- See how the lavafields of Natthagi look like these days. Last time hot lava had been flowing here was September 2021. 4K 60 fps. #Fagradalsfjall #Iceland
I remember hearing “Don’t walk on the lava! Hot! Sharp! Fragile! So, what is the difference here? Thx for your fine work. Many videos are beautiful images, but yours also feel more real, like we are there.
Now its hard, 3 years passed...wherever it was fragile it cracked, collapsed through weathering. And of course we dont walk anywhere, only where the lava layer is not thick, like 1-2 m. Of course its still can be sharp and one needs to be careful.
Wow they could do their next moon walk and shoot right there
I surprised people THERE..
Thought it would be deadly still with dangerous gases.. see loads of sulphur fumeroloes 😬
You wouldn't get me on there, ha ha!! It's still hot...yikes!! Interesting though. :)
Thank you Roman. this is fascinating .
Looks like a great place for camping! At least you wouldn't freeze to death in your tent like elsewhere in Iceland... lol
3:35 You are wrong, Roman! The heat is less dangerous but the surface itself is danerous. One has to step very carefully over the plates for they can be too thin to hold your weight and the edges of the lava are very sharp and cut a leg easy when breaking in a hollow area. 🤕😨
That is insane, amazing to walk on so soon. Looks eerie.
Thank you for sharing this.
😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thank you ❤ 😊
Hi Roman, how much in advance do people book your day tours? I have a free day in Reykjavik on Sunday September 1st...but we have no idea what the volcano will be doing at that time. I would like to wait until the last minute minute to decide what I can do. Thanks!
I dont drive this tour often (maybe 3 - 4 times a month)...we have dozens of driver-guides...So its unlikely you will hit me on this tour:) But u r welcome of course. It can be booked even hours before via bustraveliceland.is
Thanks!@@IcelandExplorer
50 million years ago,they say....
But there is magma under the layers of moon magma,Just none active?🤔
Oh please take care! How do you go to Nátthagi - I thought the road was closed because of closeness to Grindavik?
А само извержение закончилось???
Are there any dangerous fumes coming from this area?
🤣🤣...The Moon. Believe it or not they did find Volcanoes on the moon.
Great Roman and Thank you! Is it allowed to walk on the lava?
Thank you!
Wow great look at the lava field I thought it was summer in iceland everybody seems to be dressed for winter take care
Temps rarely go above +15 C in Iceland in summer...one needs to wear jacket most of the year. We r next to Arctic Circle, look on the map
Spectacular!
It's not advisable to have rubber bottom shoes or shoes with steel inserts you want to have a leather soul.
Stationed at Naval Air Station Keflavik during1979-80. Basically hiking in Iceland was death of a thousand cuts to hiking boot soles. Replaced the Goodyear soles after I returned to USA. Leather all over the boot was scratched up. Also ripped up jeans and gaiters. Hiking in Iceland was incredible!
Thankyou
Wow!!
Should take along a thermometer to check how hot the vents are.
It's not as active or hot out there as it appears. The lava is 3 years old now and the heat is down deep. The vapor isn't volcanic gas or smoke. It rained, the water worked its way down thru all the cracks. When it finally reaches a hot zone it turns to steam and makes the vapor clouds. At most the vapor would come out at 100C and cool rapidly, the lava at the surface around the "vent" is probably barely warm.
Hi Roman, where did you say the lava field is 80m thick?
In Meradalir
@IcelandExplorer Thanks Roman... 😊 👍
Iceland might be good for sulfur yet in the future when i see what is there
Greetings 👋
Steaming 😮 is that safe ? ❔️
It's just steam from heat, afyer rsin, like a steaming pot on the oven
So how hot are your feet? Do the soles of your shoes melt?
nice sulfuric acid formation
Parece-me carvão mineral.......
Sitting here I would say it`s not really safe walking on that not-so-old lava field but, I`m sure if I was there I`d be stepping through it too. With people around, if you got stuck or injured someone would help. Otherwise you may not want to go it alone.
It's far more solid than you might think. The thin areas of crust caved in soon after the lava stopped. Always possible to get hurt but generally safe to walk on it in that area, with caution.
Is this where the Blue Lagoon used to be?
No the Blue Lagoon is where it always has been. It's located on the other side of this valley, quite a distance away.
