why so many people say newjeans always sound different yet have the same 'newjeans' sound. its because for the most part the genres they use are different yet similiar.. its quite genius actually... (bubblegum having the 80s citypop sound is the only exception ) I am a huge fan of uk garage but i also loved miami bass when i was younger so how sweet is right up there for me but just behind their pure uk garage songs.. i'll just do my top 5

I also hear hints of Shibuya-Kei (a niche Japanese genre from 90s) in their songs with how they sample sounds especially with Ditto.
@@boredbeck that actually surprises me being a metalhead your top 10 newjeans songs is mostly the more slower 90s rnb songs of theirs :) and not the faster clubland songs that i much prefer :P
@@boredbeck ah yes i forgot to mention ditto and omg are exceptions as well as i feel they were a sort of transistion sound from the first 90s rnb EP to the clubland sound of get up EP.. for the most part they had 90s rnb feel but they were faster paced so yeah youre probably right about that but its not a genre i know anything about to be honest :P
@@jaynadiah5498 im mainly a metalhead and alternative but i do prefer slower metal genres like doom metal hehe...with alternative i love the dreamy kind like shoegaze and dreampop (and britpop) so it really fits with Newjeans in a way 😅

I really like it, the vibes are so 80s/90s coded and i think you can see well how they are slowly growing and maturing as artists, you can definitely see a grow in the music style and concept with Bublegum and How Sweet, i like that they are doing something similar to what Twice did in how they grew with their fans
Yea like I get why people don’t like when groups debut super young but on the flip side it’s awesome to see them grow as artists. Comparing Twice from when they debuted up till know, it’s so crazy to watch as a fan

so.. today.. i saw an 8 pack pepsi max for a great deal at £2.25... also an 8 pack of coke zero at £3.50 (still a good deal 1.50 off) .. I ended up getting the coke just for the coca cola mashita! newjeans markeing really working.. im old now(early 40s) and i dont even care about designer brands like i used to in my 20s/30s... but the newjeans retro nike trainers they wear makes me really wanna get another pair of nike air max 90s (my favourite trainer from 94) omg newjeans stop it lol.. still though.. no matter how hard they try.. they will never convince me to get an apple iphone or like mcdonalds

its not a coke ad in the sense zero was. zero was a song commisioned by coke, produced by coke, about coke and literally a 3 minute commercial made for coke... newjeans were just the featured singing artists. 'how sweet' is a song made for the newjeans EP and is the title song lol.. its produced by newjeans production team and its not about coke. It would still exist without coke sponsorship... unlike zero. they advertise coke in the video because its sponsored by coke..

its cool its all about what genres youre into.. personally i think their 1st EP is their weakest one.. which i know is sacreligious to most newjeans fans... i used to love rnb but its just not my vibe anymore these days.. so their 1st EP doesnt do much for me (not saying its bad i still enjoy the songs but none of them go on my playlists).. my fave songs of theirs are their clubland songs and miami bass being a club sound i love it... i think its one of their best...
To each his own of course, for me, these are two of best songs yet, i personally really like their new direction...theyre maturing as musicians and artists and theyre not playing it safe and trying out new things.
They might go back to their old sound in a few years, but i like that they are evolving and leaning on creativity instead of chasing what would surely get more views...theyre doing it the old school way
