My favorite thing is the way the motor and pump cause the back section to vibrate. Probably unintentional, but also pretty realistic and, in my opinion, pretty cool
The grey and black tubing is realy nostalgic to me, since my dad had gifted me a LEGO FORKLIFT, WHAT, THAT IS AWSOME (This is a representation of me back when I got this set from him and I was amazed with the pneumatics in it, it had a little piston with gears on it that moved the prongs up and down and It was totaly great. now my room is full of those LEGO technic builds from back in the day.. I need to organise.. don't want to have to..
The saw has a function, the tree is built with two sections of round bricks, which are held together by 2 yellow axles, if you position the tree correctly in the grabber, the tree breaks into those two sections.
You have to position the tree so that the breakable part is right by the saw. Then turn it 90 degrees so the saw is towards the cab. Then snap the grabber back to its upright position and the saw will break the tree in half
Try lifting the trunk high enough up in the air and then use the folding function in the front of the arm, if done right the blade should move forward fastly and cut the trunk in half
This machine is a 'feller buncher' type of harvester, its head and arm is mostly correct and not comparable to the operation of the harvesters shown in the clips which have much greater dexterity.
I guess what you mean is the stick-slipp-effect? Actually, I dont think that this would ever change untill they fit a throttle in the outlet of the valves.
Don't exactly like the grabber, as you saw with the real life counterparts, the wheels are parallel to the tree it's grabbing. I also think they could've done something other than the saw.
I'm having issues with the grabber not having enough air pressure (It has to build up before it actually starts moving), this is my first time building with pneumatic elements so I'm having a hard time diagnosing the issue. Things I've done so far: Checked all tube connections- Tried it with different valve combos- Post this comment-
Deforestation is fine as long as it’s controlled, or can you imagine your life without any paper or wooden product? But war falls in another case. Stop thinking ideally. It does no good to you.
Ok that tipping over with the top heavy front is like saying double decker busses are a pain because they're top heavy. It's got all the stuff on that arm. Bit harsh?
I'm not sure is what i'm about to propose will be realistic. but instead of that saw-grabber-thang, they replace it with a proper claw perhaps? Also it would be interesting if they gave it treads to make it a half track like some of them in the images.
hey sariel, what LEGO set would you recommend as my first set w/ pneumatics? any answer would be very much appreciated. EDIT: also does the new switch switch more easily than the old one?
Hi, awesome review! I keep seeing "HOG steering" got the concept, but not the meaning. Until now! I'm just now returning to Lego, got and completed RTC 42082. Thinking of getting this set, just for the pneumatics. Kids may like it too, but I want my own pump and compressor (not sure how to justify 2 sets). Any idea how long this may stay in current lineup?
Looks a bit like an overkill to squeeze a pneumatic system and a motor into this size of a set. Like the 42053 Volvo excavator upgraded with the PF set. (And the prize just a bit lower than the 42053 + 8293) Anyway, waay the most interesting steering in the Lego Technic history
This should have been the 4000 pcs set. Imagine a bulky version of this, with a fully operable cutter arm with a mechanism to make the tree slide and to "cut" it on certain predefined points. Certainly better than a boring crane.
I resent that! The crane is FAR from boring! Its load capacity is crazy for its size, and its a very well built and durable model. I have both sets so I can say without a doubt that the RTC is a superior model.
The steering system is wrong and it will not work in real life. The turntable must not be linked to the steered wheeles. The same error is done in 8443 (pneumatic log loader - I have it so I know ;) ).
Sariel, should I get this set? I have no pneumatics but I really want some. This set is really cool, my only concerns are the price and stability issues. BTW I read your unofficial Technic builder's guide and I love it. Thank you for contributing so much to the Technic community! Your vehicles are also awesome. The only power functions I have are train stuff and the PF starter kit. :( Another reason that I want this set is because it comes with an L motor which is awesome.
Technically it's sound, but there's this unshakeable feeling of Lego not caring too much for this set. Looks half baked in comparison to other new sets.
what about how many pieces are in blue or red and just make the thing look unfinished and whatnot? i mean, some are in sections that dont need such contrasting colors to be "easy" like the arm for example all white except for conecting pieces and other things, i mean, most lego technic sets suffer because of the same thing but in this one THEY ARE SO OBVIOUS IT RUINS THE LOOK OF THE THING -_-
A flagship set is usually the most expensive one, the one that is the most prominent on advertisements with all the kits, and if the marketers are good, the one everyone wants.
Lego technic is becoming more expensive. This has about the same number of pieces as 42053 which also had pneumatics so does a motor and battery box really necessitate being €50 dearer?
The set has way too many colours, maybe if the green parts would only be the darker green and the white arms black... Also, the box is a ripoff: large but thin and the box is not even that full anyway
This model has just too much colours imo. Srsly, why do you need to implement 2 different greens, a white, a black, dark grey, light grey, red blue AND yellow? I basically like to see they have been releasing a pneumatic model, nevertheless I'm a bit pissed considering the few functions it has. And last but not least, I am very sad that the boom isn't extending. All in all not the best model they released this year.
My favorite thing is the way the motor and pump cause the back section to vibrate. Probably unintentional, but also pretty realistic and, in my opinion, pretty cool
Lego should seriously consider forestry equipment as a potential idea for a flagship next year.... Sariel makes best lego technic reviews.
my favourite 2H18 technic model!!!
You're allowed to ignore me if you want.. thanks
Which set?
@@beanlets I don't remember ever writing this.. lol.. the forklift set is 8843
ALWAYS check tires
3:51 but now that you have a axle hole through the midlle you can add a clutch gear and another gear to connect it to the servo motor...
You dont need clutch gear, cuz servo motor cannot rotate 360 degree
14:19 The small gear might be there just do add friction, otherwise the grabber would just flop around.
The saw has a function, the tree is built with two sections of round bricks, which are held together by 2 yellow axles, if you position the tree correctly in the grabber, the tree breaks into those two sections.
Saruman would love this set
4:57 That's NEARLY an unbreakable structure.
You have to position the tree so that the breakable part is right by the saw. Then turn it 90 degrees so the saw is towards the cab. Then snap the grabber back to its upright position and the saw will break the tree in half
Sounds like a lot of trouble
Try lifting the trunk high enough up in the air and then use the folding function in the front of the arm, if done right the blade should move forward fastly and cut the trunk in half
It was a challenge to watch all three videos in a toll, but I coped with it!
I hope you got 1 million sub
I have a friend who used to have a hamster and he has a lot of lego, his hamster escaped and bit through half of his tires.
Lmaoo
The guy or the hamster?
Oh... okay...
This machine is a 'feller buncher' type of harvester, its head and arm is mostly correct and not comparable to the operation of the harvesters shown in the clips which have much greater dexterity.
HAMSTERS WITH CHAINSAWS!!!
Coming soon to an artery near you
Are the New Pneumatic valves, smoother than the older ones ?
No.
Sariel's, Thank you for this valuable information !
It's not the most ugly though, the Bugatti is.
Woah! The Bugatti is pretty cool!
I guess what you mean is the stick-slipp-effect? Actually, I dont think that this would ever change untill they fit a throttle in the outlet of the valves.

It's pneumatics. When a cylinder is loaded, you always have to build up some air pressure to overcome the load.
We are LEGO and we don't do war machines. Deforestation is so noble, let's make a Forest Machine :)
Deforestation is fine as long as it’s controlled, or can you imagine your life without any paper or wooden product?
But war falls in another case.
Stop thinking ideally. It does no good to you.
A couple of gears on friction pins could slow down the cabs loose rotation, I wonder why they didn't do that?
Yeah
Ok that tipping over with the top heavy front is like saying double decker busses are a pain because they're top heavy. It's got all the stuff on that arm. Bit harsh?

This is the *real* flagship set for 2018
Uhh, no
Yes it is
hey sariel, what LEGO set would you recommend as my first set w/ pneumatics? any answer would be very much appreciated.
EDIT: also does the new switch switch more easily than the old one?
It's called valve and it switches just the same. This is a very good pneumatic starter set.
@@searme thanks for the reply! I actually knew it was called valve, but I stupidly forgot to type valve instead of switch.

2 years, just like any other set.
I just love this set, and as a kid I always wanted a pneumatic set, for me it looks good. The B model looks ugly as hell tough.
The best way to start my day!
Looks like a weird green version of the ponsse scorpionking
We have a pneumatic switch that can be directly powered by an axle... Now we just need a pump that can!
Looks a bit like an overkill to squeeze a pneumatic system and a motor into this size of a set. Like the 42053 Volvo excavator upgraded with the PF set. (And the prize just a bit lower than the 42053 + 8293)

guys! which do you think is better? 42066 VTOL jet or this?
The jet is better.
Wow I didn't expect this set to be that good. Now I like it even more than the Rough Terrain Crane :O
I have bolth, and I still prefer the rough terrain.
Ents,. You made my day. 👍🏻
They better stop or the ents will rise and destroy lego land
Not sure how accurate it is but the channel AustrianLegoFan showed some way of snapping the logs with the grabber.
The steering system is wrong and it will not work in real life. The turntable must not be linked to the steered wheeles.
The same error is done in 8443 (pneumatic log loader - I have it so I know ;) ).
I can see this set triggering a bunch of those types like those Shell sets did.

No.
Ok thx anyway

Thanks, well, it is a very good pneumatics starter set and it comes with a motor.
That's why I think I'm going to get it.:)
Alright! I'm going to get it later today. BTW, I love the hamsters with chainsaws
The Lorax protests to this!
are you going ro do the b model?

Sariel's LEGO® Workshop oh ok im very sorry didnt notice. sorry to waste your time
Is mayonaise an instrument?
BadZed I got a pretty good tune out of it once.
Vulpine Warrior haha
Hi may i ask what lego technic set is your favourite
Also, great review!
Hey guys should I get the trac vc xerion it the extreme adventure set
Xerion
Just built it it’s awesome thanks
Did you get both?
This set uses the L-motor the least of any other set with one, the 42082 utilises it much better. (Even though it should have a XL)
Wann kommen die b Modelle in Speed
An extra cylinder to move the saw could make it "cut".
It wouldn't spin fast though unless you had some crazy gearing up
I just mean add cylinder push the saw through the log.
I love pneumatics but 150$ is just way to much for this. For about 270$ you can get the 42043 which has 4x the pieces and way more pneumatic elements
I think greenpeace wont havbe anything against this machine if you plant the same amount of trees that you fell.
Ha
AustrianLEgoFan managed to snap the tree trunk. Check his latest video at 11:35
12:54 song name??

It is a shame the saw does nothing
Unfortunately technic already made a logging truck set 9397
So? That was 6 years ago.
I wish there was a b model😥
Technically it's sound, but there's this unshakeable feeling of Lego not caring too much for this set. Looks half baked in comparison to other new sets.

No, I meant to upload 4 reviews at once but I'm still working on the 4th.
Sariel's LEGO® Workshop Ah ok then, how come you are releasing them as a mass not over time?
Why would I want to keep people waiting?
@@searme This is why I like your channel!
I have this lego too! :)

what is a flagship?
The 42082.
A flagship set is usually the most expensive one, the one that is the most prominent on advertisements with all the kits, and if the marketers are good, the one everyone wants.
oh, so the biggest sets like arocs, 42055 and 42082
Exactly. Last years one was the RC tow truck (shudders)
People WHO dont Like The modell . Greenpeace 😂😂😂🤣🤣
Ents was funnier
Wow... 2H2018 sets are so disapointing D:
Bluesky why
IKR! Not a single kit with suspension. Pathetic!
I feel it kind of the same. I really wanted to buy at least one of 2H18 but now, I don't know.
No suspension but still, L motors in 2 sets and pneumatics in 1. And there is suspension in the 42080, but no shocks. Just pivot.
The Arocs set has all of those AND shocks tho

Yes they do, and yes the foresters look like that.....

Nice set, but recently they are simply not doing any new sets that are just like "wow".
Clearly you don't own the new Rough Terrain Crane.

This set is to small to be motorized
Its a 150$ set...... for people who can't afford 300$ sets this is a VERY good set. Without the motorization it would be absolutely boring.

I hate this lego set
