    Nice, I'm hoping to find similar thermals tomorrow.

    looks pretty well established to me, surely strong but not turbulent. Good stuff :)

    Been in some lift near 2k per minute. I was working my jaws like I was chewing gum trying to equalize the pressure to inner ear!

    You don't need that bit of the glider, it wasn't in the lift :)

    When I was into hang gliding we'd call them "peggers" when the vario would stop it's screaming and go silent. That meant you were going up at least 1,000' per minute. That was heaven.

    this is normal and can happen inside a good thermal

    How did you take off in flat Florida?

      We use towing with a specially designed winch attached to a car.
      You can see a take-off here:

      And this is the maker of the eWinch, one of my favorite winches on the market:

    That was no joke. Looked like some 700 feet per minute type stuff.😳

      700'/minute or 3.4 m/s is an average thermal. It becomes dicey above 5-6 m/s if it is narrow and/ or the form is uneven.
      If you weight-shift properly, a 25% collapse on the outside is a non-event, that part of the wing is responsible for less than 10% of the lift (due to the weight-shift). Just stay committed (on the open side of the wing) and pump it out. Safer IMO than exiting the core, and risking another, potentially a frontal, collapse in the downdraft.
      Btw, I fly the Carrera too and LOVE it!

      @@AceMcMoron I'm planning to buy second hand Carrera. Can you please clarify the things I heard about it , that its not stable or too many collapses . Is it true or just bad piloting?

    • @AceMcMoron
      @AceMcMoron 2 роки тому +3

      @@ArtOfParagliding I cannot "clarify"', just give my personal experience on a Carrera+, size XL flown at the top. A smaller size Carrera, flown in the middle could be a completely different experience..
      For me, the wing has been extremely stable. I now have around 180h on it. I've only had one collapse, on a huge cliff at noon midsummer. I do pilot the wing actively. Since I do not know you, I cannot give you sound advice.
