I had just learned Two Joplin Rags and then a Waltz, Wall Street, Weeping Willow, and Bethena, then as my youtube was Scrolling down BachScholar's play list as I was Driving I hear this Rag. I made a quick look for the name and saw Northern Lights. I went to get the sheet music and was confused why such a great rag was not in Joplin's collected Rags book. The I saw Max Keenlyside. Its a great Rag, I must learn it. ❤
Can't tell you how many times I've listened to this & wondered why Max hasn't got millions of views & thousands of comments. I think he's as good as any of the supposed "greats" ever were & he's been doing it since about the age of 9 or 10 & even some of those early tunes sound so much like Joplin they leave you scratching your head in amazement! Wish we were hearing more from him in 2022!!
Such a beautiful piece and performance...really lives up to the great rags by Scott Joplin and Joseph Lamb. Thank you so much for making this available!!!
What a wonderful rag indeed. A true sense of feeling in this tune and the playing is outstanding. It surely warrants consideration in any movie depicting the era in which this music was originally popular.
Wow, Max, both the composition and performance are extremely impressive! The smile at the end is adorable. :D BTW, I like both the lighting and the camera angle. They accentuate (in a good way!) the intimate mood of the piece. :)
It was a pleasure and a honour to have known you personally, being able to appreciate your talent "live".Hope to repeat such wonderful experience in the future.
I discovered your channel recently and I love your performances and works. I love this soooo much. It is very warm and pretty sounding and want to learn this when I am better at piano. 👍
The lighting of your video is perfect! Like the sepia-colored photographs from the Ragtime period. Thank you for a beautiful composition, and fine heart-felt performance.
@tomclemans yes I agree with your comment, and also very much like your Blake's Grand March, I suffered with the full version on piano back in the early 1960's and although now can no longer read music, still play it sometimes on the organ, albiet have changed parts to my own liking, found Max through your postings, Thanks, Barry Willis, Brixham ,Devon, UK.
I like this rag a lot! It is one of the most wonderful rags I've ever heard. I would like to buy just this single piece... in Max Keenlyside's site I must buy the entire album to get this song. How can I buy just this piece? Keep composing good pieces like this one! You are very talented. :)
merci pour cette magnifique musique c'est vraiment super ce que tu compose je suis de Québec et je suis fière de voir un canadien composé de si belle musique ... Merci encore et continue c'est vraiment super
Very Nice! Im jelous..... It might just be me but I heard a touch of Scott's Fig Leaf Rag in there. But than again what rag isnt similar to a Joplin piece in some way..... Youre cute too ; )

The more I listen, the more I am astounded by how deep the song actually is. It's one of the better ones if you ask me.

Hi Max. I've listened to this piece many times, returned to it many times, and simply love it. You are a great artist!
A masterpiece. I'm touched listening to this wonderful ragtime.
Nothing the "old masters" wrote was better - at least in my ears. One of my "favorites" now. Thanks for sharing! :-)
It's so nice to hear a new original rag. Wonderful!
Max, this piece is just great! Thank you for such a delight.
BachScholar thinks this is one of the greatest expressive rags ever written and who could disagree with that !
This is just a gorgeous piece -- absolutely riveting!

Thank you Max - what a beautiful piece of music!
The third strain is very reminiscent of Scott Joplin's Solace!
Nice work. The lighting and camera angle actually help I think. Made me feel like I was sitting there by the piano listening.

The one guy who disliked never heard thought jaunty ragtime could ever sound so melancholy and thought today was opposite day...
