A small tweak I could see being useful is color coding some items. This could help when you pick up a bunch of items and can't really read what you got with everything else going on. You could for example pick a bunch of things up, see one of those items was a light blue color so it was a mana potion; or something like that.
is there a world where - to cope with making so many item variations for every material - you just assign a color template to each material and have the items recolored to that? The materials used can probably also work as a factor. (Wooden anything=[0.5x damage, 0.5x fire resistance] over the base statline for that item, for example). Just tossing this out there to hopefully lessen your workload some. Keep at it, this is very fun to see develop.
Impressed with the honesty, citing all your inspirations and games you used as references, great sense of humor to hahaha, good luck with the project, man! I'll be closely following.
The great thing about features like crafting is that they are very rewarding for the dev and the player. You can keep putting more and more work into them and the gameplay satisfaction just keeps going up, but the iteration time becomes shorter, that is if you plan it properly anyway.

Probably not. I am not a fan of recolors. But we'll see.
I love the special crafting stations system!! Great thought process, thanks for sharing it
Looking at your rough draft board… gg release in 5 years. You are torturing yourself with that scope.
