For backpacking I like the Big Agnes Skyline UL. It’s a good balance between the 1lb’ers and the 2+ lb options. Sits much higher than the Chair Zero so for me it’s nicer to get in and out of. For camp I use the Big Agnes Big Six. High back and it comes in a trout skin pattern which was all I needed to know… Fashion is important even in the backcountry. We aren’t savages after all.

sweet roundup of camp chairs! the spring loaded 'rockers' are now becoming super popular at games and for tailgating. Seeing them everywhere.

Camping: Massive Costco Timber Ridge Zero Gravity Chair, GCI Pod Rocker, Timber Ridge folding rocking chair
    Day Hikes: Helinox Chair Zero
Backpacking: Sit pad, (sometimes the Helinox but I do not regularly admit that on the internet)

Appreciate the review. I picked up the REI chair recent,y specifically for backpacking. When it comes to camping chairs, and yes, this will happen to you, as an older person I MUST and I mean MUST consider what chair will support or hurt my posture/back. I’d consider sitting in the TCEK chair, but most others, especially those Walmart type will hurt me. Though bulky, I love my GSI rocker with superior posture support, no sagging seat to make me slump and it has a built in cup and small table. Not that I care about those features, just care about the support for those anticipated longer hours sitting while car camping.

With my lightweight camping chair I bought 4 cheap table coasters, drilled a small hole in each one and fastened one to the bottom of each leg with a couple of cable ties. When on soft ground I can simply swing them under the feet and they stop the chair sinking into the ground when sitting.

I have all Big Agnes chairs. The Big Six is great for car camping. We use the Mica Basins for rafting and hiking. Put the stuff sack on the bottom of the chair and put a rock in it. Works great to stabilize the chair when your not in it.

Still using my original Chair Zero for backpacking. It keeps going and going. For car camping I picked up a few REI highback chairs which are comfortable enough to relax next to the campfire. Great breakdown Devin and congrats on 60K!

My relationship with Helinox chair Zero was pretty bad until I bought Chair Buddies. Damn these things are fantastic! Finally I can use my chair whatever I want. The cup holder is soso, I used mine maybe 2-3 times. But I like seat warmer a lot, it's a good accessory.

I have two Nemo Stargaze chairs. I bought them about a year apart, and on sale both times. Costco makes one very similar for about a quarter of the full price. Totally agree that it works best as an evening lounger, not an all around camp chair. One thing though, on Amazon is an accessory that's a foot rest that attaches to the cross bar underneath. I still use an Ozark Trail chair for general camp sitting.
Glad you did this vid as I'm also looking for a second backpacking chair to either supplement, or replace my BA Chair One (one of the originals from a decade ago).

Lately I've been digging into ultralight setups so a nice foam sit pad looks nice 😅. That chair looks nice for bait and wait fishing.

The LACAL chair weighs just 1.2 lbs, is more stable than either the REI or Zero, and cost $30. It’s also sold as the G2 GO2GETHER. I’m amazed I never hear about them. I’ve been packing one along for months, it fits in the drink bottle holder on one side of my backpack. Just a good product.

Helinox Chair Zero when backpacking. GCI Outdoors Pod Rocker is my go to when weight and space aren't an issue. I use it 5 days/week playing racquetball at the gym instead of sitting on the hard benches. Had it for 3 yrs now and still looks and functions as day one.

Monday, February 05th: Strongest chairs are not necessarily the lightest or the most modern. Cost, unfortunately, has very little relation to strength. Chairs used in RV-ing differ from chairs used in car camping, which differ from chairs used in long-distance hiking. To each their own. Thanks for the video. Happy Trails! Ross08

I really wish the big six had cutouts in the seat area. I wanted to love that chair, but I felt like I was sliding down it constantly. A slight design tweak would make that the perfect chair. I guess I'll have to wait and hope that helinox adds a chair with full arm supports.

My favorite camp chair is a Helinox Chair Two knock off I bought off of eBay for $25 US. I actually use it at work and sit in it every day, sometimes even nap in it while on break. I should have bought more because it has held up better than the actual Helinox chairs I have.

... Past couple of years purchased 2 camp chairs ,, one Helinox look-a-like ,, standard design ,low sitting about $50.00 ,, packs small , OK for backpacking ...... ,, one Helinox Sunset High back ,sits 18" at seat front with the fitted material base for soft ground and rocker feet for harder camp areas ,, on sale with odd printed pattern for about $120.00 .... wanted a higher chair with a high back ,, but bummer no armrests .... this one not for backpacking ... gotten too old and sore to get to the ground ..

Weight capacity would be helpful in comparing chairs. Doesn't matter how much it weighs or costs if you can't use it. Interesting options, though.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  11 місяців тому +3

True. With these chairs being larger chairs and not 1 pound backpacking chairs they all have 250+ pound capacity. But thanks for that feedback. That would have been a good detail to include.

What is this blasphemy talking negative about the stargazer chair????? The biggest downside is the space it takes up in a car. It's my favorite when car camping with friends and you spend the night being lazy and dumb around a fire! Swing, recline, chill, pass out. 🤣 But if one has kids or more of a social gathering trip where you're moving around/up/down/doing things it's not the best and agree with you there. It really is great for actual stargazing too. Great variety in chairs available these days from name brands to knockoffs.
