I lived in Greensboro for 30 years. No excitement and very slow i.e. the pace, the way people talk. Jobs are mostly retail and restaurants and Wal-Mart. If you like the slower pace of life and the quietness, then Greensboro is Ok. You like excitement and entertainment and a better place to live out your dreams, then a bigger city is more for you.
I've lived in GSO for 12 years and have never experienced any crime, but the related issue is the slow response of law enforcement for just about anything other than traffic accidents.
The fine arts center is great. I took pottery there too. Very inexpensive. I live in Charlotte now because i grew up in Greensboro and call it Greensboring, but I do miss the reasonably priced pottery classes.
We've got amazing outdoor spaces here! The crime is odd to me - I don't understand it -- it's such a great town. Luckily it tends to be localized to one area
@@missionaries7575 For some reason we do have a higher crime rate per capita - but if you go to crimemapping.org then you can see where it is localized. I dislike that this town gets a bad wrap about this - because it's a fab place and I don't see these things happen.
Looking at moving down to the Greensboro area. I’m a single, 22 year old male. Does Greensboro have a good night life atmosphere or would you recommend a different surrounding city? I look forward to your response and hopefully will be in contact with you about purchasing a home!
I hope you do move here! There is a night life here - but nothing compared to RD or Charlotte. We're a much smaller city. But there are clubs, bars, etc. I'm also a 46 yo mom that's tired and that's not my scene anymore--unless it's bumping at 2:00 in the afternoon - so I can be in bed by 9 🤷♀🤣
I loved your effects of the snow, ice, and power outage! We live in Linn County, Iowa and our property tax rate is 1.84%! Yuck. Would like to live somewhere else for a change.
Lived in Greensboro two separate times over the last 5 years. It's been fine overall but don't see myself staying long-term anymore like I once did. Definitely appreciate the green spaces. My biggest negatives are it feels way too spread out, there doesn't seem like a lot of nice places to live for the money anymore, for being the third biggest city in NC it doesn't feel like there are a ton of opportunity compared to other cities, and as soon as you get outside of the established parts of NC many small town Southerners have not been friendly when they find out you're from a northern state.
I hear what you are saying--like most cities, the houses in the city limits cost more and then when you are out, they are more affordable. I don't like that people aren't nice to you because you're from the north. I get that sometimes--but not often. I've been here 25 years and I'm not going anywhere 🤣

Hello, I’m actually looking to move to Greensboro within the next two months. Would love to set up a time to talk to you. We are looking to purchase a house and just looking for the best neighborhoods for me and my family.
How is the fine art (specifically drawing/painting) scene currently there? I'm considering moving there in the future. Obviously, I don't expect as much as a bigger city. But, I'd like to move to an area that still has a growing art community. And I know the Triad population in general is growing.
It's definitely growing here! And I'd say for sure that we have a big art scene. Community Arts Center downtown, theaters, the colleges here - there is a lot to offer for sure!

Hi, I am interviewing for a position in Greensboro.. where would be the best area to live in as a single woman in the 60s club? Also.. is there a nightlife there?
Oh this is so exciting! What time of neighborhood are you looking for? Quiet and in the country, or in the city? There are bars and nightclubs downtown in Greensboro. And other bars and restaurants that aren't downtown as well. Plenty to chose from!
I'm a single woman in my 60's and live in the 27408 zip code. Have been here 12 years, nice neighborhood, near everything. Downtown nightlife is good, some amazing restaurants too, though most close at 10pm!?!
No aggressive driving? She's really wrong on that one. Crime? Yeah, certain sections are bad, but a lot of "good" areas have really bad areas right next to them. You likely have to go out to the suburbs to avoid it. Another topic she avoids is car taxes. Your car is considered property and is taxed. Like most taxes, you pay more if you are in the city limits. Another topic to consider is the pollen here is really, really bad. It's not a place for you if you struggle badly with allergies. It's not an awful place to live, don't get me wrong, but know what you are getting if you move here.
You are 100% right on the car taxes! My husband restores car and what we pay each year is insane! The pollen is not ideal - especially if you suffer from allergies. I don't live far from downtown - and I do know there is crime - but it is everywhere. And aggressive driving is subjective. I'm from Baltimore/Washington area - it's not aggressive here compared to there.

Don't know what Greensboro you are thinking of, but the driving there is insane. The state is 6th worst for driving in the country. Crime is related to poverty usually, Greensboro has lots of very poor people. Public transport in the city sucks, and it definitely can support more but NIMBYs keep it bad. Taxes aren't bad, which part of why crime and transportation sucks. The weather is standard fare for the south and people can't do winter driving anywhere south of PA. The power goes out on a whim it seems, not as bad as Roxboro. All seasons, with short as can be fall leaf change. Affordability varies by area of Greensboro, since it is a city. Pointing out the touristy places you are close do doesn't make the city much more attractive. Local sports are a good thing. There are good cultural attractions in Greensboro. There are lots of good parks. Host seems to never hit the interstates or major roads since she says traffic is slow and there isn't much of it.
We can agree and disagree! I didn't know about it being the 6th worst driving in the country - I'll have to look into this. Crime everywhere is related to poverty, sadly enough.
