Literally the majority of are here because of him. When he mentioned him it had a screenshot of his sub count which is 13K and well now it’s 45K “COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT”
The amount of violence involved in university life is ridiculous, especially the all-out anti-university riots (similarly as in Oxford). Have you heard of such animosity of the townsfolk towards the Charles University in Prague or anywhere else? I wonder if the situation was inherently different in Paris, Prague or Krakow? As the biggest cites in their respective realms and royal capitals, those municipalities presumably weren't getting nearly as dominated by the universities, and the authority supporting those institutions was at the site. Of course, we all know that Charles University was involved in a lot of unrest, but one indirectly cased by the ideas and teachings of some of its masters.
Haven't done any research in to it so I can't really say for certain but my gut feeling would be that early centuries of every medieval university had some sort of a town and gown problem.
You've got to bear in mind that, in those days and for long after, the average person was not getting well looked after and seeing people cosseted in regal-type surroundings will have annoyed many. And, yes, Oxford University will have dominated its city far more than at Paris. To the rioters, it will have been like rioting against the royalty and against injustice of opportunity itself. I'd imagine that some, perhaps most, of the rioters were actually clever people. Dim people don't tend to riot against learning. People are most angry about things close to their own interests. Even now, there'd be good cause for people from the north of England to protest about why more of them (us) aren't accepted to Oxbridge whilst international students paying larger fees get more of a pass.
Consider that, even though Cambridge University was itself only founded because of students fleeing Oxford University, Cambridge University wanted to selfishly close the door on university students setting up anywhere else in the UK.
Fair enough but if you're just waiting for a University to reopen you need a close place to wait it out so size doesn't matter that much. Plus it had a bunch of religious establishments at the time (Bradwell Abbey, Snelshall Priory) that could provide help while waiting.

LEARNT ABOUT CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY
2:06 Milton Keynes was only a small village back then.
Fair enough but if you're just waiting for a University to reopen you need a close place to wait it out so size doesn't matter that much.
Plus it had a bunch of religious establishments at the time (Bradwell Abbey, Snelshall Priory) that could provide help while waiting.
Fascinating video! Could you point to sources for further reading, especially on the hostilities between hostels and colleges?

University students being pretentious towards the locals. A story as old as the middle ages.
A lot of the students aren't even clever or eloquent enough to be pretentious now. If they're not pseudo-socialists, they're internationals.
great overlook about the early history of the university of Cambridge.
thanks and regards
