Having recently been trying to go through coins my husband and I have saved randomly for the past 50 years, those given by family, as well as a large collection I was given by a dear friend, I was absolutely overwhelmed by the task. Your grading explanation, information and specific identification points is so helpful in determining, at least, which coins are good for keeping for just silver value or resale, and at best - giving adequate opportunity to evaluate a coin collection's prize pieces and overall estimated value so as to give a person confidence in correctly sorting and storing, or a first time dealing with a local appraiser. Thank you for this comprehensive overview.
Thank you. Over been buying from a coin store and trusting them to tell me how much the coins I purchased truly costs. I began to not trust them when I’d walk in and a coin that was $30 one day, was $60 a week later. So I purchased a Red Book after watching this video and now I can study the details of a coin and know its value. I want be taken advantage of again. All because I watched this video.
This was an excellent video. The only thing that would have been better would have been to show us a closeup of the wear on the AU coin compared to an uncirculated example, so that we can see the slight wear on the high points clearly.
Thank you for the video"I wasn't sure exactly how it was done in learning more everyday.im getting ready to send some coins in for grading, i inherited a lot of my dad's old coins they had been uncirculated for years. Thank you again
The graph is very helpful, I'm pleasantly surprised at the detail to grading ratio. I've a number of silver and gold coins that I wouldn't mine getting graded but I'm in the UK far from London, might take the coins with me next time I travel to the states and get them graded then. Thanks for sharing the video.

I look for nearly full details on VF and above. Worn details by degree but still visible. I want my VF coin to show nice strong overall details with no problems. The exception with PCGS is the Walking Liberty Half where the breast of Liberty can be too harshly worn to be graded VF in my opinion.
Hi Mark, while they are not graders we do have PCGS Authorized Dealers in Ottawa and other cities in Ontario that can assist with screening and submitting your coins. www.pcgs.com/dealers Please let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

Id like to see a video on grading Bust Coins that were minted with no power. The judging of wear vs just a weak area strike. I have many Capped Bust 50c that are AU50 in 75% of the details and almost flat details in 25%. Minting these old coins lacked "Quality" and repetitive uniformed strikes.
Would anyone let me send them a pic of a couple of my coins and tell me of they're worth having graded? I understand the grading scale. I just do understand the standard..

Be real skeptical when buying/selling coins. You could lose your ass. When i was 9 years old thank goodness i learned my lesson on a few cheap coins. All coins are cull when you go to sell them to a coin shop.
With the wide availability of the Red Book and the Blue Book, they can't really fudge the price anymore. The only thing left is to fudge the grade.
shops have overhead they cant give you want or what its worth , another collector will do you better
