Had fun watching this. This deck was my very first I was given as a present. As you said in the video, the lack on EQs was the reason I changed. Went to a Numark Mixtrack, then a ddj-400 and now a Ddj-1000. As lacking as it is, it got me into DJing. Cool little device.
wow it's actually a "serious" brand, i expected some china bootleggery going on here
Numark has been in the game for a minute. They have fantastic controllers
Same
Who's a tiny controller?! :D It's adorable.
“Bass, mid, and low eq’s”
Beau Beltran shadow clone technique enters the room
That's a new kind of a mixer, I suppose.
Nothing beats the double bass boost
High eq lives matter
I came into the comment section to see if anyone else picked up on that 😂
Ravine. I'm glad you're back! I definitely find Unboxing DJ equipment is really satisfying and what's even better is when you did "WILL IT BLEND TRACKS". We are still here for you bro.
It depends on the application. These are extremely popular with wedding DJs who use them with portable PA systems for ceremony use.
Gene Neri makes sense since it’s definitely the most portable dj device i’ve ever seen.
I've borrowed DJ2GO v1 from a friend when i was starting, and used to EQ with mouse. It's really not good, so i remapped the cue and main level knobs to filters for each channel. Obviously, i had to set those by mouse, but those are knobs you aren't really using that often. I used Virtual DJ Pro to do that, and was able to pull of some pretty good mixes at the time. I had it for almost a year, so here's a quick run-down of pros and cons:
Pros:
+ VERY, VERY portable
+ Compatibility with Serato and VDJ
+ Dedicated navigation buttons
Cons:
- No EQ knobs, very bad
- Very soft and not good feeling jog wheel
- Short pitch sliders
- Volume knobs are.. knobs, instead of sliders
Overally, it may be good for like small house parties of 5 people, or just wanking around, but i'd much more gladly recommend something like MixTrack PRO or DDJ400. YES, it is more expensive (quite a lot for someone), but it is the closest you can get (especially with DDJ400) to real things, like Nexus 2000s.
Bottom line, i DON'T recommend this as your first controller. Or second. Well second maybe, but defo not first, or your "go-to" thing. Save some more of that b-day money and go get that MixTrack or Pioneer goodness.
1:36 *Why did I think it was something else...*
LOL HAHAHAHA
@@mysticaltwinsmusic3315 better yet,both!
You have a dirty mind that's why
u been in the club scene too long
There's phone apps that can outgun this lol.
Like Cross DJ. I do some stuff with that.
Facts
As someone who used Cross DJ app for 10 months, i can confirm. I switched to the DDJ 400 last month.
I actually bought one a while ago! I wish it had some EQs but it *has* forced me to get the hang of crossfader mixing. Plus it's pretty fun to keep on the coffee table to do a quick mix or just to see if a couple songs sound as good together as I thought they would.
Love my Numark Ns7III. Those beginners can do better.
man that scratch on that tiny controller!
@UgandanVenom 2000 no this isn't for beginners this is just shit
This thing reminds me a lot of the good old Hercules DJ Console MK1. It was just slightly bigger, and the platters were roughly the same size. They also weren't touch sensitive at all. Another thing the two have in common are the rotary level faders.
Glad to see you're back! If you could do more of these that'd be awesome!
I just picked this up a few weeks ago great lil controller specially for playing with mix ideas and for back up use
1:11 i moved my mouse over to click the X on that
but it was just a picture
i thought it was a ad
because we are all used to them
this is how out of hand youtube ads are becoming
diddlydankmemes adblock???
I’ve been watching your videos since the beginning ever since I was in middle school! I’m 23 now it’s crazy you haven’t aged at all
jazzy xo asian don’t raisin....until we turn 60. Then it’s 60 years overnight.
I was going to buy this for long travel hours. Planes, buses. Good size when you have a small space to work with
SCKORHAL on the go and for lite practice before a gig to drop some sick mixes before you master the mix or at the beach perfect size for beach jams
the akai amx is a much more fully featured in a similar form factor. But it is much more expensive
Forreal your original VDJ UA-cam video convinced me to start DJing after a 20-year break and I've been DJing like f'ing crazy ever since.
I will use this @ my next. Fisher Price pre school gig #🗑
I did a video where I took my DDJ-SB3 running Serato DJ Pro and also connected two CDJ-2000NSX2 in HID mode. I can use the SB3 crossfader to scratch on the CDJs. One of my followers did the same with the Numark. Just a tip if you want to ability to use “vinyl mode”.
Pri yon Joni this has “vinyl” mode but because it doesn’t have touch sensitive platters, you can’t scratch while playing as it can’t differentiate between a platter press and a pitch bend.
I connected it to djay and it just goes vinyl 100% of the time during play which poses another problem and that’s it doesn’t know when you let go of the platter so it keeps going even after you let you til it comes to a 100% stop.
DJ Ravine no kidding. That reminds me of the old Numark Axis CD players from the early 2000s.
Loooooooooooong while 😪 last time you were uploading a lot I was a DJ, now I’m a producer 😂😂
natural path...
Me too! ahaha
SAMEE ONG
DJLezzzRo not every dj turns into a producer
Mattrixx what makes you think your one? Cos you made your own logo
The hercules dj starlight kinda fixes the issues, for like 10£ more (Well got a bass knob and a normal fader cap...), actually looking at that for a on the fly controler.
Ahh man thanks, didn't know about that unit. I always carry a backup controller to my Pioneer controller & have been using the DJ2Go2 but as stated in the video it's not fun to mix on (I like vynil mode on my controllers & EQ control). My first ever controller years back was a Hercules and I thought they were still using their own software but I see it can work with Serato Lite. I'll just have to read up to see if it can also work with my Serato Pro as the DJ2Go2 can so that I don't have to use Serato Lite.
I had the number and just picked up the Starlight. Like others I use them for prepping sets and while traveling etc.
Numark doesn’t have vinyl mode or EQ but it does allow you to load songs without going back to the laptop.
I think in an absolute crisis I’d use the starlight to play a gig, but the numark is my go to for prep and marking up tracks
I've taken this out to DJ a few times as a gooof and it works well, I also own the Pioneer DDJ SX3 and Denon Prime 5000/1800 system. It's great to play on in airports or hotels.
That room in the background during the intro was containing of a background picture of him on his computer and a sign with ‘love your self’, man this guy is confident😂😂
I bought on amazon the "Hercules Dj control jog vision" . Try it ! :) Good controller for 190 €
Wow what a great video! Thought it would be the typical gag video on a low end product with no real information, but you really gave an informative review for everyone with pros and cons.
The lack of EQ was the first thing I noticed also. Somewhere a wedding DJ is using this with Behringer powered monitors and charging $2000/gig.
@DjRavine Where you been more Dj controller reviews are dope "FRESH" #Cheers
If anyones wondering, the song in the beginning is "Redshift - Laszlo".
This brings me back to my Behringer BCD2000, cheap piece of plastic but worked for me back then.
fr had no idea you were still around! Aussie represent
I pick one of these up for my daughters to use. Really fun and easy for them to use. And truth be told Im having fun with it also. It’s very easy to throw it in with my lap top and use it at work when I have a break. So in conclusion nice little unit very sturdy and well put to constructed.
I have one of these and I 100% agree with this not being a beginner controller. You cannot learn any real techniques on this and it is actually quite difficult to mix on. That being said, if you know what you're doing and want to take something out to the beach or something like that, this a laptop and a portable speaker and headphones all fit in a backpack and it is so rewarding being somewhere you never thought possible to mix a set and jamming out. Definitely a fun little piece of kit to have around but not the easiest or smoothest thing in the world to mix on.
Solid review bro! I’ve passed that mixer many times on amazon with pure skepticism and I’m glad I can finally put my curiosity to rest haha. Lastly, this vid was edited very well (helps that ur well spoken). I see countless reviews on yt where it’s chopped so much to eliminate dead space and brain farts. Keep it up!
Shout out Ravine! Been in the game long now and one of the OGs who got me into djing back in 2009! Keep posting your vids 👍🏻
Imagine how things can change. Last time is saw your video is still was a dj. Now i'm a lighting technician!!
Yooo, I remember listening to your happy hardcore mixes YEARS ago 😄
So funny here i am yelling at your video about using space for pads and not eqs and then you mentioned it i gave you a standing applause for that
Electric fox I see.
Happy Hardcore I know.
Darren Styles I hear.
-yoda
I personally would remap the trim level to the filter to be able to at least cut of some low end while mixing
now that is some 300 iq level shit
@@DjRavine Thank you XD
DJ Ravine Shit I edited a typo it unpinned the comment lol
I dot know what he’s talking about but it’s entertaining
Was going to get this as my first controller. Decided to get the DDJ-RB instead (the 400 wasn't out yet). Love the RB, just wish my music library wasn't garbage
Hahaha..
got it as well, using it as a 2 extra deck's (laptop) on my 2x CDJ800MK2 1x DJM600 (analog) so basically upgraded my self to VDJ for 56£ LOL... got capability of DDJ with out wasting me money... Umcyk Umcyk, Jungle is massive ;P
Vinyl mode works for scratching while playing when using this with VDJ8 but you have to keep moving if wheel stays still for too long song play resumes.
It is a fun unit. Once you get to it. I don’t need he sync I mapped it to do something else. I have issues mixing. Just have to change the fader to mix from scratch and it mix just fine
I started with a Mixtrack Pro 3 and for only 159e you have a really nice beginner controller with nice features, highly recommend this one !
Maybe remap the pitch faders to line faders and the knobs to be an eq. an then just use the sync
good call
The numark party mix is next it’s pretty much the same but it’s bigger
I use Mixxx program (which is great), so you could remap those buttons.
Thank you That was my complaint as a few friends have bought it. Some were tiered of even carrying big controllers. Many times a blend of songs is not a blend on volume alone. Mixing frequency is what will decipher the future of the blend and puts you in control when the emerging song will be in full affect.
As an owner of something much.. much.. bigger.. I'd probably only use something like this for quick and dirty prep on the road or in a hotel room, currently i use keyboard shortcuts for that.
I have actually played a house party with a mixer without channel eq knobs. there was a master eq.... It was kinda fun and the mixes had a more raw feeling. I was playing edm breaks though, so there is a little more wiggle room when it comes to clashing tracks I guess.
I’ve played a single gig on this controller and it was one of the most interesting gigs I’ve ever played. I rented out speakers to a friend for a house party with no intention to stay or DJ until my previous plans fell through. I asked if my friend also wanted a DJ to which she said sure and was prepared to go home and grab a controller until someone pulled out this little bad boy. The amount of times I accidentally touched one of those jogs is crazy. I am so thankful that drunk people don’t really care about whether it sounds right or not because a few people clearly believed I was performing some DJ trick to which I just smiled and nodded as if everything was going perfectly. I couldn’t get Rekordbox to work so I just used VDJ instead and I think I did more work in VDJ than I did on the controller itself. At a certain point, it was just a glorified crossfader and set of pitch knobs. I only use the tracks I’ve lined up properly anyway, so with sync there’s not a lot to match with good phrasing... I almost felt bad not being able to do anything really interesting on it because of the lack of EQ and looping that I’m used to from Pioneer setups, but the crowd didn’t know my pain so that’s as close to a job well done as I can get. Overall, I wouldn’t buy this unless I was in the same situation as you described. I could have given the same performance on a laptop, so why bother.
It's pretty much a toy or a veryyyyy basic backup.
I have a buddy that used it at a lounge. Some bars and lounges don’t have a license for entertainment meaning they can’t have a DJ. So laptops are acceptable and he plugs into their PA and he rocked it playing afrobeats and reggae. You don’t need was and effects, just match the beat and play.
@@DJOHHOriginalHipHop How can you run an amplification system and/or live recorded music without an entertainment license? Just bc you use a laptop over CDJs shouldn't make it any better, I don't think...
Ah I fucking died at the dedicated airhorn feature lmao
5:00 So true @Numark I would buy one just because as it is no eq. No Way Jose! 7:08 true and because you get the full version of rekordbox with the DDJ 400 This is the best for the beginner
Numark DJ2go. The best cheaper Controller, I love it
Honestly it is better to call it an external keyboard than a DJ controller, gosh its just too small! Your scratch though 4:15, sounded surprisingly good on it
Numark Party Mix also a great choice for beginners!
His hair grew between 6:59 and 7:05! Amazing :)
No it didn't...
Thanks for the au money conversion I appreciate it
how ironic. a DJ controller that costs less than the last record I bought. still, it looks fine for a beginner!
That's an expensive record then
What record cost you over 80 euros /dollars>>??? as a record collector i must know lol #cheers
@@djhavickofficial my copy of Logic - The Incredible true story (Limited edition picture disc) was more than 80
Humble flex
@@djhavickofficial tons of wax cost over 80
"This is one big knob"
Well....yeah. ;)
It also works great with DJpro by Algoriddim. With real scratching too. I keep this lil guy on the side connected to my backup laptop, just in case. And since DJay Pro lets you pull from spotify, I can grab a song that was requested if I don't have it. And of course it's fun just to take it on the go with a small speaker and get it in wherever you are.
I know a professional DJ that uses this thing as a backup controller or as the one he brings to small parties, like his kids' birthday parties.
I once had the original dj2go and it was even worst. the only good thing was it was a generic midi and could be programmed into tractor any way you could want to use it. ok.. ravine I don't know if you read any of these comments anymore but a lot of us people who started out mixing by watching your channel fell for some of the cheaper Numark equipment. it would be really helpful for anyone else joining in late if you reviewed a few of the cheaper boards out there aimed toward people trying to join the industry. if you made a few videos on how to DJ on a budget and how to get your first gigs I think it would help a large amount of the people who watch your channel. if this gets to you then thanks for reading.
5:45 that's true but only for vinyl dj's, digital dj's should have all tracks normalised and can even play a track that has been already mixed with other tracks. Digital djing can be cheated easily.
This product great for digital djs
"I'm DJ Ravine and welcome to Unbox Therapy" 😂
nice Akira inspired shirt
Woulda watched through the full vid, but I happen to have the exact same controller! nice content, keep it up!
Good to hear an Aussie accent! Loving the content.
I have the older model dj2go and i was having fun every time i used the controller. After 2 years non-stop usage for small events he died ....
You touring with master wobble again?
If you're a beginner dj get some 1200's and dig crates then mix vinyl !
Seriously used this to fire some clubs cuz their setup was smashed😂 Numark defs has your back if you use its 2go2 as a backup;)
I use on gigs for strip clubs.. Since i dont gotta mix songs.. Just fade.. Or talk and bring up the songs for dancers.. Easy simple and no need for expensive bulky gear.. Nice..
Yes I love Amazon and I am a prime member as well from djspazyb
But mixing has nothing to do with EQing, eq is just for frequency adjustment even though you did mention that ,but only specified that eq is needed to mix when its not! Back in my day,lol there was no eq on mixers you had to have a separate graphic eq on your rig if you wanted to control frequencies and that was mainly only connected to the output from your mix to your eq to your amp! Then came the first eq on a mixer in the mid 80s/90s where it was based of Low/High pass filters not a 3 band eq which came later in the mid 90s
Not uncommon to take out the bass on one track and the treble of the other and then use the filters to fade the bass in.
EQUALIZATION is mixing key & not lazy sync buttons!
So for me, the hot cues are much more important than the eq...
And i think, that this controller is more made for some fun, than for “real” djing...
But everybody has its own opinion...
I personally think that is great for on the go or if you are on a low budget
Quality song choice demonstrating mix 👍👍
Dammm man havent seen you since " happy hardcore mix " w those lv tables 😭 big change
Oh my god I didn't even realise it was the same guy hahaha, DJ Cotts and Ravine happy hardcore b2b! What a fucking video... 11 years old!
kinda nifty. i recently bought the Akai LPK25 mini keyboard and it is one of my main pieces of gear since im always moving around the laptop
You are the only UA-camr Dj that I always watch..... every video hehe
The new traktor s2 is the best bet for begunner djing i think. A bit more pricey but so much better.
I'm going sub to you bcz your my fav youtube!!
Ah a man with a spydie on his key chain. I'm glad you have good knife taste too
I might buy this...
I got it and use it on vdj8.. Its simple basic. Vut fun for smaller hands.. And not. Much muxing.. More like karaoke... And small gifs.. Or practice. On the go... Thus the dj2go2.. Lol.. Cheers..
to scratch i put my cross fader cap from my pmc 05 and put it on the 2 go, and it works great
Hi ,can you let us know what you think about the DENON PRIME series?thanks for sharing all the good advices you are giving!!!
oscar daniel that will be an upcoming video. My thoughts on the xdj-rx2 vs denon 4
Can he unbox more content?
Of course he can, but will he?
While I agree that it would have made sense to replace SOME of the hot cues with EQ knobs, I disagree about them being more essential, given the market. Beginners tend to not EQ things, then just straight up mix and work on best matching. Not saying that's good, but seems to be the tendency.
The most useful part of that DJ controller is the cord to power my GPS tablet.
I still have my numark dm2000 from 1999 😄 great entry level brand
This thing is more for mix prepare - hot cues prep etc.
I thought it would be a no-name controller, I know a few people that own this controller for playing around and would recommend it for some people. Too bad it didn't come with VDJ. Personally, I use a Denon MC7000 DJ Controller and LOVE my controller!
I have the dj2go v1 nice for a backup unit and for those new to DJing with a tight budget. However for the same price you paid I got the numark partymix (not the pro version that's just for iOS devices) and while it's still not perfect its a good basic unit
I wish had something like this when I started to work in this business
I think it's not made for begginers or touring DJs! Here in brazil ins VERY commom to have "party DJs" even for child partys. It's focused on this kind of use. they play all kind of songs, normally they attach this to a amp rack and just play songs one after other, they are not interested in mixing, just ~smoothly~ change songs. that's why have 4 cue pads, large sync and no EQ
This looks legit af. I like the loop buttons. Gonna sell my shitty ddjrb and get this
