You had me riveted as always, bringing up so many memories of my childhood. My Dad opened up savings accounts for each of us kids, taking us in one at a time. I should say, one kid each Saturday until we all had an account. He used to drop his pennies into one of those gigantic old "whiskey jugs" that most people in the 1970s were using to display those colored (dyed?) grasses with the long, feathery fronds. When the jug was full, Dad dumped the pennies on the floor, and we kids would count them into rolls. Then we divided them up amongst us and deposited them into our accounts at People's Bank. I remember being so impressed after 5 years to find out I had $200, just from saving pennies. That was a lot of money. I was wishing Dad could have seen this episode, but then it occurred to me that he might have seen it before I did...or if they don't watch UA-cam in heaven, he's still got a better view than we do down here. Way prettier than the marble and wood of the old Michigan National Bank, which as I recall was indeed magnificent.

I appreciate the photo credit for the “modern day” Fogcutter Bldg. and would like to note that the previous photo of the skeleton of the Bldg during its construction was taken by my Father, D. E. Boyd.
