Animator here, real answer : the 80's and 90's style was not a style per se, more like a collection of techniques that retroactively came together as an aesthetic. Those techniques were very advanced and had the advantage of decades and decades of advancements in the field. Unfortunately, the switch to digital coloring in the 00's made it impossible to transfer this knowledge to the new format but since it was so cheap the studios made the switch anyway, even if in comparison the new productions looked significantly worse. Nowadays we're getting on a new level of digital and postproduction that allows new projects to look way better than in the early odds, but all the techniques we used in cell animation is basically lost, with very few people remembering how to execute the properly and even less materials to do so.
@@elegantcat1496 Damn, thats a shame. Makes me think about all the practical/ applied knowledge that has been lost to time. At least we had a solid 20 years of this "style". Truly some masterpieces were created that people in the far future will appreciate.

The new reports from the owners of Fromsoftware suggest that cross media entertainment based on Elden Ring is possible because of its popularity.
Makes sense, if Cyber Punk 2077 with it's fraught release can get an anime it stands to reason that Elden Ring media could be considered, my assumption would be something set during the Shattering as that would give the most room to tell stories without shedding too much light on the bits FromSoft wants to keep vague.
