I ran against John Treacy in New England in 1977. He competed for Providence College, and was the New England Cross Country Champion multiple times running a 22:35 five mile time and winning. Bobby Hodge from Lowell Tech came in fifth place and ran a fantastic 23:12 five mile race. I watched these guys from the side lines,as I was injured, and they were unreal and raced like the fastest animal on the planet. These gifted and talented athletes deserve the Best!!!
I was one of the 30,000 who saw John retain his WCC title in Limerick in 1979. Fog was very thick that day. You could only see the runners as the passed in front of the viewing stand.
bitrot66 I saw it too at the age of 9, had travelled down with my local athletic club from Leitrim. I just remember how wet it was, and yes, like you we could only see the runners at the racecourse stand end. Of its time......

Wrong. Treacy entered the Los Angeles stadium in 2nd place and held it, he didn't overtake Spedding.
