  • This amazing 40ft shipping container home in Northland, New Zealand is designed to be completely off the grid and has a huge solar system which provides enough power to even charge an electric car!
Annina and Pascal were inspired to build their shipping container home after traveling New Zealand and working on organic farms. They decided to purchase a block of land and put all they had learned into action, building a small, simple, off the grid home from a 40ft shipping container which would allow them to be self sufficient, and then planting stunning edible gardens around the home.
When it came to going off the grid, they wanted to ensure they had an abundance of power and so installed a huge 3.5kw array of solar panels which turned out to be enough to even charge an electric vehicle. Enjoy the full tour of this fantastic off the grid container home!

Now this is something which I've been waiting a while to see! It's so great to see a small home with a solar system capable of charging an electric vehicle. It must be a really great feeling to create independence, not only from the grid, but also petrol companies! I hope you all enjoy this weeks tour. With love, Bryce & Rasa!

It's not that difficult in subtropical areas. "In winter, maximum temperatures vary between 13 °C and 19 °C, while minima vary between 6 °C and 11 °C", and I suspect they also see sun for most of the winter. No real need for heating, and most importantly they don't need to store electricity to survive through the winter darkness. Just some reserve for a car charge and a rainy day (literally). Heaven on Earth, indeed.

This is by far the most simplest & beautiful tiny house tour.. That couple they just stole the show.. So sweet & soft spoken.. Grounded & down to earth.. My heart felt with immense happiness seeing those two dancing in their deck. And omg the "fruits & veggies garden", it was so satisfying to look at.
One of the biggest fan of your show.. Love from India♥️

Love all the solar panels, the kitchen/dining/work bench, the container for all the 'stuff', the ability to charge the car, the garden. All so great. Would love to know what they did to insulate the container.

The best advice I can give young people with aspiration to build this, is:
    1) get a regular job and SAVE save save. Really important for buying all the parts
    2) buy the land and have the construction like these guys made elsewhere
3)find an online form of income to prepare you since you will not need so much income after realizing you are self sufficient and not paying rent.
    4)Don't rush things, enjoy life.

This is really amazing!❤ Not only the home itself, but being totally of the grid is a kind of freedom I can only adore. I think, many people wish to be independent in that way, but aren't able to do it. They even can run a car by their solar system! That's fantastic.😳
And the design of the home is beautiful, too. I love the huge kitchen, all the windows, the wonderful garden and the surrounding itself.❤
