The Nokota horse is a wild and semi-wild horse breed native to the barren lands of southwestern North Dakota in the United States.
Nokoty are half-breed horses, but they demonstrate the agility and speed characteristic of thoroughbred breeds. They have muscular necks and backs, a powerful withers, thick winter fur and a low-set tail. Many have already managed to appreciate this lively, playful and intelligent breed of unique origin, which is certainly worth attention.
Nokota is a breed of saddle horse that descends from the free herds of the Badlands in Little Missouri, located in the southwest of North Dakota, USA. After the arrival of immigrants at the end of the 19th century, the population of Nokotas horses decreased significantly during the 20th century, and the last of them were locked in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. In the 1980s, some of these horses were sold at auction, and the Koontz brothers mobilized to save the breed and get the breed recognized. Nokota is now supported by various associations.
These horses are highly intelligent, mobile, and have a good ability to learn.
Some nokotas can have special gaits, such as walking or Indian shuffling.
