Gold and Silver have helped me save my money and create wealth. Having money in cash is easier to spend and loses value over time whereas gold hedges against inflation

I started stacking gold when I was 16. It was £380 an ounce. As an average over the past 20 years I have spent around £800 an ounce collectively over all coins. Today by selling below spot price to the bullion companies/Royal Mint I will have doubled my money on all coins. It's done well for no work whatsoever 👍
Edit: I still have a further 20 years to go before I sell. Forecast the prices in 20 years time, I wager a pension that it will be a lot more.

Don't bet on selling your gold in 20 years. It's hard to let it go.
BTW, I convert all my costs to the current year's prices using the CPI to determine how much my gold has really appreciated. A spreadsheet makes it fairly easy to do. My first gold was @ $40/ounce, $328 today.

@@meteoman7958I also use a spreadsheet to keep tabs of everything. The sheet i have created is quite in-depth and yields a lot of information. I will let the gold go too, as that will fund my latter years in the sunnier parts of the world 😎

I realised some time ago that no financial advisers suggest investing in gold and when asked they all recommend you invest in something else. They all talk about diversified portfolios but all of the diversity they recommend is investments that they either earn commission on or can manage for you, thus earning a management fee. They dont make money on you investing in physical gold. Funny that...

I did not get into stacking thinking I was going to make any money was just trying not to spend my money on other shiny things that aren't as convertible back into cash when needed. It becomes so addicting it does not take long to build a sizable stack.

Now I love gold and silver but I came from BTC. I'm a massive advocate of the Austrian school of economics and for a millennial learning about real money BTC is the place to start. I do understand why gold and silver bugs turn their noses up but I would never have fallen in love with gold and silver if it wasn't for Bitcoin, I really believe that Microstrategy and Michel Saylor Know what they are doing and will come out on top. I am however always looking to convert my gains to gold because I like shiny that I can hold in my hands. Each to their own, but it's possible to like the new and the old at the same time. It's just good to know fiat has always and will always collapse at some point and we are somewhat prepared for that eventuality.

I’ve come to the conclusion that you only need enough gold and silver for the tail end of your emergency fund (loss of income). For example, let’s say I want an emergency fund that will cover 12 month of expenses and let’s say that’s $4000 per month or $48,000 total. I would have $24k in cash and $24k in gold or some other split that you’re comfortable with. Anything beyond 12 months of expenses should be invested elsewhere.

Governments can print as much money as they want, but they ALL still keep gold as a backup should their currency become worthless. That's why it's always worthwhile 'saving' in gold rather than cash, because it's anti-inflationary and there will always be demand for it.

My favourite coin on the table has to be that 2oz Perth mint dragon. I could only afford 1/4oz when it came out but it’s still beautiful. I love it. Also got the 1oz Charles coronation coin. The most important thing about gold is not making money, it's about preventing loosing money in certain circumstances. The data over the past 50 years on global GDP, stock market indices, bond market returns and gold mathematically show the diversification properties of gold in a portfolio. When a classic 60/40 stock.bond portfolio fails to perform, gold usually performs well. Although the gold price itself is more volatile than stocks and bonds and gold can underperform for decades on end, adding gold to a portfolio significantly reduces drawdowns of a portfolio as a whole and, thus, increases the safe withdrawal rate. Even Ramin from Pensioncraft is slowly warming up to this idea.

Good advice. My iPhone 12 is a hand me down from my son who skips generations, recently buying an iPhone 15. He lives within his means, so he can pay cash up front and doesn’t need the trade in value of his old phone. I’m still recovering from gold’s sticker stock, so I’m focusing on quality gold numismatics whose price isn’t highly correlated to gold’s price. Like graded pre-33 gold in semi-key dates.

Gold should be a small part of any portfolio - stocks, real estate should be the majority… I only started adding gold later in life as I “de-risk” and see it as savings to augment retirement income… bitcoin has done far better for me over the years but I would never advise anyone to go “all in” on that either - diversification is key

Another entertaining & informative video. I fancy Mrs. Backyard might have her eyes on that bracelet, looks very nice. Also nice to see your 100 Soles Oro again, very Britanniaish. To me it's firstly a hobby collecting gold & silver coins. Still a good investment as I like to hold some of my wealth, nothing better than to touch & hold reality wealth. Other investments are fine as well of course. I've had gold for many decades, but have got the gold bug of late. I don't worry about insurance & alike, there are many places to do the old fashioned thing of burying coins etc. in Australia. I'm confident no one but me will be able to find it or dig it up.

Atha Energy, US $123 million market cap, losing US $1 million per month, valued at $1 a share on the NASDAQ in January is worth fifty cents a share today for a loss of 50%. Compared with Cameco, earning US $35 million per month, market cap US $22 billion and paying a small dividend, is even. I own neither, but if I was to increase the number of uranium companies in my portfolio from 18 to 19, the company being pumped on UA-cam wouldn’t be one of them. Just saying.

I would say that keeping gold under the mattress is better than cash over a longer term. Actual physical cash stored away will go down in value in the short term let alone the long term even if inflation is low.
If you had £1000 in £5 notes in 1956 and kept them until now they would still only be worth £1000 face value. Interestingly though a mint condition white £5 note is currently priced at £295 on a site i was looking at, so that would make that £1000 worth £59,000 if you could sell all 200 for £295.
An ounce of gold was around £35 an ounce in 1956 so thats around 28 and 1\2 ounces of gold for £1000 which if sold now would return around £52,600.

My argument is that since 1900, the overwhelming majority of currencies in the world have at least once and often several times become of Zero value. War, inflation, revolution etc, etc. (The USA and the UK being two of the very few exceptions. )
The associated stock markets, bonds etc, have usually crashed at the same time.
So to put ten or twenty percent of total savings in shiny coins, is, in my opinion simply common sense. It also does, over time keep pace with inflation

  • @seminumismaticguy8575

Gold is the art of spending without spending , my net worth is higher than my peers due to gold where they waste money on disposable items like cars , clothes TVs, that lost 50% of its value instantly I don't drop in value in fact it's nearly doubled in price in the 10 years I've owned it . Gold is not my only investment mind that would be stupid to put all your money in precious metals . There are also some unique advantages of gold like CGT exempt and slightly more questionable benefits too which I won't be discussing here .

  • @paulm3538
    @paulm3538 13 днів тому

Natural diamonds have fallen significantly in the last couple of years as the market has become flooded with very cheap synthetic Moissanite, which has a similar refractive index as diamond and is indistinguishable to all but experts such as GIA etc. There is also synthetic (lab grown) diamond which is also now flooding the smaller stone market. The only natural diamond cut stones holding their price are premium large stones (several carats) of excellent quality with genuine grading by someone like GIA. Price outlook for natural cut stones is flat at best…
There is also a rapidly expanding market for cheap, lab grown semi precious stones.
So gold & silver definitely better as a longer term store of value.
Numismatic auctions in the UK can be a good source of stacking gold & silver - this was my source of supply a few years ago. Bullion Gold was easy to buy at spot or slightly lower (including buyers premium). Bullion Silver even then, was very difficult to buy at spot with buyers premium - I purchased usually slightly over spot, but mostly foreign origin coins.
These days, I don’t live in the UK - happily retired some where warm & sunny with my stack at the ready to supplement my pension when & if fiat inflation dictates.
