    None of these older generation that are commenting can understand the struggle of growing up Tibetan in a different country. It’s so hard! Maybe not as physically hard as growing up as a Tibetan in India. Tibetans overseas definitely experience a sense of privilege even they aren’t aware of, but they also experience a sense of not fully being accepted by neither the western world nor the Tibetan world.

I didn’t failed as a parent. We have an option to send kids to summer camp in U.S to do different activities or go on a vacation. But we choose to sent our daughter to TCV summer camp, we feel that important. So that mean my daughter doesn’t have summer break while rest her friends are enjoying their vacation.

    Some folks are saying we should be all sunshine and rainbows, but let's be real. We've lost our homeland, our people, and our way of life. It hurts.
    The criticism might sting, but it shows we care. It's a sign that we're still fighting. If we want to get back what's ours, we need to be tough. We need to learn, work hard, and stand up for ourselves. Let's show the world what we're made of. 🎉🎉🎉

    First of all, we tried our best even though if we are not talking in Tibetan there’s no point in shaming us for it. Shaming others will not benefit you or us. Just because we weren’t speaking in Tibetan doesn’t mean we aren’t Tibetan. Also our parents tried hard for us to learn fluently and understand Tibetan so if anything it’s not their fault. They are trying hard for us to learn Tibetan and more about our culture that’s the reason why they sent us to TCV summer camp.Us Tibetans who live abroad we do try though to speak Tibetan , but we also have to speak English everywhere, we have to speak it in school, getting around, basically every single day English is spoken most of the time . I’m not saying that learning Tibetan is unnecessary. Adding negative comments won’t do anything with your life or ours especially saying that we are failures and our parents are failures. Judging won’t help anyone. Instead of being negative be positive, support the future Tibetan community instead of trying to bring it down.

    Appreciate the parents of those three kids who spoke in Tibetan. Even when they were from Swiss, their parents have taught them well and made them to speak only Tibetan at home their first language being either French or German. They were also sent to private tuition to learn Tibetan. That’s one way to preserve our Tibetan culture even when you move abroad..and don’t even bring the topic of feeling excluded in their school.. we all face racism wherever we go. It’s really important to make them learn their own mother tongue. And one can do such by making a rule to speak only Tibetan at home. A small act, that’s all it takes.

    • @ZeykiNak
      @ZeykiNak 23 дні тому +1

      In Swiss countries as a Tibetan, isn’t the main language spoken with most parents from birth Tibetan? Obviously, that’s why the Swiss kids were able to speak Tibetan. But in a first world country in America where 90% of the population speaks English wouldn’t our parents have to adapt to? And as everyone knows the only way to learn a language is to speak it. So it is not a choice it is a need. Unlike you guys in the comment section who have probably been living in India for sometime as a refugee

    • @andy_k5153

      @@ZeykiNak
      Even if the 90% of population in US speaks English that doesn’t mean that you should abondon their mother tongue at home. In an English-speaking environment the kids will naturally become more fluent in English through school, institutions, friends and the media too! But if you don’t initiate such practice of letting them speak Tibetan at home then it could easily be lost in just one generation, which is what the Chinese Communist Party want. They are planning to erase the Tibetan language and culture completely and have even changed the name of our country Tibet to Xizang. Hence it is crucial to teach them Tibetan at a young age no matter if you have moved to the “first world country” or the last.
      And I’m not pin-pointing over them having to speak perfect Tibetan, even if it was broken that’s still one step ahead. But the kids here from US barely spoke in Tibetan.. I know some of the kids here from Swiss and they generally speaks fluent French but still manage to keep Tibetan as a part of their lives, even if it’s not perfect. It’s all about the effort of their parents in preserving our Tibetan culture through such practices while allowing them to adapt to the French language dominant environment. I’m not saying that it’s an easy thing to do. And I may have forgotten to mention in my previous comment to also appreciate all the parents for sending their kids to the summer camp to get closer to their culture.
      Finally let me ask you this;
      Does a Tibetan settling in US makes you a less of refugee to look down on those living in India??
      Even if you have managed to get the citizenship that doesn’t erase your roots and the struggles we as a Tibetan community shared as a refugee.

      @@andy_k5153 No one is saying we don’t practice the language at home or try to learn. We were saying it is harder to learn Tibetan fluently in a place where the main language you speak is not Tibetan. As for other places like Tibet and India you are surrounded by people who are Tibetan and speak it constantly. In places like the US no one speaks Tibetan and is much harder to learn. So do not try to compare your speaking with ours or try to judge us when you truly don’t know how difficult it is to learn in a foreign country.

    Hello everyone, Thank you so much for the video. I think the purpose of making this video is to encourage our youngsters to take more interest in our language and culture. I am proud of my kids speaking good Tibetan but it has never been easy to let them speak because I have to shout each and every moment they are together to speak in Tibetan. So, I can understand that it’s very difficult for parents abroad…! I respect very much other parents and their kids for their choice of speaking the language of their own residential country. There’s nothing wrong in it. It’s their right! No one has the right to point out on them!
    I sincerely salute them for taking very keen interest in our language and our valuable culture that they decided to participate in the TCV Summer Camp program. They will learn Tibetan in no time! The will is already there, so the way will follow naturally!!! Don’t you worry!
    My message to the people who always complain about language and stuff, is that please don’t discourage the ones who come forward to do something meaningful during their vacation time, instead of enjoying and hanging around somewhere you dream of spending your 6 weeks’ vacation! Don’t you realise how much they sacrified so much? Please respect them and STOP being rude. You will receive nothing in return! So what is the use of blaming??? Hope you will think twice before writing your comments in the future! BOD GYAL LO!!!

I think the main reason behind this is most of the parents in Europe cant speak German, french, dutch etc.. While in the states most of the parents can speak in english, they dont put the extra effort to teach them Tibetan as they are quite comfortable communicating with them. You can also see that kids whose parents are directly from Tibet usually speak better Tibetan than the ones whose parents are from India. No ill intentions, just something that i noticed.

They speak English well because they go to AN AMERICAN SCHOOL where they SPEAK ENGLISH. Do you not understand they go to high school where these kids are given assignments that could take hours to finish and afterschool club activities that take over their afternoon? Yet you expect them to magically be fluent in Tibet right away! Not to mention the PARENTS HAVE JOBS!!!! In America, immigrants struggle as they don't have high-paying jobs meaning most of them work OVERTIME and sometimes multiple jobs as well! People who call these children and parents "disgraces" have way too much time on their hands to criticize and hate. I even know some of these students and they all WORK HARD to learn the Tibetan language and its culture, Learning a language cannot be done easily especially not with all these students and their parent's busy schedules. So instead of being an absolute douchebag and a nuisance, EITHER SUPPORT THEM OR DON'T SPEAK.

You go straight to conclusion and think we don’t care about being Tibetan and our culture in general. Tibetan is not one of the languages you talk in America and is difficult to learn when all you talk in is English in America. My dad is white and my mom is Tibetan and we have to talk in English due to my father. But I still do try to connect to my culture and if all you think is negative then you are a reason why younger generation kids are like this. Instead of trying to help or motivate you bring them down and talk negatively to the younger generation kids from foreign countries who are trying to learn. You give them no motivation to try because all you think of them is as failures with comments like these. It’s shame that these kids can’t speak proper Tibetan language, let alone reading and writing in Tibetan. Their parents should be ashamed of themselves, kids are definitely not at fault cos I have seen so many Tibetan diaspora’s parents talking to their children in English ( broken 😞) , as if speaking in English makes them feel superior. I am working here in corporate company in New York and whenever I see Tibetan so called parents talking to their kids in English, I feel like mocking them and make them realise the importance of speaking to them in Tibetan at least. I Would never speak to my kid in English and nor do I entertain when they talk to me in English .. if we Tibetans don’t preserve our own language n culture , then it’s no brainer that our culture n language will extinct in no time ( we don’t need CCP to destroy our heritage and language) . Always try to communicate to ur kids in Tibetan at home atleast . If you see any kids laughing or feeling weird at our own language n prayers , blame urself as a parents ( not the kids ) . Hope this knocks some vestige of sensitivity among those half baked parents who thinks speaking in English looks sassy 💁.
