You think these kids represent most Brits? Time to get a passport and expand those horizons. The people he interviews represent 4.2% of the UK's population and most are Black kids from underprivileged backgrounds, many of whom at their age, like many other Brits of all ages, have no interest in the Royal family. Believe it or not many British people are not Royalists.

In the UK it is NOT valued to be overly promoting yourself or overly loud. It is seen as being rude and arrogant. One of the MAIN values in UK society is self deprication, self critiscism and sarcasm. While at times that can feel negative, it is just a totally different way of navigating the world to US culture, everything is much more nuanced and IMPLIED, not OVERT. For us it feels as if Americans are often stating the obvious with the way they communicate. To CONSTANTLY be saying things like awesome and I appreciate it etc....feels too much for British people, and pretty annoying! ;-) It is just a cultural difference and I think it is also why people might be saying Americans can appear dumber.
