  • Ernst Toch, Spiel für Blas-Orchester, Op. 39, performed by the Harvard Wind Ensemble on March 11, 1966, directed by James Walker, in Sanders Theater. The principal clarinet was John Adams, who has become a celebrated Minimalist composer. The principal trumpet was John Walter Hill, a now-retired musicology professor and author of articles and books, including Baroque Music (New York: W. W. Norton, 2005). The conductor, James Walker, has also composed an impressive body of musical works. Unfortunately, the name of the excellent principal oboist has been lost from immediate memory. Can anyone supply his/her name?
