  • After a weekend in the snow on Rainier, we look to the i90 corridor for an early summer hike with less of a chance of snow. When will we ever learn our lesson?

I love the way you film your hikes. Watching other videos seems to display a pattern of fast shots. These videos right here, show you what you want to see. The nature shots simple as the streams and peekaboo peaks, you really show the DETAIL thats more than a second long!!!

I love how you can go to basically any high peak in Washington and still see rainier. Such a beauty!!

    In Search Of
    the
    Wholly Hike On
    by Nichespur
    Curve the sunshine over
    sky blue rounds surrounding
    fertile fields quite outstanding
    to those who walk
    It's thrills.
There miles to be had here
foot falls felt through shoe leather
    distances so slowly dancing trough
that mind that now chooses to explore
    it's own and quite often
    so called unconstructive views.
    Rocks fall here
amongst the trees and weeds of life
whilst rivers run tween mountain tops
    cutting canyons
for you and me to see!
    Need be
    while STILL standing
On some long and lofty edge
whereupon both the danger and the drudge of it ALL
    somehow seems so un-important
    when compared
    to the truly beautiful experience
    we just had
    alone?

You guys make the Matterhorn seem like an afternoon stroll...there's no way I can ever keep up with you. In part because I'm 72. Truly amazing adventures you guys are living, you are amazing.
I typically pause your post to look up where in the world you're at. If possible could you add a map at the beginning and point out the starting point? In the beginning, you were kidding by saying less yacking... more tracking. I love your transparency and candor. Here's one for you "Motion is Lotion" so keep moving and sharing.

This is AWESOME! For the first time in one of your videos i've actually been there. Me and a buddy did Mason Lake in March, we hit snow once it got steep and all I had were trekking poles. It was pretty sketchy at times but we were determined. Unfortunately the snow was knee high .5 miles before the lake. I gotta make it back there soon. Thanks for the wonderful video, good job on the post frequency lately my man

    Those sooty grouse man.
My wife and I are birders. Took us like half hr just to find the tree and then another half to get a glimpse of it. It was a life bird for us so it was totally worth it.
    Love the video.

This is great so glad to see a new video. Do you guys plan to do any Q&A videos? I have some questions for Jens favorite shoes... also are you two members of the Washington hikers and climbers group?? Also please do more videos on the Olympic penninsula!!! Love you guys, your videos are taking over my weekdays when I can't hike. (Adulting is hard and I can only hike on the weekends) 😁

Great vid guys... as always!! Yes, spring hikes can be a challenge, at times; but when one is prepared, and has sufficient time; they can be very rewarding, as well. The same view can be totally different when the peaks still have snow remaining on them, than when it's all gone. Thanks!! Looking forward to the next one. Ed

Great stuff. Great production. It's fun to see trails I've done so many times, in better or worse conditions, using modern media. IMHO you should include a few disclaimers such as 'we made it easy but things can go wrong', or 'be sure to bring your 10 Essentials'. And sometimes when you 'scramble' you're doing so technically (as opposed to the common meaning of 'trying hard') - it would be good for viewers to appreciate that. I hope your channel takes off!

This was a great video! You two really know all of the peaks & some you have already summit from previous videos. And a real beautiful view of Mt. Rainier off in the distance. I hope you two do plan on coming back to Mt. Rainier National Park during sometime this summer.

Just did this a couple weeks ago! Attempted the true summit, but with crappy snow and wet trail runners that I kept post-holing in I decided to not continue. Glad to see someone has made it though!

With the history of Ira Spring and all the mountaineers that made so much possible for us to follow their footsteps ..
I have never done the hike you are now doing .. I have not hiked into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness itself as of yet either ..
You are doing some good filming work .. Have you and Jen hiked into the Alpine Lakes itself ?

Well done! Y'all should do the P3 loop - the ridge walk from P3 to Defiance isn't bad and is a good way to bag 3 peaks in a day.

    • @OutsideAndStuff
      @OutsideAndStuff  6 років тому +1

The next time we come into the corridor, that's the hike we will be doing. We avoided it this time due to the large amounts of snow on the ridge and on Defiance. I was hoping to avoid snow on Bandera, but all the recent trip reports only went to the false summit. :)

Because I listened to the advice on WTA, I have missed that view from the actual summit. I will have to go there during Summer.

Love the thumbnail. Jen looks like she just discovered land after months at sea while you're recovering from a night of to much grog.

Great job with the zoom-ins during your panorama! Zooming in gives a much more realistic perspective on some of the distant peaks....the camera (standard zoom) really pushes them away. Nice shooting on this one!

    • @OutsideAndStuff
      @OutsideAndStuff  6 років тому

Thank you. It's a bit hard to mix my camera shots. I'm usually so blasted from the hike I dont think about slowing down to allow more closeups with my big camera. I'm working on the cinematography so hopefully I can sort this out in future videos. :)

I just moved here from Fl (sound familiar)...and at first i was snapping many pics of the family with mountains in the background (Rainier mostly) but the mountains always come out pitifully small in the background. Not even worth trying to capture them. I was standing at a friends house at the base of Mt. Si with clear view of the haystack. I had to zoom my phone cam in full to match the naked eye size of the haystack from that distance....photography aint easy, you do a solid job.

Unfortunately for you guys the snow was there, but at the end of the day you had the summit and it's views just for you. Easy to say that it's worth it.
By the way, I don't have a Instagram, but my girlfriend is following you, so I can check you out there now as well. ;]
    Thank you for the video.

Really love your videos and thanks so much for continuing to make them. How do you like the Keen Durands ?

    • @OutsideAndStuff
      @OutsideAndStuff  6 років тому +1

Hi James Thank you! Jen says the Keen's are more durable than the targhee twos but they suffer from the same traction problems in the wet. All in all she likes them and recommends them for those who are not climbing and spending time in wet situations.

Outside & Stuff thanks ! I have a pair and I agree. I had the new La Sportiva Nucleos for the Enchantments and they were amazing but unfortunately they are super thin and were strangling my feet. Using the Tarhee 3s now and are very awesome
