My old man is mechanic by trade. The weekends i spent in the garage with him rebuilding my first car still shine as some of the brightest of my teenage years. Problem is being a young buck you don't realise how much it meant till years later.
Yea i agree my old man wasn't even a mechanic but he helped me engine swap my 2nd car after i wrote off the 1st, was a memorable time. That i only later realise is what i want to do my my kids now , big project good times :)
This is the episode I’ve been waiting for lol... This is the right way to learn about the car you’ll be driving. Make him do everything, with explanation and advice. He might roll his eyes now, but down the line he’ll understand. Listen to the old man, kid. He’s the Yoda.
Too right, it's probably the best way to teach some mechanical sympathy too, learning how much work's involved in replacing parts that they'll likely bugger up if they drive like idiots.
@@mikeysgarage3697 I first learnt some mechanical sympathy from my Dad showing me the invoice for the clutch replacement on our family car, to be fair the clutch had done ~150,000km of service plus taught two kids how to drive so it was due. My sympathy has only grown since then, considering I've done all my own car maintenance and repairs for nearly 20 years now that shouldn't surprise anyone.
It's a double whammy: take them in the workshop and patiently teach them something that gives them a ton of self esteem. Then they won't feel so broken inside that drugs seem like a good idea :P
Yup, always been into cars and now my car takes all my money.

I did my trade along side my Dad and loved every minute , Sadly he passed away in my 3rd year working with him . Enjoy every moment you have because you never know when it might end .
Making memories! That's what good parents do for their kids. Well done Al, Woody and Groms. I remember working on cars with my dad who was a fitter and turner for 52 years. He arrived as an immigrant from Italy to this wonderful country ours. His passion was Moto Guzzi, Alfa Romeos and Lancias. We built a few cars and engines together. My first a heavily modified 2.6 litre turbo Sigma and the second a full house 302 Windsor converted TE Cortina. He's no longer with us, rest his soul, and the cars are long gone. The beautiful memories remain of weekends spent with him. Even the memories of messing things up and he would call me a "chooch" which means donkey in Italian. Good times! Love your work gentlemen!
I was so happy to see kickflip wear on the kid's shoes! Cant go wrong if you have a kid that's willing to stick through the process of learning tricks on a skateboard!
I learnt my skills from fellow car club members after I blew my motor 6 months into my P's 36 yrs ago... sadly my father was a mechanical idiot. I made damn sure my son knows his spanners and encouraged him to keep at it... Now he is a professional welder and teaches me.... proud dad here
Everyone wishes they had a mechanic like Yoda not solely for the money but for the principle and passing down the knowledge. It’s how the trades should be. Keep doin what ya doin! 🤙
Imagine the sprog rolling up to maccas with that scratched rim an his P plates. "I didn't kerb the rim, I dropped it on the floor of the workshop, honest"
13:49 Ty for lifting with your legs and not you back! I seen way too many videos of people working on cars and not lifting the way you guys just did. Pro lift right there!
So cool. I Remember splitting knuckles open with my Dad on an R17 Renault Gordini when i was little. This is something you never forget. I saw some big smiles on Al's face watching the young'n work, took me back to the good times! What a cool dad Al is. To big thumbs up on this one boys.

Not going to lie, I had to find a quiet corner to proudly sob in for a little bit when my eldest son started taking interest in the same stuff as me. This brings back emotions..
This is what makes me worries with your kids, not some stupid Instagram story from someone you don’t know. Well done. Just sold a MY06 Spec b manual. Ripper car. Loved AWD helis in the wet. Lol
These young fellas have a pretty good attitudes. You want to lean how to weld? Nice positive yes. Anyone wants to teach you a practical skills, take them up on they're offer every time.

This is officially the best series to date. I'm sorry boys, you'll never top the P plater build. This is just beyond wholesome and a barrel of fun to watch!
My gandpa on my mom's side was a mechanic for 35+ years before he retired. Somewhere there are photos of me in a diaper hanging over the side of of the engine on his Model T he was restoring "helping" work on it. He taught me so much about tools and let me build my own things when I would visit. Only reason I did not become a mechanic was because I hated cleaning under my fingernails when I was a wee tyke.
Very cool, I taught all my kids how to change oil, oil filter, sparkplugs, fluids and brake pads and they have run with it from there. Very quickly realised how easy it is and how much money they saved doing it themselves.
My son is 14 months old and I've been investing way too much thought as to what his first car will be. Doing this with him in the future will be so rad can't wait!
Good on ya for putting the boy in and under his car's moving bits. Neither my dad nor myself are mechanics by trade, but I frequently watched him repair the family vehicles on Saturdays to save a few bucks, and when I finally picked up a wrench and started working on my own vehicles for the same reasons, it all fell into place. Dad is getting up there now, but I still use his garage as a workspace sometimes, and still ask him for advice on things I haven't done before. Expect your boy will do the same.
Why did i imagine Al's wee fella would just look like a mini version of him? Bald and all? Laughed pretty hard watching that intro, well done coming up with it boys
shout out to the young Gromit with the brush cleaning up. think he making good for when its his time . wish my dad had the means to do something like this. enjoy the time guys . memory's

Good job getting the kid out there the put in the effort. Definitely teach them what it takes to do something. That way, they value what they have more.
You're a great Dad Al. I remember watching my Dad changing a piston & liner in a 1961 Standard Vanguard in the back shed in 1966 in Oxley, Brisbane where I grew up. He traded it later on a brand new Falcon 500 XR S/Wag with the big 200 super pursuit 6 cyl column auto. Great memories watching you doing a similar thing. Billy J..... Q'ld... OZ.

wholesome video is wholesome
100%. love seeing fathers get their kids into cars. Can't wait to do the same!
