Green Tara Bodhisattva is one of the most revered bodhisattvas in Tibetan Buddhism. She is considered the embodiment of compassion and protection, especially providing assistance to devotees in times of emergency. Green Tara is typically depicted in green, symbolizing her vitality and power of action. She is believed to dispel fear, obstacles, and dangers, bringing peace and happiness to her followers.
In Buddhist lore, Green Tara is described as being born from the tears of Avalokiteshvara (Guanyin) Bodhisattva. When Avalokiteshvara saw the suffering of sentient beings, he wept, and his tears transformed into Green Tara, who then helped alleviate the world's suffering. Thus, Green Tara is also seen as another manifestation of Avalokiteshvara.
Green Tara's mantra is "Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha." This mantra is believed to be immensely powerful, bringing protection, wisdom, and liberation. Each syllable has its unique significance:
- "Om": The primordial sound of the universe, representing the blessings of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
- "Tare": Green Tara's name, invoking her compassion.
- "Tuttare": Requesting the removal of all obstacles and fears.
- "Ture": Asking for swift assistance and protection.
- "Soha": Denotes the power and accomplishment of wishes.
Chanting Green Tara's mantra is thought to purify the mind, eliminate negative karma, and bring inner peace and strength. Many practitioners repeat this mantra several times daily as part of their regular practice.
Through these practices, followers of Green Tara believe they can receive her blessings and support, helping them navigate the challenges of life with grace and resilience.
