I've done that route dozens of times when I lived in Alberta. The biggest issue I found with campers/trailers on that route, is the amount of fine dust that gets sucked into your unit. You need an air tight unit or you need to seal vents and the HVAC.
Worked in the oil patch and have driven the trunk road from Grande Prairie to Sundre. Tourists miss lots by missing this road, safe travels! I live in Red Deer
As someone who grew up in Caroline it's funny hearing the trunk road described as remote lol. I know this area like the back of my hand, awesome seeing someone get excited about it. 17:47 on a grade 6 school trip we randomly decided to climb that peak in the background and at the top there should still be a note which we cleverly wrote "Caroline Mountain". I remember we were all wearing skateboarding shoes and it was not easy lmao
My Wife and I just spent 3 days at km 12 by the bridge crossing the river.
Great spot.
Kevin , you actually drove by our camper. We took a drive west on the David Thompson Hyw. the morning the RCMP was setting up for the training exercise. Lol.
Beautiful video you have captured so many gorgeous images and shared them with us. Thank you.
One word “ BEAUTIFUL “” I love it. Your videos are soooo relaxing. The music I love too. Thank you. Take care
Great views brother. Your living my dream! Safe travels and hope to see more!
Thank you so much!! I am a summer traveler with my Pup. I am currently in Grande Prairie and recently found the forestry truck road and have already traveled and explored from Grande Prairie to Grande Cache. Its actually only paved for the the first 10km then all gravel to GC. At the end of Aug I am doing to full trip from start to finish!! Cant wait to see what this beautiful province has to offer us BackCountry Folk!!
Spent a lot of my childhood fly fishing along the north/south ram river with my dad. This brought back some good memories. Thank you. I love nordegg.
12:15 I love Ram falls! The whole area is beautiful! Great video, glad I found the channel!
Been up and down that road dozens of times over the decades. Nice stretch. Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video. Love the scenery, music and laid back content.
It's clear howuch work you've put into these.
Keep it up!
It
I lived in rocky for 4 years and traveled the trunk road lots to fish ! Was a nice watch to bring me back , cheers!
I’ve been up and down that rd as a kid in the 70’s. it’s still the same. Hard to believe.
This is my stomping grounds, born and raised in this country & I’d never go live anywhere else, love Alberta too much!
Great drive. Done it lots and camped along the way. Enjoy this beautiful province.
Sweeeeeeeeet. I'm head that way in my car sometime. I live in Rocky Mountain House. Not far from me. Love the vid man
Been up and down every road and goat trail from Red Deer to The park. Worked in Nordegg on the rigs for years and wifes family fished every creek west of Rocky. You should call Pather River Adventures and book yourself a spot in their campsite. Book a ride up to Top camp on horseback -you won't regret it. Take a tour 8km west of Sundre, head south 55km to the T , turn left and follow to the blue bridge. Left across the bridge and right onto the Panther Main road. At km6 is panther River Adventures. You can keep going on the Panther River Main to KM 25 which is pretty much the Banff National park boundary...Oh yeah, take your gold pan and hot every creek you see !
I always enjoy driving the Forestry Trunk Road from Edson to Nordegg when out for work. Nice way to ease back into civilization
We go camping, quadding, hunting out there every year. We have a similar rig. 2003 dodge diesel and old northern lite. Nice out there.
Kevin, Thanks for the GREAT video!
Mabey we will cross paths out there as I plan on headed out at the end of the month....great videos thanks for sharing livin my dream...
Our family travelled the forestry road from Hinton all the way down to Calgary. Nordegg was interesting and the wild horses…and driving through the cattle ranging. I’m not a huge fan of the gravel roads but the scenery can’t be beat.
Hi from Australia love the music you play and the places are just gorgeous keep up the great adventures Kevin xx
Kevin! I am really enjoying your videos! Keep up the great work ❤ Always looking forward to the next one you put out 😊
Beautiful Country. Thanks for
My wife and I spend a week early June and a week in September every year. Fishing, camping, tons of wildlife. Even a 50 yard view of grizzly passing by on a hike.
We spend every moment we can in that area!! Wicked spots heading north also!!
Gotta love the FTR 40. My Forester feels right at home on it.
I've flown into the Ram Falls airstrip they have there. Decently maintained with amazing country
I talked to a friend who said her and her dad had flown in there as well! sounds really cool!
I've always wanted to do this! I drove that road a couple winters ago to do some hikes and I had no idea it went all the way to Nordegg!
Another great video. 😊
My favourite gravel road in Alberta! I know of a pretty awesome random camping spot just north of Coleman that I like to get to at least once a year.
I'm headed out next weekend for a month to the west koots, I might take that route on my way back north.
Good job Kevin.
Hope you get to make it to the states soon I live on Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan it’s really beautiful here like where you are from definitely worth checking out!
Great road to drive. Always lots of boondocking sites. Ram Falls never seems to have very many people camping there whenever I have been thru. Like it up the Hummingbird road
I live in Cochrane and take the trunk40 around here all the time, but I haven’t ventured North to Nordegg. Thanks for filming the route.
What a Beautiful Location Brother
I’ve been on that road several times and have had some really crazy experiences 😄✌️
You are living my dream!
I drove this road 2 weeks ago with a jetta tdi, hauling a 9x5 mini camper and two bikes
That little creek is the North Ram great fishing
Nice drive on the trunk road. Better condition than the 70's.
Recommend the Dempster Highway if you want remote. Best by motorcycle
Definitely bear country!
A little trick to keeping dust of your camper. Turn your bathroom fan to suck air in. If your fan doesn’t do it I would recommend changing your fan to a reversible one.
This ^. Close everything else up and let the fan pressurize the unit.
Great video 👏
Took my daughter down that forestry road 2 weeks ago so we could go horseback riding. Between Nordegg and the Ya Ha Tinda Ranch we saw 2 herds of big horn sheep, 4 herds of wild horses, 1 black bear and a herd of elk 💝😎
Go riding at Diamond J ranch, right before Big Horn falls and Ya Ha Tinda. The owner, Janice is fantastic! Lots of public camping around, waterfalls and the trail ride was wonderful 💖
It is truly an awesome area! I see so many wild horses in the area it’s unreal, love showing friends that have never seen horses in the wild!
I've hunted that area for 25+ years. Beautiful country.
@@BionicOutdoorsMan It depends were you are exactly along that stretch of the FTR. There are many different boundary districts and common names for those areas. You could be in Big Horn or close to Banff National Park or Kanaskis. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_Highway_734
It's good hunting, and fishing. Lots of wildlife and predators. Alot more predators making a comeback since the 90s. Makes sense, as pretty much every predator was hunted with extreme prejudice since the late 1800s to the early 1980s by trappers, ranchers, farmers, and homesteaders.
@@PondstompingAdventures It should also be noted that hunting and fishing pays for all of the parks and rec areas in Canada and as a land owner with livestock I have seen slight increases in predators over the last 20 years. These numbers go up and down cyclically like the temp of the earth.
@89fingerslouieXRP yes, very true. Cycles are becoming more stable. Before the 90s, you would be hard pressed to find or see many big predators. They play a vital role, even when unfortunately they target livestock on occasion. Herded cattle for 2.5 years back in my 20s. Good humble work, small jingle in the pants for the weekend, back when things were cheap. Some landowners land I've hunted on specifically said not shoot the wolves as they keep the cougars and bears out of their area. Some have found that they only lose a calf or cow if it was injured or sick. More often, they are more inclined to prey on the deer in the area, then move on. Every landowner situation and area is unique, and their wishes should be respected. I've personally never had an issue with wolves, been within 20 yards of them, no issue. Even a group of 7 just looked and left. The alpha followed beside about 50 yards away. As soon as I was 200 yards from where I spotted them, he or she left to join the others. Beautiful, but must be respected. Cougars, on the other hand, make me edgy. I can't really trust them much. As humans are just 2 legged, slow-moving deer to them. I'll observe them with care and from a great distance if I come across one.
Aghhh I love hummingbird so much!
Hey I think I just saw your rig a few weeks ago I was up camping in Rocky Mountain house and I had a hockey camp at slyvan lake sweet rig man keep it up 😎😎
Lost 3 hubcaps on that road! Such a good drive though. I want to go out camping on the eastern slopes one of these days.
Ram River falls..nice
Installed 2 fire place...back in the 80,s SmallBoy Camp...awesome
You need to Adopt you a Dog. He will be your Best Friend on the Road. Love your Channel and I just Subscribed. Good Luck Buddy on your Travels. Stay Safe
I used to rip this road in a cts. Broke the front springs twice. I still go fishing on old man river on the southern bit of it.
Hi Kevin, wow absolutely stunning waterfall, thank you for taking me down there, definitely couldn't of done that in my wheelchair ❤.
I to fell asleep watching your video had a stressful weekend with my Mom, she's been throwing out all of dads stuff.
So been going through it all before donating it, very stressful hence me falling asleep.
Beautiful beach area are you going for a paddle ???
Take care mate X X X
I hunt that area. Absolutely gorgeous out there. ❤
I've traveled trunk road from Grand Prairie to Cochrane mostly for work sometimes for fun
Think we may have seen you out in sundre last weekend!
Rough roard, but ma. the scenery!
Pepper Lake is close and Hummingbird creek is very close as well.
Dude I did that road with a 32’ trailer and a 2012 mega cab Ram lol what an idiot I was!
I hope to see you and FF in a hiking vid soon.
One big improvement you could make on your vids is to show a full screen map of your position and planned route....brings it all together ! " Where's Waldo" Ha Ha.....
Kevin from a old camper to a younger camper , leave your roof vent open when driving on dusty gravel roads you will find that you don't get a lot of dust build up inside your rig .
My dad litterly just mentioned this to me also! I’m going to give it a try! Thank you!
Seems like on a long trip those steps might beat the heck out of the portion below your camper door, does anything hold it against the camper once it's stowed? Looks like it's free to swivel and smack the camper. Stoked to follow on the adventure, cheers!
so many people camp those areas... never alone
I worked up there back in the 90's
I camp at economy lake campsite at forestry trunk road all the time
You ended up near calgay, i promise you will regret it! 😂 come to okanagan british columbia, its something you wont regret.
Alberta is a beautiful place. But so is the rest of Canada. I work in the oilfield services. I traveled more back roads than you could imagine. I always tell people you need to get off the black top to really see the beauty. And personally i prefer off road i find it much safer than hi way travel.
Nice
306 is my favorite number. plus im from calgary
Looks like a nice easy road eh.
Cochran is the best, whiprus best dirt biking. Awesome camping in the trans alta range rode in the mountains or hunter vally.
The song in the video is so nice, can you tell me which singer sang it
good luck on your new life just subscribed to help you out don't get discouraged you are living a life MANY of us want to
Can you change the aperture on that camera? Is blurring everything behind you… not offence but the view it’s amazing.
Thanks
I used to live in Nordegg but now I live in Rocky. Your name in German means forest. Wald=forest.
Are you coming south? Before Rocky Mountain house
Keep trucking box car willy
Yeah I'd pick the river over privacy nest, no better white sound than the river n its beauty. 🍻
Did you camp up Hummingbird Creek?
How is the condition of the gravel? Is there a lot of washboard? My C Class model doesn’t like too much vibration. I’m fine to slow down over rough spots.
It can depend I find the road was super smooth the more north you get, a little before and after sundre going south was prob the worst
Next time you’re in Rocky Mountain House look me up. I’ll fill your propane at no cost and tell you of a few places to check out.
Are u gonna hit baseline mountain for MTB
Keep the dust out
You look like David Wald
Hi Do you interested in adding some LED upgrade to your rig? We hope to do some sponsorship with you!
It's a nice road, not as bad as many years ago. Been up and down it, even weekly sometimes, for the last 40 plus years. Corkscrew mountain, can make your ass pucker up and want to cling to the side of the mountain at times. Not a good road for 2 vehicles to be passing each other in some places. One mistake and kiss your ass goodbye.
What is the title of your music
Where is the dust coming into the camper?
From what I can tell majority is at the door, the seals on it are 23 years old lol
I used to travel up that road (80's) in my Chevy Chevette! No phone, no gps, no problem. 😂
Lol. I did it in my 2004 Jetta Tdi. But have also seen it turn to quagmire where big diesel trucks on 35’s are burrowing through in 4x4 with the hammer down, rolling coal.
