Great video. Another tip for Final Fantasy III is that you can get a physical version for PSP as well. It's a Japan exclusive release but you can play it completely in English without the need for patching.
This is a bit old now, but I just wanted to say I'm a fan of your collection and appreciate you putting this together. For someone who is new to the series it could take extensive research just to know which hardware to start acquiring to play the game. This made it so much easier. I agree with most of your choices, also, i never had a problem with how FF1 plays. Im tend to play modern games and after playing FF1 for the first time on GBA and Java (i dont remember which version i played first) i could complete most of the game without guides. If you talk with the NPCs you mostly know what to do next. Funny enough I was more times stuck in the more modern entries, although now i replayed FF1 so many times that i had muscle memory. Also PSP is the best, thanks! P.S: Your collection looks beautiful btw ❤

I’ve played 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 (and 13-2...absolutely fantastic game IMO that could have been on this list...unfortunately I couldn’t stick with Lightning returns and didn’t enjoy it...), and 15. Great informative video! I recently got into the series and have played 1, 7, Crisis Core, and Remake, 8, 10, and 13. I really look forward to getting to the other games in the series. Im not that crazy into handhelds so I'll probably get the PS1 versions of 4-6, but I have the DS version of 3 and can't wait to play it. PS. I have Lost Odyssey and have played it a little bit, look forward to getting back to it.

This was a really cool and informative video. I probably will stick with the way I play them but it was really neat nevertheless. Here is how I play them. Call me a purist/play in its original form/vision type person but yeah. Final Fantasy 1 :Nes or PS1 Final Fantasy 2: PS1 Final Fantasy 3: Nes Translated Repro from Timewalk Games Final Fantasy IV: PS1 Final Fantasy V: PS1 Final Fantasy VI: PS1 Final Fantasy VII: PS1 Final Fantasy VIII: PS1 / They lost the source code so the PS1 version is the true authentic one. Final Fantasy IX: PS1 Final Fantasy X & X-2: PS2 / They never got those faces correct on the remasters. The PS2 faces look so much better in my opinion. Final Fantasy XII: PS2 Final Fantasy XIII: PS3 Where were XIII-2 and Lightning Returns? Anyway, I play those on the PS3 as well. Final Fantasy XV: PS4 Pro I would love to hear your thoughts on the 13 sequels, Crystal Chronicles, Final Fantasy Adventure and the 3 Legend games on Game Boy, Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Advanced, Dirge of Cerebus FF 7, and Final Fantasy type 0 as well.
FFIII on PSP is superior, everything is the same except the sound is superior. It’s JP exclusive but has english on it. That’s the version you buy on Vita.
it was also released on Steam in HD, but I would still recommend the Vita version because of how grindy classic final fantasy games are, its a great way to kill time on the go with a handheld. (Until the steam deck comes out haha)

Spoiler for FF7 Remake . . . . . . . . . . . . It's actually a sequel and requires you to have played original 7 . .
The only one I disagree with is FF8. The Remaster has very blurry backgrounds and the world map looks horrible. Some NPCs in the game were not even reworked it looks really off.

I've only beaten 7 and Remake. I own a few others, like XII which I havent even played on PS2. I see no reason they cant port the PSP/DS versions of the older games to Switch.

My first Final Fantasy was Tactics Advance on GBA oddly enough. I'd later go on to play and enjoy a bit of Crystal Chronicles as well as VI, beat the pants off the GBA version of FF I and then get to disk 2 on FF IX. Seriously need to finish playing IX, tbh.
Just a quick PSA: Don't sleep on the PC versions of these games, especially if you have a beefy PC! Particularly FF7-15 FF7 with mods allow you to play the best looking version of that game. FF8 Remastered has a few extra bells and whistles that no other version has. FF9 also has mods that makes that games the best looking version. FF10/10-2 has some pretty amazing mods and native 4k support. FF12 has all the features that the Xbox and Switch versions have (to be fair I am pretty sure the PS4 version got updated too) and it also has native 4k and 60fps support which no other version of the game can do. FF13/13-2/Lighting Returns all have native 4k support and 60+fps support, all the DLC included, and some great mods. FF15 has all the DLC and is the only version of the game that support native 4k 60+fps. The pixel remasters of 1-6 are also really solid. They are missing the extra content found in the earlier remakes of those games, but the overall quality of the additional content is questionable in the first place, so there is a good argument for the pixel remasters being the best version of the first 6 games.
@@sebastiankulche They have the best music, arguably the best translation, and all of them have some solid mod if you are in to that sort of thing. Also OG 4 was a joke both in terms of difficulty and translation. The translation of FF5 on PS1, which is how we first got that game, was somehow more of joke in some ways in regards to its translation. FF6 on SNES was okay... but heavily censored and still bad. You are wrong.

PS1 is basically a 1:1 SNES port. It also lacks extra content seen in other remakes and is almost unniversaly seen as a bad looking version, both sprites which even lacks the subtle things of other versions like the moving sprites for the flying enemies for example, and text format that looks out of place for a game like this. Just saying facts. Not my problem if you cant accept it.

Going to have to argue against the PSP version of FF1. It was built upon the easy mode of the PS1 release. The PS1 version is kind of the best, seeing as it has the original difficulty and magic system, but with most of the bugs fixed.
Great vid man! Quick question -- do you happen to know if the PSP versions of the earlier games are the versions I would be getting from the PS store on my PS Vita? I have 7 and 8 on my Vita and when I start up those games they seem to me to be the PSP versions based on the opening text.
Thank you ! So I know that Final Fantasy origins which is 1&2 combined is available for download on Vita, however these are NOT the psp versions. I’ll have to get back to you on whether or not the psp versions can be downloaded!
At least in PAL regions you can get the PSP versions of FF, FFII, FFIII, FFIV and FF Tactics. Of the PS1 titles, you can further get FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX. If you buy these games on your Vita, you can still download them on the originál PSP.
The SNES version of Final Fantasy VI is still the definitive version of the game. It's the only version without loading and without an unaltered soundtrack both present. The GBA version is a close second. The definitive version of Final Fantasy I and II is the GBA editions. Why? Because both games are included on one cartridge, and an MP system is added as an option in FFI.
That’s all very true, and a good suggestion, I’m usually down for a bit more content, so I like the summons in the GBA FF6, but it doesn’t sound great, and as far as 1 & 2, I really like the PSP dungeons at the end, but the gba version is definitely the most convenient! Thanks for watching thanks 🙏
Hey one question since the Pixel Remasters are on sale right now on Steam. Are they worth it for playing FFI-FFVI for the first time? I only own a PS5, Pc and Switch and I dont really want to buy another console. I didnt watch the whole video so sorry if you mentioned them in the video and I missed it.
They’re great looking versions, they lack all the bonus features and extra dungeons of later releases, but if you’re looking for the base games with great pixel animation, go for it.
Final Fantasy 13 trilogy is very good, is very technically impressive, has aged pretty well, Lightning, Snow and Hope are great characters., the problem of FF 13 is it´s style, is more light and more anime, and less "artistic" like in Lost Odyssey or the older Final Fantasy games and i understand that was an issue back then, but for real this trilogy is a bunch of way better polished games than FF XV which feels very rough and incomplete and very mediocre
I can only really speak to 13 and 13-2, having never beaten Lightning Returns, but yes, the hatred they receive is completely unwarranted and they deserve more respect.
Love the game! But this was just for the numbered entries! I talk about tactics on my psp video if you’re curious on my thoughts about that gem of a game!

great video i love ff, with 4,6, and 8 being my top 3 and 7, 10, and 12 being the ones being my least favorite, i played them many many many times, minus those bottom 3 i only played each of those once

FYI Final Fantasy 3 had a physical release on PSP in Japan and it has the English translation.
I believe V and VI will have faster loading times if played on a PS Vita, along with any other PS1 game, this is worth noting in my opinion.
