I just finished watching all ten parts of Sculpey 101 and I cannot find enough good things to say about your endeavors. Your productions are fun, funny ( love the silly sound effects) and very helpful and informative. I am a 68-year old amateur wood carver/ sculptor and I have never seen a presentation - anywhere - that was so helpful. Thank you, thank you and thank you. I would like very much to contribute financially to your efforts and I just attempted to CONTRIBUTE FINANCIALLY through Patreon, but so far I have been unable to do so. Understand that I am old and not very tech savvy but I am here for ya, Josh, if you need me. I am just not sure how to go about it. Best to ya, Paulie
Just got into sculpting after playing with my 3yr. old grandson and his playdoh. I ordered molding clay and started researching videos. I found yours and I love the way you explain things. I am a fan for life. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
I am 73 and really appreciate your attitude about aging too. There is a lot of shaming about that these days. I am just coming into my own as an artist and believe that is because of my many years of experience.
Josh, thank you for being such a good teacher and artist. I enjoy watching your videos and learning all these wonderful techniques. Can’t wait to start my own project. So awesome of you to share your knowledge with us.😊
Funny thing, I've been doing tons of hand and feet anatomy studies lately, so this fits in perfectly. I remember finding the eye sculpting video really helpful for learning to draw eyes, I'm sure I'll be able to absorb something from here too. :) Also, that wizard mount hand looks super impressive to me. Really fun idea too!
Thank you for this, as always wonderful and incredibly helpful. Sculpey is SO brittle is is almost unfit for purpose for a lot of projects, I have started stifening areas with appoxy sculpt because it is very very strong and this helps save a lot of heartache
Yep, as long as you're making a thing to sit on a shelf Sculpey is usually fine. Hopefully you've seen my Apoxie Sculpt video... ua-cam.com/video/mdWIKYU2W_E/v-deo.html
Sculpting small parts that tend to snap or break such as hands with fingers can be done with epoxy putty. It dries as hard as granite. You can even sand it, grind it, and paint it.
Man, first, I'd like to say I'm already a fan from Brazil. Second, thank you very much for posting these videos. I really appreciate your job and will to help by teaching us with these videos. Eager to see the next one. I've been learning a lot from you.
Thanks Josh. Hands are hardest for me but your tutorial has really helped me sculpt them better and in less time. Also, I really enjoyed your values ceremony video.
Man i gotta tell you, theese video's are great! I started sculpting a figure in 1/16 the other day, first time i ever did an entire figure from scratch. I know how to draw since before, so many people told med once i learn to sculpt then it will be easier than drawing in many ways. the body came out fine, but i had no idea how to make the head. I tried making the head today, failed and threw it away. Then i found your video's and because sculpting looks so easy when someone does it on video, i tried it again and the result wasn't that bad i think. I still have a lot to work on, but it wasn't a failure. So thank you very much for your video's, i took a huge step in just one day after watching the 3 first in this series, hopefully i will take more steps now.
AWESOME TUTORIALS JOSH!!!.... IS TIME TO START TOURING AND MAKING THIS CLASSES LIVE ! CONTACT THE ART CENTERS COMMUNITIES, TEACH SOME CAPSULE SCULPTURE CLASSES AND IAM SURE THAT ALL THE MONSTERS MAKERS WILL SHOW UP ! CONGRATS AGAIN.
Love your tutorials. Could you do one that shows teeth within parted lips. I've been looking around but so far nothing. Should I sculpt a skull and work around the mouth that way? Any advice is welcome!
Great question. When I do teeth I basically make dentures and bake them, then embed them in the foil armature and sculpt over them. I'll consider it for a followup. Thanks!
Would love to see classes on feet and torsos. Just a suggestion though, I can tell that this series took a lot of time and effort. But your teaching is so much better than any I've seen before, I can feel my techniques improving just by watching you haha
Hey Josh, these are great tutorials. Can you recommend any books I can purchase to supplement these tutorials? Ie polymer clay sculpting heads. Thanks!
Here's a couple I enjoy. www.amazon.com/Creating-Lifelike-Figures-Polymer-Clay/dp/0823015033/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=sculpting+book&qid=1631303698&sr=8-8 www.amazon.com/Beginners-Guide-Sculpting-Characters-Clay/dp/1909414409/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=sculpting+book&qid=1631303752&sr=8-2
Oh, the next one's really good. Sadly I only have time to create one a month. Next one will be out Nov. 1st 2016. Glad you're getting something out of it though!
Gahh! I guess I'll have to wait. ;) I'll be looking forward to it! Do you have any suggestions for other people that you feel like do good sculpey tutorials?
Great teacher, Can you sculpt a female in detail the same as in your other lessons, with no mistakes, lol. No really, do it to perfection, your work is great and I want to follow every thing you are teaching except re-doing the mistakes. I thought I was doing really well until you said their was not enough space above the lip and the nose, then shocked the hell out of me by cutting half the face away. Not good for a beginner, I nearly gave up, so now I watch the whole tutorial before I start to copy you, saves a lot of time. Keep up the good work, us beginners and more advanced need your knowledge, I have learnt more watching your tutorials than I have any other. Thanks again.
One of the hardest lessons for beginners is to approach the first several sculptures as 'just practice'. To be willing to slice and squish the parts that aren't working. Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate it!
if you do not make mistakes it means that you do not learn new things... it is good to make them at this stage so you will remember crutial points for future projects...
Hey man love the content grade a stuff. Just wondering would be a good place to start sculpting? Like what would be best thing for a newbie such as myself to start sculpting?
The best thing to start with is something you love and feel passionate about. Just set your expectations appropriately. The first time you do anything new it won't be fantastic. But the next time you try it'll be twice as good in half the time. And every time you try after that you'll get better and faster!
Love your tutorials. I paint and make gift items but have never sculpted and trying to learn how. Would you please please please consider doing the faun from the movie "Pan's Labyrinth? I have tried so many times to make it because I want to make a pendant with the faun but I have had no luck.
You give great lessons! I use to sculpt all the time and have been out of it about 10 years or so. I NEVER did heads of people that weren't abstract and you are a very good teacher, explaining every little move to make while doing it. I have watched so many people in UA-cam totally mess up a head and features, even during a UA-cam lesson, get frustrated and smash it..haha Your ear was amazing, it made the head almost pass as a very small person. I will keep watching and continue to learn from you. You have a neat personality that goes well with your lessons. Are your lessons specific to sculpy or can you do the same thing with water based Clay's as well? Would armatures be the same? Would they need to be professionally fired? Maybe you have lessons on that also? I don't want to walk by it and it shatter. Although that was a funny comment...don't want it to happen. That would make me mad and I would set it down and probably not do it again for another ten years. Thank you again for the opportunity to learn from you.
Despite the inherent fragility of Sculpey I do think it's the best medium for beginners. There's a lot more logistical issues with water based clay which is why I don't use them very often. But yes, most armatures are the same for any medium. (Except wax, but that's it's own can of worms.)
Josh Foreman Found some plain Sculpy in my sculpture box, I will give it a shot on something small. I bought these three little pieces to make owl eyes. Color wont matter to try it. Can you paint it?
Yeah, I've tried them all. I generally use Super Sculpy Firm just because the price/hardness ratio is right for me. I'm going to be doing a pretty extensive comparison in an upcoming series where I'll get into colors and other specialty polymers.
As I sit here with insomnia watching your videos all I want to do is try this! you make it look so easy! thanks for these videos! when you cut off the thumb and chin I gasped!!! lmao! you're awesome! I'm going to give it a try! wondering how the bust of your wife turned out!
But wouldn't having old hands make it harder (especially if you develop arthritis) to perform such delicate tasks? I don't see that as desirable but to each their own
Most programs let you scale the image. If it's possible to duplicate the image you want, what I do is print 5 or 6 different sizes on each sheet, that way I'm almost sure to end up with what I need.

That's wonderful! Thanks for telling me. I'm sure you'll make some keepsakes that your children and grandchildren will cherish. :)
I was especially impressed by how you see the beauty in aging, only a true artist of our day would appreciate such things.
Also drawing very thin people is not as fun as full figured subjects.
I am 73 and really appreciate your attitude about aging too. There is a lot of shaming about that these days. I am just coming into my own as an artist and believe that is because of my many years of experience.

Great tutorial, and I love that little tool with the paddle and smaller bit on the other end, it gets the most use out of me.

Just started making figures with sculpey, just wanted to say your videos are awesome. Thanks for taking the time to share your art.
Practice makes fairly adequate, love it!

I really appreciate your tutorials. You have mad skills!
Josh, thank you for this video series. You do great work and are a fantastic teacher. Thank you.
Wonderful teacher!
I've gotta hand it to you, I'm learning a lot!
Hi Josh, another great video. I like the way you explain in detail what your doing. Thanks for taking the time to do that.
Excellent Series Josh! Thanks!
great videos man , thanks for sharing with us your knoledges , good luck !!
Your tutorials are great 👌 thanks for sharing 🙏
Thank you for taking the time and effort. Well done!
"You know what they say. Practice makes barely adequate." 😂😂😂
super cool tutorials. You have skills. Thanks for sharing.
I find this tutorial quite handy!
Hey man, love your very informative videos! Also, I picked up some of those color shapers the other day, loving them! :D
Sir, you have explained each micro details very patiently.
This young man has inspired an old art school drop out!
Great tutorial. Thanks!
Thank you very cool.
Excellent! tutorial! better then a collage coarse Thank you!!
3:30 was just wondering why you didn't use armature for the fingers. Thanks for the explanation
Thanks!
Thanks for your quick reply! Dentures sound really complicated 😬. Hope you can find the time to do this tutorial.

Oh, the next one's really good. Sadly I only have time to create one a month. Next one will be out Nov. 1st 2016. Glad you're getting something out of it though!

Awesome videos thank you !!!
I'm going to sculpt a figure from a Zdzislaw Beksinski painting and it has really long fingers. Would you recommend an armature for the fingers?
I would use Cosclay. I made some very long fingers out of it here: ua-cam.com/video/UXBaULHi-5c/v-deo.html

Believe me Josh .. as a sculptor you do not want old hands! They damn well hurt 😂

I doubt I'll do anything that specific, but you can always email me photos of your work in progress and I can give you tips. breathoflifeart@gmail.com

*Amputees cry*
Sorry, had to xD
My friend is an amputee.. He lost his leg in a war. I don't understand why he would be crying though...
if they lost a hand already sculpting probably wont be something he or she is doing anyways :P
wuaaoooooo amigo que buen trabajo haces . excelente saludos desde Venezuela
Gracias. Me alegro de que te guste.

Yes, you can paint it. But I recommend starting with Super Sculpey. It's much MUCH easier to use than the white stuff.
Have you tried other brands, once especially for sculpting? They are harder, especially, Kato.
Yeah, I've tried them all. I generally use Super Sculpy Firm just because the price/hardness ratio is right for me. I'm going to be doing a pretty extensive comparison in an upcoming series where I'll get into colors and other specialty polymers.
Just would kill me to have my work break. Excellent work!
As I sit here with insomnia watching your videos all I want to do is try this! you make it look so easy! thanks for these videos! when you cut off the thumb and chin I gasped!!! lmao! you're awesome! I'm going to give it a try! wondering how the bust of your wife turned out!
How do you add the hand to the rest of the body?
I usually have a little bit of armature wire sticking out of the arm. So I just poke it on and smooth over the seam.
@@JoshForeman Cheers man! Your videos helped so much. I've now made three little sculptures each better than the one before.
But wouldn't having old hands make it harder (especially if you develop arthritis) to perform such delicate tasks? I don't see that as desirable but to each their own
My problem would be printing it to the size I need lol Not sure how to do that.
Most programs let you scale the image. If it's possible to duplicate the image you want, what I do is print 5 or 6 different sizes on each sheet, that way I'm almost sure to end up with what I need.
Thats not the thumb knuckle
Just saying XD
Still loving the videos
What the hell is that a food processor?
