  • In this scene from Pauline Viardot-Garcia's lighthearted operatic reimagining of Cinderella, Baron Pictordu (Junhan Choi) -- Cendrillon's father -- and Count Barigoule (Fran Daniel Laucerica) sing a comic duet. Barigoule enters disguised as The Prince, so Pictordu, a buffoonish social climber, fawningly sings "Your Highness pays me the honor (of a visit)". But it gradually becomes apparent that Barigoule is not who he claims, and that both nobles have more working class roots than they let on, having worked as grocers together when they were younger. While much of the piece involves vocal jabs and sparring, when the men drop their facades and find common ground, the duet ends with some hearty harmonies.
