Awesome! Love when she said “I don’t believe in competing for what I want, I believe in creating what I want”
It really didn't add up to me until she related it to the A . Lincoln saying . she actually meant if you want to be become a CEO you have to prepare yourself for it.
That is works to live by now for me :), it really hits home.
I loved this too, but I would like to know the steps in her creative process, or perhaps what other people have found effective in creating what they want.

1. trust your struggle, it will finally bring out good results
2. compare yourself to other people will end up make you feel insecurity => no competitive in life as it has already been created. You create what you want to become and be a better version of yourself
3. share to be shared
4. failing to prepare = prepare to fail
The talk felt so sincere, with a true intent to share. It was inspirational and very practicable. Loved it, love her.
Nandan Tavkar agree
very sincere....im glad l watched it....

Ooh, she is Chiwetel Ejiofor younger sister, their mum did well as a single mother, by God's grace.
Wow!!
That's exactly what I was thinking when she was talking, you cannot get into private schools and get into Oxford if you are poor. But still, her story is very inspiring. Very successful family.
Makes sense, same way likes like Davido will always refuse their Dad some accolades
justmylifestyle She was not a single mother. She was a widow, who lost her husband! BIG difference.
justmylifestyle wow cool. Tips please mum!
Powerful Ted talk, this made alot of sense. We aren't in competition with each other. There's enough room for us all to make it. Focus on preparring yourself for what you want instead looking at what others are doing.

This is a breath of fresh air, I love her approach to success by not stepping on people on your way up. And that you should work on yourself for yourself instead of comparing yourself to people that have different journeys, struggles and demons than you.
This is exactly what I needed after graduating with an engineering degree and not wanting to pursue a career in that field. Self-awareness is key and one should try to be a better person than they were yesterday.

Prepare for opportunities in advance, Don't start preparing when the opportunity is already there. This was indeed so powerful!!
In spite of the fact that she graduated from Oxford and Columbia Universities - two of the most prestigious universities in the world. Zain still had to do a job that was never her dream career, working as a receptionist for almost four years - serving water to anybody who came in to apply for the job she wanted. An experience, she described as 'humbling'...Read about Zain Asher @pepplesotonyeblog
Me, "I can't take it anymore!"
Inner me, " Then, give."
One of my ways to de-stressed.
Their mom made them who they are today. She inculcated the foundation, hard work, preparations, smart thinking.
but still some kids don't just listen how much you tell them what to do what not to do... Taking away the phone and the tv is the best strategy. Idle video watching (either on tv or internet) and video games are the number one addiction among kids (as well as some adults) It's worst than the drugs because they can't admit that they have the problem.
The car accident that she referred to involved her brother, the great actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.

She lives by faith. This is all faith based. Fantastic advice!
I see ir differently... She lives by action
@@agnieszkanowicka4299 faith without works is dead
No matter what the hardships you are going through in life, have faith that someday the dots will connect and that everything will be fine. Challenge yourself to become better instead of putting yourself in a competition with someone else.
I have watched this video more than five times! I remember watching this two years ago...I look back now and my life have changed since the first time I watched this and put the lessons into practice.
I clapped this lady when she said create instead of compete... after all the struggles she's been she did not become a selfish competitive destructive person. It reminds me one of the habits of highly effective people... win-win and the principle of abundance, yep, there can be success for everybody, we all can shine XD. She could have said "I've suffered so much, I need this for me, I deserve this more than others, me me me". I've seen in life and at work how people is struggling to be above others at all costs, a few work hard to be 'superior' (being above others instead of doing a good job) and they focus on the disgrace and failure of the others...
the alternate of what she did is whats happening in world today
They have made it fashionable to justify creed. Disgraceful!
My sister was so bad at maths, well numbers in general, but because of all the lessons my mother took her too since she was like in Grade 2, today at age 28 she's a financial adviser for a large financial institution in South Africa and doing pretty well for herself, even appearing on our local news channels now and again. So you are so right... the struggle pays off in the end.

As a singer currently sat in a tiny studio alone and having sat here for 7 hours waiting on the producer To finally turn up, refusing to buy dinner and wait until I get home to cook to save money, this video was the most important part of my day. I trust my struggle. Thank you.
I could tell she was going to have a good speech even before she started. Great presence.
Who's watching this with me in 2020? She is amazing. A truly inspirational story!

Love every gem of wisdom she shares in this video...the struggle resonates fiercely with me, and I needed this insight right now... At 41 years, I've been through a lot and have constantly wondered when the struggle would come to an end...when I would have that breakthrough I pray so hard for...well, I don't actually pray for the breakthrough, I pray for the strength to go the distance, to get through the hard times...which I know builds character...but I'm still waiting for the breakthrough, just need to focus on creating IT for myself and trusting the struggle to yield the goodness!
*There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self.* - Ernest Hemingway -
She possesses a deep wisdom that is so rare. Absolutely agreed with and loved everything she said!! The struggles are what make us appreciate the rewards and achievements more fully than if we'd just been given what we wanted right away. And it's a universal law that, to have the things u want come into your life, u have to be willing to give so that u are open to receive.. whatever emotional energy we send out into the universe is what we inevitably attract into our reality.
Wow! This is your TEDs TALK without getting unto that podium. It’s so powerful on its own, from the first line to the last. It’s fire. It hits me really hard in a different kind of way.
I’m impressed!

Over time, that’s what I find most interesting, fascinating and admirable about knowledgeable and wise people. For the most part, they are defined by their humility.
Only fools conclude and proclaim they know it all!
Please, keep on sharing your thoughts, insights, knowledge and understanding. There are people out there, ever so willing and happy to tap into them for further development. Much appreciated!
This lecture is really unforgettable. It was so impressive to hear that success is an opportunity for those who are ready to catch it, and to prepare in advance , rather than just waiting for the opportunity to come. I also wanted to applaud the persistence of making tapes and sending own videos to broadcasting stations with the passion to achieve your dream that becoming an international journalist on CNN. And the words “trust your stuggle” was really touching. Additionally, the saying that the present hardships are become beneficial was amazing! Now, I realized that I should trust my struggle and prepare hard for the opportunity to approach me.
Trust your struggle it means working hard and never stop believing that your hard work will result in a positive outcome.
"I trusted that one day an opportunity would come and I needed to be ready."

she is living the golden rule--it is better to give than to receive
The first Ted X talk that I've listened to twice.
I don't believe in competition either which is why I only compete with myself. Yes, I've helped others succeed even at my detriment. Another lesson, success comes when opportunity meets preparation. Last lesson, give freely without expecting any reward. Life is a journey, not a means to an end.
Loved this ted talk so much! She sounds so wonderful and has really good energy!
What a thoughtful insight " Trusting your struggles"
By listening to her , it made me realise that generally we tend to wait for an interview call then start preparing; however we should prepare ourselves each day for that right opportunity.
"I don't necessarily believe in giving, just to receive." Wow, that is profound!
Amazing ,absolutely amazing.. Thank you for spreading this . You have blessed me.
I agree with you young lady, the more you give is exactily the more you receive.
Fantastic message! "Trust your struggle, trusting and knowing that your opportunity will one day come, you just have to be ready." This is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Thank you Zain.
“The more you give, the more you receive.” 👏🏾

Everybody and their momma will be down for you when you're successful , but your people are the ones down for you when you're in those trenches , that struggle . Those are the people you offer I seat to at your table at anytime . 💯

keep coming back to this since 2018
yaay...when I was just about to lose it I met women who still believe in hardwork ,struggles and working for what they want...thank you
"Opportunity meets preparation" is my takeaway from this.
That's very true, trust your struggle.
Being competitive isn't necessarily about putting your adversary down. Competition by comparing yourself to your peers is a good thing to motive you to do better while exchanging with your competitors and also learn from them.
So many good, honest, hardworking people in this world. Hope everyone finds themselves in this shuffle, and finds a place to belong. When passion meets mission, it's such a beautiful thing.
Great talk and great guidance!
So amazing, so inspiring
That's Called DRIVE & ambition with a determination to succeed... STAY FOCUSED SISTER... # YOUR DAD WOULD BE PROUD... Keep GOING!
I take "success is when opportunity meets preparation " very well said thank for your wisdom i really need it at this moment
Such an inspiring share, I will also refer to this TED talk especially in those moments when I feel like I am losing hope. Sometimes, we lose focus of what we want when we stare at failed opportunities and setbacks instead of pressing forward and preparing for the bigger opportunities that lie ahead. Awesome talk! Thanks Zain
That's how I breaths and shakes when I talk in front of people
I loved hearing her story. I'm so glad she chose to share her experiences with us. It's true that we don't always go in the direction we expected. Life is certainly a winding road, but it's a great life.
Mad props to her mother who was able to instill these great qualities. A key belief it seems the mother instilled with them is, to identify what you want, and then figure out how to get it! And they have done marvelous at following through.
very strong mindset somehow different from preconceptions, but still understandable and inspiring
I agree 100% about competition. I don't believe in it either.

After a few years, this morning I had to revisit this scene. I listened to this a few years ago and my punch line is "Opportunity meets preparation." Can't beat that.
