Why Streaming Won't be Saved by Advertising... What Were the Studios Thinking??!!

  • So far, advertising on premium streaming services has proven to be less than anticipated. But, how could it be any other way? Did Netflix, Disney+, and Max really think that saving a couple of bucks would make people willing to watch ads? Let's look closer at this on-going challenge for Hollywood.

    Indian OTT( Over The Top ) / streaming apps are following similar strategies . Apps like Disney+Hotstar , ZEE5 , Sony Liv have multiple CableTV channels which they stream with ads for free while Premium content requires paid subscriptions .

      Ad based for free or pay for no ads seems to me the best of both worlds. Thank you for your insight.

    That's why Tubi has had success in the background being a free ad supported streamer as well as Pluto TV being a FAST streaming network. If it's free, people tolerate ads.
