I just saw Julie on CNN speaking about the Queen and what we will see next from the royal family. She was excellent! I was so surprised to see her! Thank you Julie! It was like seeing a friend!
Don't take this wrong but watching you two is like watching Laurel and Hardy. Or, Lucy and Ethyl. Very entertaining. Could you do a remake of the chocolate factory?
Luke, regardless of how skilled either one of you are in croquet - Julie is going to win, especially with that dress on. It was a pretty dress until she turned around - then it became 'real life' and I couldn't stop laughing. Love you both - you make me smile all the while educating us too. Hugs from the States (Michigan)
Though short, it was still entertaining to see Luke being so excited about croquet but Julie looked like she wanted to hit Luke with the mallet instead of the ball. 😂 I love Julie’s dress! Maybe Luke can also consider dressing up in vintage clothes for croquet.
It was nice to see Julie and Luke enjoying themselves outside playing a "simple" game. Always enjoy the humor between them! They are both fortunate to have found each other!
Oh Julie! This is the first time I have seen you approach something with bad grace! It was good to see how you managed to hold it together and get through it without coming to blows, and being so entertaining in the process. Well done both of you.
Ah - a genuine, period 'Jacques of London' croquet set! This firm have been making sets since the turn of the 18th into the 19th centuries. A true country house classic. The long, dry summer of 2022, while not good for extant lawns, has certainly revealed centuries-old planting schemes in many locations; a fascinating glimpse into times past. (The torrential rains seen since September, at Mappertion and elsewhere, have more than redressed the balance, as you know.)
I love this so much 😅 I am sorry, Julie! ❤ It takes my mind off the hurricane we’re expecting shortly here, in Florida. As well, the others who are going through it, now. I am still in process of rebuilding my home, inherited from grandparents and we’re living in an RV. I’ve seen all our efforts swept away more than once, and had to start from scratch. I just pray we make it through this, as well. Through this process, you’ve been an inspiration for me. I wish you all the best in your endeavors!
Those in hurricane prone area's shouldn't live near water. I lived in central Florida for six years, and south Florida for two. Never near water. Also, homes must be built to withstand hurricane's etc. Most Florida homes are not. That is actually the responsibility of the homeowners.
@@donnabaardsen5372There is a state of emergency declared for the entire state, not just the coastal areas (which comprise three sides; as Fl is a peninsula with an archipelago of the islands of Florida Keys, it’s a bit hard to escape the coasts). That’s the TL;DR I don’t know how many hurricanes you’ve been through, or where you’ve been privileged to live. I do know from experience that, in many cases it doesn’t matter how much you do to “hurricane proof”. Utilizing many different methods, designs and materials only increases resistance. A hurricane increases in strength, it’s unpredictable and, it will always be stronger. There’s no such thing as hurricane proof. I grew up on the coast. My father and mother and I and my brother have been active in hurricane relief for every single one, including for the hurricanes we were in, ourselves. As for my mom’s family raised directly on the coast, they couldn’t afford to have moved. They made their livelihood on the water, like some captains in my family still do. So are many people. There are many reasons people live here, and they don’t all have the choice to choose where they live. Some of my family have coquina and concrete homes “built to resist” hurricanes and do everything to a tee - but, it doesn’t matter. They must seek higher ground during flooding, they often end up in hotels, which might be even less safe than their homes, but are dry and higher ground, with power and clean running water. Hurricane resistance for a home is mainly to preserve possessions, and that’s the truth. The things you mentioned are good options, but they’re not accessible to everyone. They aren’t a fail-safe. Once a hurricane increases in strength, there’s nothing you can do to stop it.
My Step Grandfather was a Senator from the State of Missouri. He married my grandmother when I was twelve years old and the first time I met him on their farm, he taught me to play croquet. He was a master at this game and had even won several honors and championships. It was always a joy to play with him and to practice so that I could try and beat him. I never wore a dress as it was the 1960's and 70's but Julie is quite right that ladies did wear dresses to play in earlier centuries and in modern competition when I was younger. It was great fun to watch the two of you play croquet, after a long day of helping my husband fix the plumbing leaks in our own home (seems like everyone has leaks whether they live in a manor or a mid-century ranch. LOL!) I tried to reply on the Patreon account, but I don't see the video there. And no cheaters never prosper, but as this was definitely a "friendly" and not a "regulation" match, we shall give you both a pass. Too, cute! Be well, be loved, be happy - Diana
Love this addictive, uplifting channel. Subscribed awhile ago. I never comment, but I desperately Love the dress. It’s just marvelous & you wear it perfectly. Blessings to you from South Carolina, USA.
Time for a new Croquet set! This relic needs to be saved. This Wisconsinite loved croquet while growing up. As an adult I had a really fun group of friends. One decided we would set up differently at her house but have the same rules. We set it up going around her house. When we would send each others balls (we called it sending not croqueting your opponent) we would send them flying into neighbor's open garages. We laughed so hard that day. I noticed multiple differences between the way it's played. We had way more hoops. Double hoops by each stake. You had to get through both of those hoops and hit the stake to start and end the game. When sending the opponents balls, we put our foot firmly on our ball with the opponents ball up against ours, give it a hard smack to send it across the playing field (into neighbor's garage) leaving your ball where it was. If I remember correctly, we then got an extra two turns.
Ha, the banter between you two is delicious! Funny and loving and fun to watch. We played a lot of croquettes as kids in the US. I work in a toy shop and we still sell sets for all ages!
When I had a hobby of American Civilian Civil War reenacting, our little group would try to play croquet for spectators. It was interesting to play that in a very wide hoop skirt. Jah. Because history proclaimed that even Americans would play that lawn game but accidents could happen, one of our group leaders decided to create a history for a mourning project that his wife had passed because she was hit in the head with a croquet ball. lol. Very tongue in cheek scenario. Rather amusing. One of the tales of my then hobby.
My Midland, TX family took croquet seriously. Summers were full of matches. My Hart side played for blood. My Dad could take his turn and play off everyone’s balls and leave us in the dust! He taught my kids to play by never giving them a break! Our grandkids play.
Oh, you two. So funny! My cousin's and I played croquet for hour's when we were kid's. It's really a fun lawn game, haven't played it for year's though. Love from MI USA👍❤️🇺🇲🇬🇧
Cool, nice to see a traditional English game featured. What could be more approapriate, right? Plus, Julie and Luck work so hard, lovely to see them play a bit, albeit grudingly 😀
Luke is trying so hard to hep Julie to be a litle bit more relaxed in her life's duties and tries to be her meditation coach. Also he is desiring more time to just have fun with Julie and have some time off together enjoying themselves alone .. How nice is that!? Many men could care less. Julie is type A personality and Luke type B. Good mix, they can merge and be a good team! Then work can be done and health retained by having the time to enjoy and unind. Love, enjoy and stay happy!
Love you two…we played croquet a lot when I was young..it always got crazy..we would put our foot on ball to wack the other persons ball…probably made up rules alot😊. Enjoy your videos here in NJ🇺🇸
Love the dress 💖💖💖 the bits flying off the stick as Luke hammers it in.... hilarious 😂😂😂😂 I think you have explained that before... lollllllllllllllll golfer...the shade
Thing is, if I remember correctly. There was underclothing that kept the shape of a woman from being seen when she was in between the light and another person. Since it was considered indecent for a woman to expose herself like that. Luke, the game was started while women were expected to wear floorsweepers like that regency style dress. At the time when women were expected to wear such lengths. Only streetwalkers exposed their ankles.
Ha! I loved the persnickety game of Croquet!!😂 I actually needed this tutorial. My mom me a gave a rickety, old croquet set for my children to use. They will get a kick out of your tutorial!!😆👍🏻
If you are not cheating, you ain't trying. Then again I can remember one woman telling me normally men let women win at pool, and my response was, then why play. I was a few decades younger back then.
I haven't played croquet since I was in my late teens, early twenties. I love the game, although my game was much different than what y'all played. So I must have played the American version? === Okay, I did a search for: "American Croquet vs British Croquet," and I discovered that the game I played is called: "nine-wicket croquet." I used to practice for hours to get good at the game. We hit the ball both of the ways that you two did, but we also turned the mallet sideways before hitting the ball on a few occasions. Usually when hitting the ball a very short distance. Sometimes, instead of hitting the ball with the mallet, we would push the ball with the mallet. IIRC, it helped in keeping the ball in a straight pattern. It's been ages since I played, so my memory isn't all that good.

I also saw Julie on CNN for that. Agreed.
Awwww I havent seen Julie on anything. Wish I jad seen her.
@@lebmanrocks3949 I saw her as well. She did very well!
Love the undone zip at the back of the dress…. Let’s chuck a dress on & appease Luke for a minute 😂
Don't take this wrong but watching you two is like watching Laurel and Hardy. Or, Lucy and Ethyl. Very entertaining. Could you do a remake of the chocolate factory?
It's "Ethel," and yes, these two are fabulous together.
😂😅
I agree 100%. They are so much fun.
😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
Lol, no, they're Lucy and Ricky, if Lucy was in Cuba. And by Cuba I mean the UK. Is this too complicated a metaphor?

the expression on Julie's face re: croquet was priceless lol...great video :) I love how you add a bit of comedy in the clips, excellent !
Great sense of humor.

Lol Julie's face in this thumbnail is hilarious! 😆

Debbie here, Wa. 👩🌾. Wow! Wow! You can see the the markings from the old garden…wow,,spectacular!

The Music to this video is brilliant ! Goes with it perfectly ! As always you two are such a laugh !
You two are hilarious trying to win and beat each other.
Harpo Marx was an avid cutthroat croquet player. I highly recommend his autobiography "Harpo Speaks." It's very entertaining.

I grew up playing croquet, but haven't played in years. Love you guys! (And Julie you are right, cheaters are disqualified!)

This was so funny! Thanks for sharing!
I feel the same way about croquet too Julie. You’re such a good sport. I’d be bonking Luke on the head with the mallet 🤣

I think Julie is a crank. She’s always like this. Love your husband. He’s the reason you get to walk around being cranky.

It would be great if you could recreate the garden the way it was before. Also, I'm from America and we would play crocket at my grandmas house.
OMygoodness he is a sneaky lil sticker playing this game lol
You guys are so cute…. That was fun!
Any information on the make up? Thanks! Teresa

Julie won! Cheaters are definitely not allowed to win. But, that was super fun to watch regardless! ❤
If someone has the proper rules for Croquet could you please send them to these two thank you
Have you read all the Bridgestone books yet? There’s a famous crochet scene in them just like this.
..."croquet"...
Hey! Ever consider going to Wentworth Woodhouse?
Good grief! If my husband wanted to play a game with me, I would be so happy to play...
Love you guys! Get some rest USA Tennessee.God Save the King 👑❤️
What?
I have a question to ask you and I don’t mean to be rude or mean but why does the Viscount walk with a limp?
