Everyone loves The Godfather and Scarface as their best gangster/mafia movies (I love those too), but Road to Perdition is definitely my favorite just because of the genius and touching story that comes with the gangster action! This movie had such an amazing score by Thomas Newman and an excellent screenplay...definitely one of my top 10 favorites!
Yeah but what about Jude Law... his acting was so brilliant using a totally different set of mannerisms and facial expressions that he could make you forget he's Jude Law . And also Daniel Craig
This movie can easily stand the test of time. If we are all gone some day, I hope they find this movie, and its brilliant display of how beautiful and terrible the human race can be. And how we always hope to leave our children more enlightened and richer than we were. 😢
To this day, still one of my all time favorite movies. Incredible. The story, the pace, the cinemetogrophy, and the the music. The fact that it was based in the depression helps too. I love watching shows and films from that era. Incredible.
Greatest Irish mob movie ever. Amazing in so many ways, not the least of which was the generally stellar acting and the sublime cinematography. Really draws one in, the powerful family bonds that become deepened and solidified, the solemn yet moving musical score, the apparent emotional conflict evident within Rooney Sr., Michael Sullivan and his own son, along with that final act of justified revenge followed by the final reconciliation of one's prior, bad deeds with that of being a loving and humane father, thirsty for some type of redemptive act. All in all it was a superb movie, almost flawlessly executed with all the various elements tied in together marvelously. Best Irish mob movie ever!
There is a relationship between crime syndicates and the church and both parties profit from it. And it's not just the Catholic Church, it's other churches too. You can learn something from this movie, it's also a work of art.
This, is by far the most perfect film! And it didn't have one car chase in it or explosion, and I absolutely LOVE IT!! So excited that this director is doing the next Bond film! VERY EXCITED
One of the most gorgeously shot and scored movies of the last 30 years. This was Conrad Hall as cinematographer, who also did masterpieces like Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid. His last film, which pretty sure won him a posthumous Oscar. It is probably his best shot film. Film students: study use of light, dark and reflective surfaces running through entire film.
There is so much depth and symbolism within this film. We studied it in English class and it's just so beautiful and well crafted. Well done Mendes :) Great acting.
I have watched this film many many times ove the last few years and everytime it's like seeing it new. It's more like a song you love-you never really tire of it. Pure cinema-fabulous.
im a 20 year old guy,and this movie makes me wanna cry everytime. such a beautiful story, and it perfectly shows the true reality of human nature, betrayal, loyalty, and vengeance...what makes a human a human. tom hanks is a god
One of the most hands down beautiful scores ever created by the wonderful Thomas Newman, genius. and most heart wrenching endings i've ever seen captured and put on screen in my life. pure beauty. love it forever ;) and thnk u so much JamesKlanto for uploading this amazing movie, seriously.
the filming of this movie was absolutley stunning. The music was and is A++++. the relationship between father ans son is cpmplicated and never what it seems. Excellent picture.
One of the best movies of the decade, and should have won the Best Picture of 2002. Why this film lost for best Original Score, Direction, and acting by both Hanks and Newman is still beyond me. A future classic and masterpiece of filmmaking.
@@mphrdldn This movie reminded me of the Sawshank Redemption. Then, after doing some research , I found out why. The musical score was written by the same composer, Thomas Newman.
I think this is one of those movies that you will always get something new out of each time you watch it. I watched it a few years back, but it was more meaningful this time around because I'm more mature.
I loved this movie when I saw it for the first time and I still love it today. IMHO this movie is an epic masterpiece. btw: the soundtrack is a fuckin masterpiece too.
so glad to hear good reviews for this fantastic movie....i hav seen this n number of times.....as my friends said it is the most underrated movie of all time.....hats off to paul newman..a gud tutorial for film making.....thriller at its best
This, is film. Cinema. First and foremost it is art. And a collaboration of music and script that is forever rare. Let alone blessed with a cast that has proven itself prior and then to follow. Thomas Newman’s soul found this story exceptionally challenging that it welled up deep focus and the songs had already been written in his emotion. The blend of manifest destiny major counterpoint to the tribal Gaelic modes and minor depressions, we’re missing the power people. This is 20 years old. It shouldn’t shame what we are experiencing today as it does. In spades.
WONDERFUL!! ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL MOVIE!! ALL HATS OFF AND A STANDING OVATION! THIS MOVIE DEFINATELY NEEDS MORE ATTENTION, IT'S REMARKABLE! TOM HANKS WAS MADE FOR THIS!
Every father wants a better life for their son and to become someone better than they themselves are. And every son, no matter what the man may or may not have done during their life, loves their dad.
watched this movie purely because tyler hoechlin was in it but man, if i had known what a fabulous movie this is i would have watched it anyway! soooo good. :) INCREDIBLE acting all around. Great plot. Perfection
So rarely do you see a movie on youtube with so many great and intelligent reviews (not the just the typical..."badass" or "awesome"). As a sign of respect for this movie the cast and everyone involved in the making of this masterpiece is ask you all to go out and purchase it, I know I will. Thank you for the Upload JameKlanto, you have a new subscriber!
When he said "I'm sorry, I'm sorry I'm sorry" after he got shot at the end was he talking to his son or to God? Something to think about... The smile on Micheal Sr.'s face when he knew his son couldn't pull the trigger like he has so many times was priceless. Although Mike Jr was like his father so many ways he didn't have the killer inside of him like his father did and it made him glad and then he died. Awesome movie, I was happy to see it again... THANK YOU FOR POSTING!
appreciate the considerate cuts Klanto, I remember watching Lawrence of Arabia here and the OP slice one of the greatest film cut in history into to pieces. I actually never knew the cut existed until I saw it on TV years later.
I love how his dad protected him from having to kill anyone. He wanted his son to not do the evil things he did and have a chance at being a good man, unblemished because he loved him. Also I love that he never held a gun again.
You know you've seen an amazing film, when it takes a cliche concept and still manages to absorb you through delivery. There wasn't many surprises, but the actors/characters and their development are what shine. The only unfortunate thing is the fact that i like many others had never heard of this film beforehand. P.S. the crazier thing is the fact that this was based off a graphic novel.
This , Shawshank & Green Mile are amazing periodic era films and albeit some of the films with heavy emotional tones in them you are bound to shed a tear at some point
amazing ! i lost my fahter to. In some way i feel my father to went out of his way for me not be like him. beautiful in all aspects! paul newman should have got a oscar for this!!
"The Farm" and "Road to Chicago" play over the end credits. Thomas Newman does the score to a lot of Tom Hanks movies, and Sam Mendes is using him again for "Revolutionary Road"
one of my favorite movies of all time, and it was a mafia film that should definatly be added in the top ten, great story, great acting, and just all around amazing. It saddens me to look for it's recognition, and yet it's always thrown asside for movies like the Godfather... I mean, sure, the godfather was a pretty good movie, but his just captured everything im looking for in a mob movie, to me, this is so much better than the godfather in more ways than one.
Nice job by Tom Hanks and all the principal players. Hanks' tone and vocal cadences reminded me of William Holden, particularly through the early part of the movie. For me there is not much higher compliment than that.
This film is a masterpiece. Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, the score. The cinematography. It should have won all the Oscars.
Agree!
Agreed
@@mphrdldn This movie grew on me. The more I watched it ,the more I liked it. BTW...great musical score.
This movie actually did win the Oscar for Best Cinematography. And Paul Newman was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
It should be up there with The Godfather and Goodfellas.

What a BRILLIANT movie! And don't forget the awesome work of Thomas Newman. This movie wouldn't be the same without his wonderful music! 10/10
Maybe the best musical score I've ever heard--haunting, plaintive, beautiful. Without this music, the film would be only half as good.
Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of all time. This is a great movie.
Asesinos con educacion...muu buena....

Actually kill the Irishmen is probably better if not the best. Check it out. It's about Danny Greene. TRUE STORY
Easily one of the best movies I've seen. Makes me want to go give my own dad a massive hug.
Do it before it's too late.
Once again, we see that to appreciate a masterpiece, we must have patience enough to allow. It to unfold at its own pace.

Best Hanks movie ever! And I love all of his work. Made me cry a few times. Probably due to my relationship with my farther and my son.
"Farther". Interesting slip there. That's how I would describe my relationship with my father as well. "Farther".
@@lilythomson881 the last line of the movie made me choke up too. My dad was a complicated guy, but he loved me.... He was my father.
An underrated masterpiece and one of Hanks’ favorites.
Thanks for splicing this together seamlessly. A fine film.
Best graphic novel turned into a movie. Ever. Even better than History of Violence.
FritzIdler And both were Irish themed!

The movie had an excellent blend of great music, action, and emotion. My all time Fav!
