I feel like a lot of commenters here watched a different video than I did. I think he was fairly transparent about him obviously having bias because of his experience and the custom nature of the clubs and thats why he had a 3rd party there who said the inconsistent nature of the contact and the numbers showed that the Artisan wedges were performing better. He was also getting 4k less spin with a higher loft with the kirkland 52* compared to the Artisan 49*. Not a good thing for wedges. For people saying its hating on the people who cant afford $1,000 for wedges, he mentions he knows that its not an accessible thing for everyone and he also said the better solution than the Kirklands would be to get used wedges that are major brands for close to the same amount of money. As someone who was a fitter for major companies and who also worked in the used club space, I would agree with that. That being said, there is nothing wrong with the Kirkland clubs if thats what you have but they will limit lower handicap players moreso than some good quality used wedges from a more established brand.
Agree with most of this outside of the used wedge option. Being a fitter myself, golfers tend to use wedges far longer than they should and the grooves wear down substantially. I believe the new grooves on the Kirkland's would outperform other used wedges, this again is assuming one is paying the same price (apples-to-apples comparison). However, the moral of the story is to consider going through a wedge fitting to find out what works best.
@ashtonoppermangolf for sure on some used wedges having worn grooves but going to the used section of a golf galaxy or pga superstore, opposed to online, you can make sure the used wedge you're getting is in good shape but yes, definitely something you need to pay close attention to.
The Costco wedges are giving just what they were built for. Weekend golfer 15 to 28 handicap or new golfer. Perfectly marketed at a place where you but bulk toilet paper and ketchup. I am an 18 handicap, 67 years old and I own the Kirkland putter. I love it. My game doesn't justify a 600.00 Scottie Cameron putter. The guy who carries that putter carries personalized 1000.00 wedges. I really enjoy the channel.
The Kirklands are 10 percent the cost and play 90 plus percent as well Artisan clubs(which are fully customized to your swing). The three reasons I could think of to get the Artisan's would be to support American manufacturing, if your game is at the collegiate level or better, or you just like the idea of nice looking clubs.
You could arguably get kirklands loft, lie adjusted and ground for you, getting that last 10 percent. If you already have the shafts from your wedges, your all the way there.
why would I care about supporting American manufacturing? if the kirklands and artisan are comparable, then yes I would go for the local maker. if i am on a budget then kirkland would be my choice. i would choose artisan if I can afford it and it will improve my score.
Interesting. I bought some of the original Kirkland wedges (just for fun) and they spin like crazy. I tested them against Vokey's (and a few others) and they (Kirks) were spinning significantly more. My only real complaint(s) are the grips feel too thin, and the they are super shiny, so they can blind you on a sunny day. But performance was as good or better than the more expensive brands, and they feel fine. Also, pretty sure Vokey's are not forged 🤔 I kind think you talked yourself (likely subconsciously) into the result you found. You definitely seemed to swing the expensive clubs with more speed and confidence.
Kirkland are great. My buddy has them and I think they’ll work as well as any non fitted wedge for you. If I was new to golf or a budget I’d get the Kirkland any day!
@@TheEdiaz91 I previously played vokey SM9 52/56 and RTX zipcore's 52/56/60 prior to that. Got the gen 2 Kirkland wedges (this years model) after trying a few rounds with last years gen 1 kirklands and for the price, they are absolutely unbelievable. I think a lot of it comes down to preference, but for the price of 3 wedges and their quality - it's unbeatable.
Biggest differences between the two are going to be sole grind and tolerances. Artisan will custom grind the soles for your specific swing pattern and the turf conditions you play in most, and the wedges will be spot-on in terms of specs and weighting. The Kirklands are just cast blanks with generic, wider soles and no specific grind. Fine for most casual players, but it's amazing how much difference the right sole grind can make in terms of contact, where you contact it on the face, and getting through the sand/turf.
We had a set of the Kirkland wedges and a putter donated to my work and the boss let me scoop them. I take them out as my pitch and putt set and they work well enough. In a blind shootout I think most people would have a difficult time distinguishing the Kirklands from Vokey, Cleveland whatever etc. It's only the horrendous Kirkland branding that tips them off as being "cheaper" clubs.
Kirkland wedges are very light, if they use s400 shafts, I bet you they will perform more like the $1000 clubs on most swings. But the custom wedges looks awesome! I am sure the bounce and grind is better for chipping around the green.
Definitely looks and sounds like you all talked yourself into the Artison wedges, definitely not worth 3 and half times the price. Nice wedges but kind of ridiculous considering all the custom shops out there.

So the concussion that I'm seeing is, expensive clubs won't make a person a better ball striker. The Kirklands perform equal to or better than some big name clubs.
I wonder how well the Kirklands would perform with a better shaft. Dynamic Gold S300s or even Apollo shafts are not very expensive and reshafting might solve some of the contact issues you were having and improve the swing feel. Those stock shafts are probably meant for a slower swing speed player. I personally struggle with a lot of off the rack wedges because they are too light and whippy. As a result, the release is hard to control and contact is inconsistent. Stiffer, heavier wedges are just more consistent. A lot of tour players have heavier wedges as well. Thankfully, reshafting irons / wedges with steel shafts is relatively easy to do. Alternatively, you could partner with a local custom club maker to reshaft them, get the flex profile, total weight, length, lie, and swing weight to be similar to the more expensive wedges, then retest. I highly doubt you would end up spending $900 to refit those wedge heads. Not to be that guy but to totally be that guy there's a fundamental misunderstanding in the difference between forged and cast clubs here. Same steel composition with the same heat treatment 99% of people won't notice the difference. The difference people claim there is between forged and cast in terms of feel is a fallacy of perception of price and "quality". High end forged clubs will "out perform" lower end cast because the high end starts with a very homogenous billet of good steel and will have countless hours of work put into them. Compare that to a cheaper cast club that may not have the best steel and just run through an assembly line to get as many out the door as possible. It just comes down to do you want to sell a little for a lot or sell a lot for a little. Like people have been saying in the comments Vokeys aren't forged but people think they're forged because of the price, perception, and reputation. Also scientifically speaking there is no measurable difference between raw face and coated face wedges.
Only minutes in and I can tell this vid is CAP. of course you have a lower loft it’s gonna go further. Ofcourse if the loft is higher you’ll have a deeper divot. I don’t own Kirkland but there is NO WAY your clubs are 10X better.

You forgot "repeatability" lol 😂
Mate just love all your vids. I love your vibe man! Love your work brother ✌️👊
Man I love your content but trying to sell people on 1000 dollar wedges is crazy I play vokey wedges but I use the Kirkland irons I’m a 15 handicap and let me tell you they work just as good as regular “expensive” irons it’s the player not the club
Take the Costco, get it bent and put your shafts into it and then see the difference!!
Those cast heads will break at the hosel
@@thomastrain7311 only if you need +/- 2° of bend. Cast are still able to be bent! it's metal, not glass :)
QR Code not working? Just linking to website but no mention of a contest? Artisan wedges looks amazing, but damn, what a price. I'll prob pass :p
Vokeys aren’t forged
Man this guy is easily my least favorite YT golf personality.
Never gave the k sigs a chance
Not related to the video but what balls is Erik using ??
He says “it looks like you swung faster” bro YOURE RIGHT NEXT TO THE MONITOR !!!!
Only minutes in and I can tell this vid is CAP. of course you have a lower loft it’s gonna go further. Ofcourse if the loft is higher you’ll have a deeper divot. I don’t own Kirkland but there is NO WAY your clubs are 10X better.
It's wild. The guy he is with acts shocked that a club that's 3* stronger is launching a little lower and going farther.
This is allllll for his app sponsors. Good players can play anything.
never been paid by Artisan nor are they a sponsor
@@RandomGolfClubFilms apologies. Suppose it’s only LAB, Uneekor, Caddy Talk, Ecco, Abercrombie… good on you, make that $.
I’ll use the kirkland wedges I think I can beat you
Literally unwatchable because of the lesson being given so loudly in the background
What about the giveaway?
Vokey is not FORGED. And I remember when you started. Now it’s beneath you to play a brand like Kirkland. A have an old friend that was on Tour. Grew up poor. Very poor. He once said he would have played with anything you would have given him. No fitting available. I think if your game holds up, it holds up. Artisian will not win you majors. 😂
Vokeys aren’t forged 😂
Vokey wedges are cast. Most wedges are cast.
Erik. You. Are. the . Best. Golf. Player.
95% of golfers should be using a cavity back wedge. 99% can game the Kirkland and still chunk it the same.
Those Artisan clubs are sexy looking.
Oh damn, didn't realize this was going to be a hit job.... I get the support the industry take, but didn't feel objective.
