    Nice project but making an inductor using loose wire around a steel bolt will be bad for bass quality because the wire is quite thin and the bolt will store magnetic energy as hysterisis and distorsion. I think your project deserve better in that departement. Good luck!

      @@Rk-hx9gt first step you have to know the speaker’s frequency response of each of you drivers found in the specifications, then on web you can find many speaker's crossover calculator to calculate values of caps and inductors needed.
      For high power you have just to by caps that supports high voltage ( 600-1000v) and inductors based on big wire gauge.
      In general the best way is to follow manufacturers recommendations.

    What is the reason you put a cap in series with the inductor coil for the subwoofer/midbass ? Is it to create and band pass effect ?
    If I want to only use the coil as a low pass filter then I don’t need the cap correct ?

    • @homemade_audio
      @homemade_audio  5 місяців тому

      Not on series!! It's on parallel after inductor that's on series!
      Your attention plz:
      - one inductor on series is a first order low pass filter.
      - one inductor on series plus cap on parallel after inductor is a second low pass filter.

      jbl 4311 has poor crossover: 1st order high pass for midrange & tweeter, and the boomer directly connected to terminal as a full range driver.
      with little components you have responce not linear but with a very clear sound!!!!

    • @homemade_audio

      Because it's not a mkp capacitor.
      Mkp are very expensive than electrolytic one.
      In crossover we put mkp in the place where it's on serie. And on parallel we put cheep electrolytic caps.
      You can also use non polar electrolytic on parallel no probleme.
      But the place where the sound go through the caps (in series) we must put high quality mkp caps to get good result.

    • @homemade_audio
      @homemade_audio  3 роки тому +3

      No problem. But for this drivers you'll need high power amp , then the crossover to support high power must have a strong components :
      - for capacitors keep the same value of uf but for voltage take 450v or more, for example: 600v 4.7uf instead of 50v 4.7uf.
      For coils: 1mm wire instead of 0.2mm wire, and keep the same number of spears.
      Another important things! Use drivers with the same sensitivity as possible to get flat response in yor speaker.
      Iif not add resistor to the driver who has high sensitivity to reduce his level of sound response.

    The values of the capacitors are a little strange. Going down to the level of 1 microfarad per tweeter is an exaggeration. 4 This is normal. And a woofer can get 36 to 50 microfarads. Anyway I loved your video. I have a bigger problem and it seems that my woofer is knocked out. I have already tried all the capacitor values. And nothing helps. Not interested in investing in new speakers right now

      the power accepted by the capacitor depends on their voltage, for this assembly 100v sufficient.

      4.7uf 100v MKP

    • @homemade_audio

      I used jbl le5 as midrange that can work without high cut, look at jbl 4311 crossover to understand.

    Cross over are used for bass improvement of depth sound. I never had luck using the same power from amp to sub woofer.
    Subs don't need a very good amp to drive bass.
    Mids and tweets need a very good clean amp to sound good. I have 3 amps in my cars to separate base, mids, tweets

      I agree with you for the situation you cited. but in my case, the technique that I use to simplify the understanding of crossover making requires me to work like that!!!
      it's like soldering a wire into a crossover board.
      we must understand the situation before making any false judgment!!!
