Hey, I have a question. I’m kind of confused when you are recommending creating a Substack profile that seems to be more useful for online creators such as UA-camrs and writers could you expand more on how this would help someone out a small business and photography? more specifically for small business owners that are trying to make consistent business I should add.
    Thanks

what do you shoot? i went through this. substack is just a platform. like instagram only way more engaged. you could find potential clients there like i do weekly if you participated. I can't give you a full coaching session about substack here in comments.
Do you have an email mailing list? or are you just using social media? Are you growing an audience around your work beyond instagram?
What value are you bringing you your audience?
are you getting clients on auto pilot?
once you have a niche, marketing is easy. if you don't have one and just shoot anything that's in front of you marketing yourself anywhere is going to be difficult.

@@stevecarty😊😊 my guy I didn’t mean to upset you. This is a simple question and I shoot editorial. I shoot editorial for fashion and weddings, but you’re simplifying this way too much. Plus, I’d like to add. I’m not really sure what your background is. obviously you’re photographer, but you seem like a marketer as well. Most photographers find out later on that you need to adapt this skill, but you seem pretty proficient in this wouldn’t be considered common knowledge for most photographers just saying.
This is not an easy gig to get into like most small businesses I think when it comes to marketing, it’s a crapshoot. The algorithm is not predictable at all and you can end up spending thousands of dollars a month and getting few paid jobs.
However, I do agree with you on the networking end. I feel there’s better results when you put yourself in networking groups or you go to networking functions. I feel like you do get real results once again this was just a question I’m trying to follow your recommendations, but I was confused when you brought up Substack because for small businesses that are not established I’m not quite sure how this would work but thanks for the reply and the perspective.

@@cjmedic1 stevecarty.com research anyone that you're watching. you shoot editorial for fashion and weddings for magazines or just regular people and thats your style?
please understand that you're asking coaching questions that are hyper specific. which is why I offer coaching. i'm sure i could help you via zoom easier that typing these comments. I can't see your work. I can't see what you're doing.
If you shoot editorial for weddings, it needs to be defined more. I'm just another shooter and even i don't understand what you do. which means even describing your niche and what you shoot needs to be more defined. clearer.
i'm an editorial potrait photographer. I've been shooting for 33yrs. I have a straight up no bs approach to photographing people that is understated, modern and honest. I make iconic images of the faces of today's generation. I shoot for magazines, and advertising clients. now when you look at my work, it makes senses.
for your market, you make a substack targeting newly engaged brides and solving all the problems they will be dealing with in relation to booking a photographer. and you make posts on how to pose for your wedding photography to make it more editorial.
and then with consistency, you become an authority in the editorial wedding space. and because you're building an audience of soon to be wedded people, they also become your customers.
      i hope this helps.

I appreciate the detailed insight. A lot of this stuff is stuff you have to find out yourself when your first starting out and you have to really do a deep dive to find this out because this information at least in the past was more industry secret stuff, this is not common knowledge, but I appreciate, the information I will continue to watch your content. You definitely bring insight and value.
