Forgive my ignorance but how do you separate your cards and decide what to sleeve? I haven’t collected cards since the early 00s and looking to get back into it. Obviously hold onto promising rookies but the different parallels and such have me confused and not really sure what to put away for safe keeping.

There are so many parallels. If it’s not a star or a star rookie, just treat it like a common base card.
