My baby niece got this some time ago and she loved it. She played with it all the time, but whenever she took it outside it would rocket off into the sky and she had to kill it right away. We used to joke that it was a bird trying to fly away. Since then she has gotten to fly quads and this on thing sits there gathering dust. I wonder if I crammed a Hubsan FC in there if she would play with it again. lol
Great vid as always!
Thanks for the review. The thing looks really buggy for such an expensive toy. Glad I got that UDI four in one quad instead.
Hey Ryan. Thanks for the video. I just got one of these to play with myself and was watching your review to see some other people's experiences with it. I noticed pretty quick the issue with it occasionally not keeping altitude. I finally realized it was "randomly" gaining altitude when I was flying over the coffee table! So it wasn't that it was doing anything wrong, it just was all of a sudden "closer" to the ground so it would compensate. I also noticed it would go up and down when it was right on the edge of the table. In your video it appears as if it was going up and down when you were real close to the edge of the counter. Just thought I'd share since I too assumed something was wrong at first! Thanks again for sharing the video!
Corey Jones Yeah, but that is not the case here. I was not over the counter, and I've seen it happen numerous times without moving over any other higher surface.
Very nice review, I agree with you, I do not like phone controls, signal is too sketchy.
nice review, just got one, my first rc flyer, pretty happy
Your review really helped me to make my decision about buying one. I now have a parrot bebop
+JKOK Gaming You still likely paid way too much for the Bebop, but that is certainly more of a serious RC vehicle. :)
+Flyin' Ryan RC no i live in England and I bought it for £699.99 with sky controller which is about £70 less than it should cost
I really want to see the hovering technology used in Parrot devices in other quads as well. It would be awesome in small camera quadcopters like the Syma X5C, and definitely for those that like to drift around and not hold a constant altitude.
hey Ryan I just got one but I bought the cargo drone by parrot its just like this one except it has prop guards instead of wheels its a newer version I think anyways your right its more of a toy just to show off how stable it is you can't really do any smooth movements like circuits or bank turns, wish they had a real transmitter for this drone it would be so much better cause it is super stable it would be awesome if you just had better control
Hey ben . I've got a parrot mini-drone too . A cargo one like yours and to solve the control issue, I've bonded a nimbus steel bluetooth gamepad onto my device which completely replicates a remote control for an rc quad . Now my mini-drone is more manoeuvrable and i can fly it round my diy obstacle course . I also have tio disagree with flyin ryan on it being just a toy . Unlike most other quads you don't need to TRIM. Every second . Too me this is a excellent trainer for gps quads like the traxxas atom and the dji phantom
Nice and useful video, I don't see any use for this device, other than as a toy, as you mentioned.
I got the airborne cargo, day one. I like it and it suddenly lost power at 40% battery charge and broke one of the propeller.
Checking with parrot, whether they can honor the quality or not..!
You have the best review In my opinion it's not a tech toy it took me forever to learn how to fly I'm not against you it just my opinion your videos are amazing keep up the not good but amazing work your the best never forget that
Nice video! Don't know if I like not having a radio for it!
Great review of an interesting concept. As you say, more of a toy than a serious quad.
I can't wait to get one
Hi, one of the prophesied haters here ;)
I think your review is spot on in so much as you pointed out that it is a true drone, not really an RC quad. This, however, doesn't mean it's a "tech toy" (at least, any more than a quad is a toy) People WILL no doubt use them as toys, but Parrot has ensured they can contribute much more to the world.
Teaching kids to program ensures they have a bright future, and ensures that the engineers of the future will exist. Parrot includes a simple visual programming language, so that kids can program their drones. When I started programming, getting "hello world" to show up on the screen was the height of programming excitement. Imagine being 10 years old, and having a program you created autonomously steer a small drone around your house. How awesome, how inspiring. (more on Tickle here: blog.parrot.com/2015/03/23/learn-visual-programming-rolling-spider/ )
For those of us who are a little older, we can program them in node.js, and practice autonomous control on a very inexpensive package, before moving on to working on drones that can do search, inspect unsafe sights, and further help the world.
www.npmjs.com/package/parrot-rolling-spider
So, overall, your review from the point of a pilot, is spot on, but please do consider that they're not just a toy, but a great educational opportunity. =)
Perhaps educate yourself on the basics of grammar and then spelling.
Very well explained. Have 1 and find it hard to control
Thanks for the answer. I started a new channel and I've been looking for different ways to improve my videos. I haven't really done much yet but I hope to
All RC Everything A good camera and lighting can really make a world of difference. Those were the two things that really raised the level of quality in my videos. :)
Great review, Ryan! I really dont like this either, as I am sure flyaway would be traumatising. Its a shame to hear that you've been getting hate from people. For the people to take the time to reply to all your hard work and effort with insults is just sad. Forget them, and continue doing what you do! ;)
OllieTheCat2012 Amen brother! Really amazing how mean and rude some people are, but I just dish it back, ban 'em, and continue on doing what I do. :D
It's strange they did not include a camera. Such a stable micro quadcopter would be perfect for videos. It'll be great if these sensors and the downwards camera appear in cheaper quads with cameras and proper transmitters (with a button to turn them off). The stability, especially for that size, is very impressive. Thanks for another great review Ryan!
great review as per always it looks awesome & love the stickers :)
thank you for the information
Micro motor warehouse did some really
cheap mods and holy watch what he turns that quad into !!!
Great Review! They should bring a transmitter out for it! It would sell like hotcakes then! Lol
Frequent Flyer RC It would be interesting to see how this thing actually flies, if I could actually fly it. :)
Enjoyed watching this. But my favorite part has to be when Ryan (the owner of an entire UA-cam channel entirely made up of videos of him flying rc quadcopters) says ”it seems kind of pointless” in reference to filming the drone flying around.
That was priceless.
Either I don't understand what you are saying, or you completely missed the point.
Sorry Flyin' Ryan RC, no offense intended at all. I love your channel, I just found the verbiage funny. Since you film flights with rc copters a lot for UA-cam, but said it was pointless that they included that feature.
Tony McAfee Oh, I see what you're saying! Haha, yeah, I guess that is a bit hypocritical when it comes to the simple fact of recording your flights, but I was talking more about doing it from a phone while you also try to fly from that same phone.
Totally not meaning to insult you lol
But you're spot on, it seems like a silly feature.
While I have you, have you used the Blade 350 QX3 with the included AP gimble and camera?
Tony McAfee No, I haven't, but it looks awesome and I've heard good things about it!
Own several phantoms, Vortex, Solo, Iris etc.... Just got this for $60 at Cabbalas. First Parrot. I'm very impressed with the solid construction and sonar sensor. Amazing stability. Definitely worth $60 for sure. would rather have a normal TX tho.
I made the mistake of buying this. I should have bought a Syma for th same price. Good vid ;)
Saving flying Ryan (insert laugh track)
Could you do a parrot mambo review?? That would be awesome!
My favorite beginner's quad is the Blade nano qx, not this trash. I've got one and I've loved it thanks to your review. Keep up the awesome videos.
+TomBom292 Yeah, the Nano QX is still my favorite indoor flyer. So precise and nimble. :)
Ryan you should do another roundup and maybe a picture or something showing us your entire collection. That would be an entertaining video.
ThexAimless I don't have enough new quads yet for another round-up, and it would be impossible to get my entire collection in one pic (lol), and would take *hours* to take it all out and put it back away. :/ If you follow me on Facebook, I post pics of everything I get, so you can scroll through that album to get an idea of what all I have. :)
ThexAimless Nah, I don't have time for that many social networks. heh Just Facebook: facebook.com/FlyinRyanRc
THANK YOU!
It will be nice if we'll see that altitude sensing thingy on cheap chinese quads.
flippin'ryanRC
it may be slow on default, and the mode you were flying may be not really flying. But once you put it on max settings, and change it to joypad, it is a monster.
I also thought the wheels would just pop off as shown in their promo video. I just got it today.
Nallely Rodríguez Unfortunately this one lost bluetooth connection and soared to at least 1000 ft and then crashed back to the earth somewhere. I couldn't find it :(
By Faith Clothing mine won't listen to me and go out of control. When I put the wheels on it wobbled like crazy and wasn't balanced. Then I took it outside and it crashed into me when It took off, then went soaring to the sun till it crashed and bounced 100 feet in the air and broke. I returned it
I just got the blue one from target today. It was on sale for $39.99. They gotta increase flight time! Can't do much with only 7-8 minutes
Not bad for $40. 7-8min is actually quite long for a micro quad. You don't want to fly much longer than that because you will overheat the brushed motors and cause them to die. If you want longer flights, get additional batteries, but let the motors cool for a few minutes between flights.
Flyin' Ryan RC oh alright. So the bigger the drone, the longer the flight time? Makes sense
Flyin' Ryan RC so cool looks like fun
How much was this drone
Interested to find out so i can start saving up for one myself
cool
The camera on your phone is turned on probably to help you see the ground beneath so that you don't fall when you're too focused on maneuvering the drone. :)
I think in the video they forced the lach off by landing the drone and forcing it downwards to disconnect. Try that.
hm love how stable this hovers even with those wheels on. too bad you cant use a regular transmitter with sticks as an option.
oh my cx-10 finally came in. (took 38 days) it made it through about 4 flights then the little transmitter stopped binding! banggood has told me they will send a new one when they restock though :)
rayikaikin Lots of people saying that about the CX-10 not binding lately. No idea what's up with that.
The late 2014 CX-10 seem to be having issues with that. My family got several this past winter and of the 6 of them 2 are having binding issues. Fixed one by re-soldering the antennae, which was hanging, but the other is just a mystery to me!
om mine the transmitter light blinks but doesnt make any noise when you throttle up down to bind i popped it open to see if any soldering joints popped loose but didnt see anything
Hello there!
we are in 2024 and I bought one.
I'm French and I can't find how to start it. Is the battery sold empty?
Do you have to recharge a long time for the first time?
Thanks for the support! Nice vidéo!
I really don't enjoy the whole "using the phone as a transmitter" thing. I much prefer actual tactile controls....
I agree! If you didn't see it, check out my video where I fly this with the physical controller from the Swing. :) Still not a great flyer though, but at least you can use an actual controller now. :)
Not quite the same as flying my phantom but I do love the little thing
You can change the settings to normal controls like on most other drones with controllers, at least on the bebop drone
Sean Zhou Yeah, it has "normal controls", but it's still just virtual sticks on a screen, which is awkward to fly with.
Like the A.R 2.0 its basicly a flying computer😄 personaly I prefer normal rc qads, but the ar drone does what it is, its a drone. No big fan of the app thogh crashes happens too ofthen, and I whant to take of myself:p.
Ryan, try it with f180 props seems to fly better and looks cool. let's us I know. nice review again.
ok that parrot is flying smooth and level cos is a flat surface the floor is flat but if you flyit in a terrain that is not flat gets out of control and fly away that happen to me but still good to fly it around the house
Thanks for the rewiew. All the the other videos are not good as yours!!!!
My
favourite
The flying away thing isn't to do with the ultrasonic censor underneath it's the interference from you wifi because the drone uses wifi. So next time you fly it turn you wifi router off first
I think you should get a Dromida its the perfect rc quadcoppter no auto pilot you get to fly it all on your own. Oh and also there are so many choices of design I have a camera drone and a drone you can fly in the house is all rubber so it can bend so with all of that said I hope you will make the switch. Also I am not a sale representative I am a real owner.
Check out my channel. ;) I have reviewed Dromida quads, and dozens of others. ;)
I prefer a regular transmitter. I just got an inductrix.
review the Parrot jumping sumo, i have it and love it. Interested in what you might think of it.
Win D It's really not of any interest to me, and too expensive to get simply to review. :(
Flips work with the wheels off only...parrot drones are cool but overpriced for what they give...my faves are still the Cheerson CX10, Syma X11C, Syma X5C-1, Blade Chroma and DJI Phantom 3...you should review the Draganfly brand too..the cops use em for hostage situations and stuff
I like it
the first time i flew it , it did that weird sound and i was terrified 😂
Just bought a new Swat Airborne Night Drone for only $20. Didn't see a review specifically for it. Guessing that the Rolling Spider is pretty much the same.
Flyin' Ryan RC, great little flyers though. As long as you know the limitations of the Bluetooth connection.
I started putting together tutorials for this these little drones. Not reviews.
Very nice review as usual Ryan but I think this parrot is over priced it better to get other quadcopter where you can have more fun for less money :)
If you want to finish off the set of parrot minidrones, you should review the jumping sumo.
PvPBroYT I'm not wasting any more money on Parrot stuff, but I do have a Chinese knockoff of the Jumping Sumo on the way. :)
PvPBroYT www.tinydeal.com/sj80-4ch-24ghz-jumping-sumo-rc-car-bounce-car-robot-p-148774.html
ryan you have to buy the wheals that automatically pop off with the phone so look for them on amazon
Bran Man Uh, you sure about that? I don't see anywhere in the app where you would tell the wheels to pop off, or any mention of such wheels anywhere in the manual, etc. I don't see anything on the quad that would make that mechanically possible.
Can u put those seperate housing things that go around the propellers to protect it on that specific MiniDrone
Nice review Mr. Ryan 👍 I agree all your points ....tec toy useless ..No skills ..and expensive ...but thx to share your honest feedbacks ...thats Y I love your reviews ..keep going with your work ....thanks and cheers !!
You could of just said optical flow sensors for the camera but great video🙂
I try to explain things in a way that everyone understands, instead of using terms people may not know. :)
You can disconnect by tell the drone to go down well at least for me it works
Please do a unboxing of jumping sumo
yea I don't like this even if it had a controller. I don't have a cell lmao thanks for replying to m airhog question I figured the gyro was the reason I can fly the stalker. im getting to the point I can fly around the bedroom almost at top speed. it took a minute to get used to steering with my stub but im pretty good now
Thank you sooo much! I wanted a cheap outdoor drone and do not want to lose it. Can you suggest another cheap outdoor drone?
+Origami Dude If you are a beginner, this is my suggestion: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html
+Origami Dude honestly i started with a micro drone, the blade inductrix, was tons of fun ! then i got the latrax alias drone for going outside with and let me tell you, this thing is an absolute blast! the propellers are one of the strongest ive seen so far, you can also get add ons for it such as fpv cameras etc. today i just got a racing drone, the first person view walkera 250 advance! Id highly reccomend the latrax alias for learning and going outdoors with becasue theres a fast mode and expert mode aswell as a mode that can save you when your about to crash in expert mode
I had an AR Drone a couple of years ago. I was disappointed in Parrot after that waste of money and as another comment said, when you're flying with a phone, there's nothing to touch,,, just sliding your thumbs around on the screen.
Shall i buy one
Got one and the motor went out. Talked to parrot they then sent me a knew one that didn't work. Sent both of them back and got the latrax alias.
does the wheels have there own setting so that the drone wont just fly up?
My one last 3.1 seconds flight time. I think it's broken, but it's been like that since I bought it
FaB Cat this happened to one of my older drones, say for example it takes 90 minutes to charge the drone, charge it only till 60%, 50 minutes or so and then just leave the drone and the battery for 3 or 4 days, don't use it, and then on the 5th day flight it and empty the battery and charge the drone till 60% and continue the same thing for 3 days, and on the 4th day drain the battery and charge it till 100% and it should work again.
Hi! Even though you said it's not a "serious" flyer's quad, I have 5 good quads now, and this looks pretty cool. I have purchased one, but does it come with spare props? Also, as always, nice review!
About the fly away thing that happened to me in a gym hit the ceiling the a bar then the ground and hit like a rock. Motors broke I'm waiting for new motors to come in mail :/
Is there a way to extend the battery life
Nope. I despise quads that use phones to fly.. There's no tactile response, even if it has the full 4 channels of control on screen. Altitude hold is quite a nifty feature though.
Yeah give me the altitude hold and camera-assisted hover in a hubsan X4 and we got a deal
Hey can I know what app did you use to fly the drone?? and also I lost the stick of the wheels what can I do about that??? PLS REPLY!!
I bought one and it went out of range and unlike sitting in place like it's supposed to I actually flew away into the sky never to be seen again
Same thing happened to mine. Definitely one to fly indoors if you waste your money and get one of these.
Try to avoid flips with the wheels. Its a big risk
What should I do I downloaded the app free flight 3 my drone connected to the app thing but when I clicked on free flight It say update required
just bought the parrot minidrone rolling spider, Great drone but very disappointing because of how little time you get to play with a charge that takes so long not cool. only 6 minutes of flight with wheels and 8 minutes what's the fun in that returning it tomorrow....
That is pretty much the standard for quads this size. It's running 4 high-speed motors off of a tiny battery. Pretty sure you shouldn't return a product just because you don't like how long the battery lasts, but good luck. If you want long flight time, you need a larger quad, with gear-driven props, like the Syma X5C.
This is a serious question: do you think I can strap my phone onto the bottom of the drone and have it still fly? Would it be too heavy? Or is the engine strong enough?
muito bom....
EXCELENTE
WOuld you know if the cargo minidrone is better or is it the same.. Because alot and i mean alot of people are complaining about the battery life on the Rolling Spider. I should have waited because now the cargo drone is under 70 bucks now
Hey man if you see this do you know how to use it in 2023?
how long it takes to load the rolling Spider ?
I want a cheap quad to fly at the park , and I'm not worried if its easy to fly I just want power lol. Just a little something after my traxxas car dies. I just realized I was unsubbed for like 2 months!!! Man I'm happy to be back.
The_flying_Kaz Well, power and cheap don't really go hand-in-hand. For true power, you'd want a brushless quad, but brushless quads aren't cheap. The WLtoys V636 may be a decent medium… fastish and affordable. The Alias may be a bit faster, especially if you get Black Edition motors from Micro Motor Warehouse, but again, that's not cheap. :/
how long does it last
It looks like a DJI TELLO
Sound
I bought one today. It had no wheels in the package..
can u take review on syma x20
In my opinion I think it's pretty awesome! I've it for 1 year and it still works and I'm still having a great time with it.
O.P GAMING not for me, I just bought it today the battery lasted 15 min and when I put the wheels on the drone wobbled like crazy and wasn't balanced and wouldn't listen to me and go out of control when I didn't even touch the controls worthless junk
