Oh wow, I just saw that this video is 9 years old. Still no website for Ravenworks ... ? That's frustrating. I would have liked to get more information, especially about the cost.
Hi chuck, I had a discussion with you some time back about the Ravenscroft and VPC-1 combination and recently realised that I never came back to say thanks after I eventually bought both! Well, now I have, and they are as exceptional a combination as you reported. So ... thanks again Chuck, your advice is top notch and you make a difference ... you make it easier for he rest of us! Keep up the good work :)
@@JohannesLabusch Ahhh - I got the VPC1 and the Ravenscroft separately - not the Ravenscrift specific one. It’s a good enough combination - you wouldn’t be disappointed 👍
Hi Chuck, nowadays when you output the sound... do you use (1) computer headphone output to two TS breakout cables, and hook to 2 studio monitor speakers, or (2) connect by USB cable from computer to an audio interface box, like the Scarlett 4i4, and then from the audio interface, now you have two balanced TRS to connect to two studio monitors, or (3) from the computer headphone output, connect to a DI AV box (such as Radial Engineering ProAV2 Stereo Direct Box), which can now output two balanced signals, again, connect to two studio monitors? Do you think one way is better than the other for the above 3 methods? But I suppose when we hear the sound you recorded, it is directly recorded digitally using the DAW, such as Ableton Live or Logic Pro... so it is not related to the hookup 1, 2, or 3?
Awesome videos! I just saw all of your VPC 1 videos, very informative. I cannot wait to have mine shipped...it'll be soon. One question: what is your speaker set up to play/practice piano? I currently have a pair of krk studio monitors and they sound great for pretty much everything, but there is something "missing" in the sound when practicing piano. Maybe a subwoofer, will help? Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance for any response. Greetings from Peru!
Congratulations on your forthcoming VPC1 !! I'm using a pair of Yamaha MSP5's at both the home and music studios. They're the bi-amped equivalent of the old Yamaha NS10's which were the standard in the music industry for a long, long time.
Hey Chuck! I've enjoyed and benefited from your videos over the past few years... I'm so grateful! I stumbled on this one today because I'm considering a VPC-1 for my studio. My current 88 is a Fantom 8. I find the action more realistic and satisfying than most. However, I've decided to sell it as there's a lot about the board that doesn't resonate. I have a Stage 4 HA73 which shuffles between being above my Fantom and in the Salon of my sailboat. I'm trying to find clarity about whether to replace my Fantom 8 with a Stage 4 88 or a VPC-1. I absolutely love the functionality and sounds of the Stage 4. I'm not crazy about its action but am still able to emote while playing. If I go with a Stage 4 88, there will be times when I have 2 Stage 4s in my studio. If I go with the VPC-1, there will be times when I won't have a Stage 4 in my studio. You mentioned having a Stage 2, so I feel you're able to offer valuable insight. How well will the VPC-1 work with the Stage 4? Is it just a matter of connecting a MIDI cable, turning up the volume and selecting a program on the Stage 4 and begin playing? I play a number of world instruments. However, piano is my primary and I'm particular about the feel of the key bed. Thanks! Mitch
Hey Chuck :) Nice video! Do you think ravenswork designs will sell their vpc1 modification in stock on their website or will they just sell it on request?
Hi Chuck, I have Truekeys American Grand and after a little editing it's the best sounding piano I've ever had. Currently I also have VSL Vienna Imperial which I'm very disappointed with. (way out of tune and buggy sustain issues) I use a S90es as my controller sometimes layering the yamaha piano with the American Grand. I've had many piano software products in the past including Ivory American grand, Vintage D, Alicias Keys, Pianoteq 5 but Truekeys is still the best to my ears. I'm just wondering if the Ravenscroft would sound even better than American Grand. Thanks, Dave
Hello Chuck , I am owner of Kawai VPC1 (factory Kawai's version) and I use Ravenscroft 275 library. Which touch curve from VPC Editor is suitable for Ravenscroft ? Thank you in advanced !
Hi Chuck, You probably already know about the product called Muse Receptor. Looks like virtual instruments can be played on it without a computer. Ravenscroft has a Muse Receptor version. I think quite an advancement for the virtual instruments helping them become portable.
I'm not aware of the Ravenscroft Piano in any other digital form other than the one from VI Labs. But it would be a good idea if they pursued a Muse version... as well as a Kronos and Nord version, and any other sampling keyboard.
Really a great idea from Ravenscroft PMChuck! Can you be a bit more specific/comparisons to other piano's action? I recently played a Fazioli...is it similar? Thanks, and keep the videos coming. Great info!
The custom VPC1 mod from Ravenworks is specific to their own Ravenscroft 275. However, using the velocity curves, you can make the VPC1 emulate the action/feel of just about any piano you want.
Hi Chuck, is your VPC1 the normal stock piano by Kawai, or do you play a modified one? How would you describe the difference in feel between the normal VPC1 and the one modified by Ravenwork?
Hello, PianoManChuck! Can you please tell, what Audio Interface do you use to play and record your software pianos? Maybe you can recommend some of them (I mean Audio Interfaces, not software pianos)? For example, which type you recommend - internal PCI Express or external USB Audio Interfaces? Maybe you can make video about this? Because this is important as it's impossible to enjoy any, even Hi-End software piano sounds if you don't have worthy audio interface. Regards, Oleg
***** I'm very well versed with digital pianos, and the *operation* of audio interfaces. But for audio interfaces in general, I'm' just not that familiar with what's out there in terms of making any recommendations.
PianoManChuck OK, thanks anyway. But still do you use any audio interfaces in your studio? I think sure. Maybe you can name it? It doesn't mean I'll buy that one, it's only for interest and general learning of this question.
Hello, quick question: did you modify the default settings (velocity curve maybe) the Ravenscroft Piano came with? Because the sound I get from my monitors is no where near the quality I hear from yours. Thank you.
got the VPC1 two weeks ago, added Ravenscroft 275 couple day ago... watched all your videos about it, very helpful! I think the trade off between sound and playability with the Ravenscroft275 VST is the best. Pianoteq 6 is even better in terms of playability but I like the Ravenscroft275 sound much better... feel it's still a lot more "real" than Pianoteq, especially low end notes. Thanks for all those videos :)
That's great - glad to hear that it all worked out for you! And yes, this is a case where a sampled piano (Ravenscroft) sounds better than physical modeling!

I hope he’s on here still lol I need help setting up my VPC1 I just bought, I just realized it was 9 yrs old as well
10 years later and this is still the best setup on the market!

Hi Chuck,
I just bought the Ravenscroft. It is incredible. Thanks for the demo's.
Congratulations, Bill! You'll have a great time with it... just don't forget to get some sleep too :)

None of the above. Everything today is recorded directly on a QSC TouchMix 30 (32-channel digital mixer/recorder). All IO is handled via the QSC.
@@PianoManChuck when you output the VST sound from the computer to the QSC, do you use USB or headphone output (3.5mm)?
Do you still have it?

Can you do a review of the new release of Pianoteq?
Does this have any interface build to it
How much would that mod cost, I wonder?
Hey Chuck :)

Fannix-kun {anime piano} That's something you'll need to ask Ravenworks!

The one that works best for you is the ONLY acceptable touch curve. Play around until you find that one.
what do you use for audio interface?
At the time of this video (8 years ago) it was most likely a Zoom R24. Today however, I use a QSC TouchMix 30.

That was very informative! Do you know where I can try one of these Ravenworks VPC's? Thanks for taking the time to put this video together.
Thanks for your feedback! I think you'll need to contact Ravenworks... contact info is in the description area for this video.
Hi Chuck just wondering if you use a PC to play through what sound card interface to you recommend.
Thanks

Byron Delgado Reverb was adjusted slightly, other than that no changes.
Sound depends also from Audio Interface and other things.
how is the playability with a REGULAR VPC 1 ? is the software only so amazing with the modified kawai vpc1 ?
