  • Hear the story of one of the most successful low input beef programs in the business, on this episode of the American Rancher.
Today, we’re in Palmer, Kansas at Ohlde Cattle Company where Tim, Trudy and their son Jake have developed one of the lowest input beef seedstock programs in the industry. Ohlde cattle can finish on grain or grass, which is attractive to grass finishing programs and translates into commercial cows that require less feed to maintain body condition scores. The Ohldes have a lifelong passion for raising cattle, and now their cattle are in demand by ranchers across the country.

Interesting! I raise Dexter beef cattle. Mostly because as an organic grain farmer I need low impact on my ground when grazing cover crops. I’m a huge fan of light weights. They are so much easier to marble out.

Wife and I started raising Dexters this year. Mainly as freezer beef cuz most families only want 400 lbs at a time. Thought is why only take half the cuts when u could get the same amount of weight but double all the steaks and roasts.
